Dutch prince buried in avalanche, condition critical

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte says Prince Johan Friso's life is still in danger after he was buried in an avalanche in Austria.

Dutch Prince Johan Friso is in critical but stable condition in an Innsbruck hospital's intensive care after an avalanche buried him while he was skiing in the Austrian Alps.

The Austria Press Agency said the 43-year-old prince, middle son of Queen Beatrix, was at the Innsbruck's University clinic.

The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte offered the lastest news.

SOUNDBITE (Dutch) DUTCH PRIME MINISTER, MARK RUTTE, SAYING:

"I've been in contact with the Queen. She is with Princess Mabel at the hospital in Innsbruck. I have told them that all of the Dutch people feel sympathy for them. The situation is that they (the doctors) are saying that the prince is stable, but that his life is still in danger. In the next days further prognoses will follow."

Johan Friso is not an heir to the throne because he married without the government's permission in 2004. He would otherwise have been second in line ahead of his younger brother.
