Forty years after the release of their "Autobahn" album in 1974, Kraftwerk is back.

The German band will perform a series of eight concerts to present one of their records each night at Berlin's New National Gallery.

The group is known for combining music and art and reached international cult status with their minimalist sound and daring stage choreography.

Fans, many of whom have been following Kraftwerk for decades, were ecstatic about the show.

SOUNDBITE: Annette Weber, fan, saying (German):

"Fantastic! I was in London, I followed them to this one in Berlin, it's really, really good. I think it's a tribute to the city and to Germany and to the big music of Kraftwerk, very good."

SOUNDBITE: Andreas Foelsch, fan, saying (German):

"It was amazing, fantastic and incredible. It was great to see the idols of my youth live on stage. I never would have dreamed about that. I was close to tears when they played 'model.' It was great."
