The painfully awkward video was created as a viral attempt to promote new rules forcing drivers to give parked police cars a wide berthEveryone remembers the local bobby's slightly awkward classroom safety talks from their school days - but these Canadian police officers have topped them with their cringeworthy Cop Light Bling music video.

The Nova Scotia mounties chose to promote their road safety campaign with a reworking of Drake's hit song Hot Line Bling - complete with hi-vis background dancers and autotuning.

The painfully awkward video was created as a viral attempt to promote new rules forcing drivers to give parked police cars a wide berth.

But it has attracted more attention for the officers' half-hearted gyrations and unconvincing lip-sync as they plead with motorists: "Please don't speed right past my cruiser".Read more: Awkward anti-texting ad gives motorists very good reason to put their phones away while driving

Even fans of The Office and other deliberately awkward sitcoms may struggle to endure the coppers' parody.Their version of the hit includes catchy lines like: "You just sped right past my cruiser. You just nearly hit my leg. You sped past my cruiser, shoulda changed your lane.

"'Cause you know when these cop lights bling, that can only mean one thing."

The 'move over' law actually came into force in 2010 but it seems drivers just can't get the hint.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke, who appeared in the video, told Canadian broadcasters: "Humour always gets people's attention and we really wanted unorthodox, unique, a memorable way of getting the message out there.

"We're always evolving in how we connect with our communities, and this music video is another unique way of getting our message to citizens."
