U.S. House Speaker John Boehner expressed condolences on Wednesday for the victims of the attack in Paris on the office of the Charlie Hebdo magazine.

"This vicious terrorist attack is a reminder that we must always be vigilant against the enemies of freedom," Boehner said prior to his weekly news conference.

In the chamber of the U.S. Senate, a senior Democrat, Dick Durbin of Illinois, decried the attack in French and offered words of solidarity with people of France.

"Let us all work together to bring justice to this horrible situation; this attack on free press in France. But let us also work together to bring an end to terrorism in our time. We can work with our allies and friends in France to achieve that goal, Durbin said.
