Anthony Martial scored a last-gasp winner to send United into the final but Van Gaal admitted his future beyond this season is in the hands of the boardLouis van Gaal hinted that his future remains up in the air at Manchester United despite securing a place in the FA Cup final.

The Dutchman was asked afterwards what winning a trophy could do for the development of a young team that included Marcus Rashford , Timothy Fosu-Mensah and match-winner Anthony Martial at Wembley.

But the 64-year-old said he was not willing to discuss the future beyond the end of this season, although he did hint there were talks planned with his board, report the Manchester Evening News.

He said: "I'm not looking beyond this competition. We live in the present. For the future, I discuss that with my board and not with you. When pushed about whether his answer meant he still expected to be in charge at Old Trafford next season, Van Gaal replied: “Yes, but you repeat what I have always said. It is not news, you don't have to write it.”

He also refused to discuss whether winning the FA Cup would constitute a successful season, even if they miss out on a place in next season's Champions League.

He said: “It's not for me to judge, it's for the board of Manchester United.”
