Bus blast kills at least eight in Pakistan

STORY: An explosion in a passenger coach on Saturday killed at least eight people in the Matani market, some 30 kilometers from Peshawar, the capital of the country's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

The bomb exploded when the coach was passing through the Matani bazaar, a busy market in the outskirts of Peshawar, police said.

Matani is located at the edge of the tribal town of Darra Adam Khel in the Khyber tribal agency.

Mohammad Shahid, a local police official, told Reuters the bomb was probably planted in the Matani-bound passenger van before it left Peshawar, and exploded when the bus reached Matani market.

He said eight persons were killed on the spot and 15 were injured, including women.

Police said they had arrested the driver and conductor of the bus, who had escaped unhurt, for interrogation.
