00:00Cuba and the world celebrate the legacy of historical revolution leader Fidel Castro
00:16on his 99th birth anniversary. President Lula da Silva grants credits to Brazilian
00:25exporters affected by Donald Trump's tariffs. And gas and health authorities confirm more
00:33than 500 minors are currently hospitalized due to hunger and malnutrition amid the ongoing
00:38Israeli aid blockade. Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra
00:46Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:03Cuba and the world celebrate the legacy of the historical revolution leader Fidel Castro
01:07on his 99th birth anniversary. Fidel was born on August 13th 1926 in Iran in the province
01:15of HolguĂn, which today hosts the main commemorative acts in his honor. From there, authorities
01:22from the Cuban Communist Party highlighted the revolutionary leaders' struggle against the
01:26imperialist interests of the United States on the island. Tributes to the revolutionary
01:31strategists are also expected across the world as he became a symbol of global resistance,
01:38whose political and ideological legacy continues to guide Cuba's defense of sovereignty and independence.
01:45Cuban President Miguel DĂaz-Canel paid tribute to the revolution leader at his resting place in
01:56Santiago de Cuba. In this context, through his socials, he conveyed a message to the nations,
02:02stating, from the heart and with clarity of thought, we share the fidelist conviction that there are no
02:09setbacks in fighting, only countless possible victories. The Cuban head of state highlighted that
02:15the greatest tribute to the commander-in-chief on August 13th is knowing how to honor his legacy
02:22by turning it into successive triumphs, into tangible results in these challenging times.
02:28In this context, the photographic exhibition, All the Glory of the World by Alex Castro
02:39Soto del Valle was inaugurated at the José Martà Memorial in Havana. Our correspondent Fabiola Lopez tells us more.
02:45There are 50 photographs that, according to experts, transcend the documentary to become
02:53visual poetry. These are images that move many people. His son, a photographer, captured them in
02:58the privacy of their homes. They show Fidel doing what he loved most at the end of his life, researching,
03:03reading, talking with young people, and sharing his knowledge. Alex wants people to see not only the
03:07work of the leader as a statesman, but also the man who wanted to transform the world.
03:18He never stopped working, never stopped researching, never stopped teaching, and never
03:22stopped enjoying that time with people, sharing his experiences. He did this practically until the
03:27last days of his life.
03:28All the glory of the world shows a Fidel free of artifices, without poses. He converses, reflects,
03:40thinks. The boundaries between the epic and the everyday art race.
03:48This also shows us that very important side of the commander, which connects with all audiences,
03:52which is his humanity. The extraordinary human being that the commander always was,
04:00in that relationship, is that friendship with world leaders and personalities, also with that
04:04connection with the people. And it is that uninhibited Fidel of those moments that Alex,
04:11also managed to capture, as the great artist that he is, and I believe that it is an exhibition that
04:16everyone will enjoy. A bridge between public history and personal experience. Alex's photographs show
04:26Fidel in dialogue with the past, present, and future. Perhaps that is why this six-year-old boy,
04:31also named Fidel, did not want to miss the opening.
04:38My name is Fidel Antonio Guzman Carrillo, and today is my birthday, so I came to see the photo of Fidel
04:44Castro Ruz. And the photo I like the most, is the one of Fidel with a child.
04:57These are images where gestures speak louder than words. Through his lens, Alex shows the leader
05:01and the authentic human being experiencing moments of salinity, introspection, and even fragility.
05:05The best tribute, is to read Fidel, to return to him. He was ahead of everything in every field,
05:17he left us an exceptional legacy. It is up to us to decide whether that legacy will become something
05:21for museums or another mystery that accompanies us. Lezama said that Mart is a mystery that accompanies us.
05:34I could paraphrase Lezama and say that Fidel is another mystery that will always accompany us,
05:38and this exhibition helps to do that. It invites you to reflect, it calls for a moment of spiritual
05:50concentration, of spiritual dialogue with that extraordinary man who continues to be with us.
06:00They say here that each image is a window into Fidel's soul, reminding us that his true strength
06:04lies in what is authentic, human, and uncompromisingly honest, a bridge between myth and man.
06:14And on Wednesday, the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, received a Cuban delegation in Caracas
06:19as part of the celebrations for the 99th anniversary of Fidel Castro's birth. In his speech, Maduro described
06:26the historic leader of the Cuban revolution as a hurricane and a giant who changed the history of
06:31Latin America, the Caribbean, and much of the world. He assured that Fidel lives in our struggles, in our
06:38hearts, and is permanently present in everything we do, and emphasized the importance of his ideas and
06:44leadership in the development of the new Latin American revolutions. Maduro also recalled the relationship
06:51between the Cuban leader and Hugo Chavez, whom Fidel recognized as the best friend Cuba has ever had.
07:02The Venezuelan foreign ministry paid Wednesday a tribute to the commander and historical leader of the
07:07Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on his 99th birthday. The ceremony was held at the foreign
07:13ministry's headquarters in Caracas and was attended by the Venezuelan foreign minister, Ivan Hill,
07:19the executive secretary of ALBA TCP, Rander Peña, the deputy of the Cuban National Assembly, Elian Gonzalez
07:26BrotĂłn, the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Dagoberto Rodriguez Barrera, and the former Cuban ambassador,
07:33Germán Sánchez Otero. The participants in the event highlighted the legacy of the Cuban historical
07:38leader and stressed the need and importance to defend it and preserve it from the future generations.
07:44Meanwhile, in Russia, at the Fidel Castro Square in Moscow, the Cuban ambassador to the country,
07:58Julio Garmentilla, together with workers of the Fidel Castro Fund, presided over a commemorative act in
08:05honor of the leader of the 99th birthday anniversary. During the ceremony, those present remember the
08:12revolutionary leader and his legacy of solidarity and humanism, which remains in time almost a decade
08:18after his physical departure. Furthermore, Fidel's role in strengthening the ties between the peoples of
08:24the Caribbean nation and the former Soviet Union was also highlighted.
08:34In the United States, the anniversary of the Cuban revolutionary leader is being commemorated this
08:39Wednesday in the streets of New York City, where a sign displays several images of Fidel, from his
08:45participation in one of the United Nations sessions to his meeting with the American activist Malcolm X.
08:52The mural, coordinated by the People's Forum Organization, also displayed messages such as
08:58100 Years of Fidel and 100 Years of Fidel and Malcolm X. Community organizations in the country highlighted
09:05the role of commander Fidel Castro as a revolutionary leader, defender of the oppressed, and an example of
09:12dignity, sovereignty and solidarity.

09:27Welcome back to From the South. Uganda's anti-fascist international condemned Wednesday the
09:43latest U.S. aggression against Venezuela after Washington set a $50 million bounty for the
09:49arrest of Venezuela's legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro. In an official statement, the organization
09:55called the Trump administration's decision ridiculous, lawless and devoid of any moral authority.
10:02The document also described the move as another desperate act of political gangsterism aimed at
10:08destroying the Bolivarian revolution. The organization also called on all anti-fascist, anti-imperialist and
10:15progressive forces across Africa and the world to unite in active defense of Venezuela and declare
10:23his unwavering and militant solidarity with President Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuelan people and the Bolivarian
10:29revolution as well. And now, in other information, in Brazil, President Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva
10:37granted loans to Brazilian exporters who were affected by Donald Trump's tariffs. In response to the tariff war
10:44imposed by the United States, the Brazilian head of state signed a provisional measure to facilitate
10:50the delivery of an initial credit line of over $5 billion. This measure aims to offset losses incurred
10:59by Brazilian companies affected by the United States tariffs increase against South Africa. The
11:05President confirmed that the amount of credit aid could be increased if necessary and added that
11:12his government would open new markets to reduce dependence on the United States.
11:31And the fate of former Brazilian President Bolsonaro and seven other allies in their coup
11:35attempt trial begins to be defined defined Wednesday when the deadline for the defense to present final
11:42arguments before the Supreme Court expires. Wednesday's hearing is the last opportunity
11:48for the defense team to challenge the charges before the trial, which has not yet been scheduled,
11:54but it is expected to be held at the federal Supreme Court in September. It is also expected that the
12:01judge reporter of the investigation, Alexander de Moraes, will open the criminal proceedings once he has
12:07received all the defenses. The case is being handled in the so-called crucial core of the indictment
12:14filed by the Attorney General's office and involves crimes such as armed criminal organization, attempt to
12:20violently abolish the rule of law, coup de tab, aggravated damages and damage to historical heritage.
12:26workers of the main paediatric hospital in Argentina began Wednesday a 24-hour strike to demand an
12:39immediate salary increase and against the urgent approval of the paediatric emergency law. The strike
12:45includes a noise-making protest at Olivo's presidential residence and a symbolic embrace of the Senate. The
12:54protesters also called for a mobilization to the headquarters of the social security health care
12:59system to reject the extra co-payments for its affiliates. The protests are part of a struggle to
13:06maintain a good health care system in the country for vulnerable patients affected by budget cuts in the sector.
13:13The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador-Conaia condemned Tuesday the pressure and
13:25intimidation exerted by President Daniel Novo on the nation's constitutional court. In an official statement,
13:31the Conaia described these actions as characteristic of authoritarian regimes and warned that publicly
13:37exposing judges endangers their independence and safety and also violates the constitutionally established
13:45separation of powers. The organization also denounced an offensive to influence the court's decision
13:52on laws related with people's rights and the environment and accused the government and the
13:56legislators of being responsible for the crisis.
13:59Social movements and rural communities took to the streets of Ecuador to demand the end of oil
14:08operations on the border with Peru. The protesters demanded the removal of Texaco's oil furnaces
14:14as they consider they generate greenhouse gas emissions such as methane affecting the health
14:21of nearby communities. In recent days, residents of the area and the organization of Amazonian
14:27Quechua indigenous peoples of the Peru-Ecuador border demanded measures to defend their territory,
14:33while Ecuadorians reiterated that the Amazon is a protected and highly vulnerable area.
14:42Mexican President Claudia Shimon explained that the extradition of drug traffickers to the United
14:47States is part of the state's security policies. During her daily press conference, the Mexican
14:53president said one state that the National Security Council sent 26 members of organized crime to the United States
15:00in accordance with the country's sovereign interest. The head of state emphasized that the decision was
15:06made by the national government and clarified that it had nothing to do with requests made by the
15:12extradited individuals. In recent months, Mexico has extradited 55 members of organized crime as part of its
15:19policies to defend peace and territorial sovereignty. A watermelon judge ruled Tuesday that the death
15:30of 41 young girls locked in a state-run foster home and set on fire in 2017 is a state crime and called for
15:38an investigation into former president Jimmy Morales. The ruling included sentences of 6 to 25 years in
15:45prison for six former officials for the crimes of extrajudicial execution and negligence. The former
