STORY: Hundreds of Jewish people gathered at the Western Wall on Sunday to pray for peace, amidst the recent surge of violence in Gaza.

In Jerusalem's old city Rabbi headed a special prayer service asking God to bring peace to the region.

The violence in Gaza continued on Sunday with at least 11 Palestinian civilians, including four children, killed in what Hamas said was an Israeli air strike on a Gaza apartment building. It was the highest death toll in a single incident in five days of fighting.

Israel gave off signs of a possible ground invasion of the Hamas-run enclave as the next stage in its air and sea offensive billed as a bid to stop Palestinian rocket fire into the Jewish state, while also spelling out its conditions for a truce.

Earlier on Sunday, Christians in the West Bank City of Beit Jala gathered for a mass to pray for their citizens in Gaza.
