Turkish protesters burn U.S. flag

A small group of demonstrators gather outside the U.S. Embassy in Turkey's capital Ankara in protest against a film mocking the Prophet Mohammed.

Fury over the film tore across the Middle East after weekly prayers Friday with protesters attacking U.S. embassies and burning American flags.

The violence largely subsided Saturday but the Pentagon has bolstered security at its missions in the region.

The demonstrators set fire to an American flag.

Sunday's protest coincided with a visit to Turkey by General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, who is expected to discuss the crisis in neighboring Syria and Turkey's domestic security with his Turkish counterparts.

Riot police backed by water cannon blocked the road outside the embassy, keeping the protesters away from its walls.
