Soon you could be able to have your own "Disc Wars" in virtural reality, thanks to a new game from the makers of EVE ValkyrieRemember that scene in TRON where Sam Flynn and Rinzler Coliseum start hurling glowing frisbees at each other?

Well soon you might be able to have your own "disc wars" in virtual reality, thanks to a new game currently in development for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

The game, known as "Project Arena", is made by EVE Valkyrie developer CCP Games, and allows players to "throw" virtual disks at one another using either the Oculus Touch or HTC controllers. The aim of the game is to hit the other player with a disc - either by flinging it directly at them or by bouncing it off the virtual walls or ceiling.

The rules are similar to dodgeball. Users can dodge discs by jumping out of the way, or use their own disc as a shield to deflect oncoming attacks.

The game can be played by multiple players at once, and CCP Games hopes that it could eventually become an "eSport", with teams, tournaments and spectators. It's amazing to feel how accurate it is. We're kind of hoping this becomes an eSport," said CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson when showing the game on stage at Fanfest 2016.

The mixed reality footage above aims to give an impression of what it's like to play the game, combining the real-life experience of using the virtual reality equipment with the image of what the players see.
