00:00And the world celebrates the legacy of historical revolution leader Fidel Castro on his 99th birth anniversary.
00:19Venezuela announced the beginning of a crusade against disinformation in view of the discrediting campaigns against the country.
00:30And Gaza Health Authorities confirmed more than 500 minors are currently hospitalized due to hunger and malnutrition amid the ongoing Israeli aid blockade.
00:45Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Belen de los Santos. I'm from the Cesar Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll be giving the news.
01:00Cuba and the world celebrate the legacy of the historical revolution leader Fidel Castro on his 99th birth anniversary.
01:13Fidel was born on August 13, 1926 in Viran in the province of Holguín, which day hosts the main commemorative acts in his honor.
01:23From there, the authorities of the Cuban Communist Party highlighted the revolutionary leader's struggle against the imperialist interests of the United States on the island and in favor of its peoples.
01:36Tributes to the revolutionary strategist are also expected and happening across the world as he became a symbol of global resistance,
01:44whose political and ideological legacy continues to guide Cuba's defense of sovereignty and independence.
01:53The photographic exhibition All the Glory of the World by Alex Castro Soto del Valle was inaugurated at the José Mardín Memorial in Havana.
02:08Our correspondent Fabiola López with more.
02:11There are 50 photographs that, according to experts, transcend the documentary to become visual poetry.
02:18These are images that move many people.
02:20His son, a photographer, captured them in the privacy of their homes.
02:24They show Fidel doing what he loved most at the end of his life, researching, reading, talking with young people, and sharing his knowledge.
02:30Alex wants people to see not only the work of the leader as a statesman, but also the man who wanted to transform the world.
02:35He never stopped working, never stopped researching, never stopped teaching, and never stopped enjoying that time with people, sharing his experiences.
02:50He did this practically until the last days of his life.
02:53His experience.
02:55That was practically until the last days of his life.
02:58All the glory of the world shows a Fidel free of artifices, without poses.
03:04He converses, reflects, thinks.
03:06The boundaries between the epic and the everyday are erased.
03:12This also shows us that very important side of the commander, which connects with all audiences, which is his humanity.
03:17The extraordinary human being that the commander always was, in that relationship, is that friendship with world leaders and personalities, also with that connection with the people.
03:33And it is that uninhibited Fidel of those moments that Alex, also managed to capture, as the great artist that he is, and I believe that it is an exhibition that everyone will enjoy.
03:41The bridge between public history and personal experience, Alex's photographs show Fidel in dialogue with the past, present, and future.
03:54Perhaps that is why this six-year-old boy, also named Fidel, did not want to miss the opening.
04:00My name is Fidel Antonio Guzman Carrillo, and today is my birthday, so I came to see the photo of Fidel Castro Ruz.
04:11And the photo I like the most, is the one of Fidel with a child.
04:19These are images where gestures speak louder than words.
04:24Through his lens, Alex shows the leader and the authentic human being experiencing moments of solemnity, introspection, and even fragility.
04:33The best tribute, is to read Fidel, to return to him.
04:39He was a head of everything in every field, he left us an exceptional legacy.
04:43It is up to us to decide whether that legacy will become something for museums or another mystery that accompanies us.
04:48Lezama said that Mart is a mystery that accompanies us.
04:58I could paraphrase Lezama and say that Fidel is another mystery that will always accompany us, and this exhibition helps to do that.
05:04It invites you to reflect, it calls for a moment of spiritual concentration, of spiritual dialogue with that extraordinary man who continues to be with us.
05:19They say here that each image is a window into Fidel's soul, reminding us that his true strength lies in what is authentic, human, and uncompromisingly honest, a bridge between myth and man.
05:33And Venezuela joins the international celebrations on the anniversary of the historic leader of the Cuban revolution.
05:45Through an official statement, the Venezuelan government highlighted the legacy of Comandor-en-Chief Fidel Castro,
05:51stating that he forged a legacy that unites generations in the struggle against domination and for a more just world.
06:00Also adding that the Bolivarian people remembers with special affection the Fidel,
06:05who found in the eternal commander Hugo Chavez a brother in cause,
06:09with whom he made possible the materialization of Latin American and Caribbean solidarity integration.
06:14The statement by the Bolivarian government closes by stressing that Venezuela reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the ideals that Fidel bequeathed.
06:23The defense of sovereignty, self-determination of the people, social justice, and the unity of our America.
06:35Also in this context, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro highlighted the relevance of the Cuban leader's thinking,
06:42sharing a message that states that Fidel is not the past, he is a present that continues to write history with a truly impeccable legacy.
06:51Fidel loved Venezuela and Venezuela loved him too.
06:54He added, we must cultivate the spirit of study, knowledge, and creativity that he left us.
07:01The Venezuelan head of state assured that Fidel lives in every struggle for justice and dignity,
07:05and his trajectory is the compass that guides us towards the construction of the great homeland, Patria Grande.
07:19And Vietnam also honored the legacy of the leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro.
07:24The commemorative event coincides with the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both nations.
07:33During the celebration, it was recalled that the Cuban leader was the first and only dignitary to visit the Asian nation
07:39in the middle of the war against the United States invasion.
07:43The diplomacy of the Asian country ratified its support for the Caribbean island
07:48in the face of the U.S. economic, financial, and commercial blockade
07:53and stressed its firm position in repudiation of its hostile policy.
08:03Meanwhile, in Russia, at the Fidel Castro Square in Moscow,
08:10the Cuban ambassador to the country, Julio Garmendia,
08:14together with workers of the Fidel Castro Fund,
08:17presided over a commemorative act in honor of the leader's 99th birth anniversary.
08:23During the ceremony, those present remember the revolutionary leader and his legacy of solidarity and humanism,
08:30which remains in this time almost a decade after his physical departure.
08:37Furthermore, Fidel's role in strengthening the ties between the peoples of the Caribbean nation
08:42and the former Soviet Union was also highlighted.
08:45And now we have a short break coming up, but first, remember you can join us on TikTok,
08:53at Tell Us of English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
08:58We'll be right back. Stay with us.
08:59Welcome back to From the South. We continue with more information.
09:13The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced the beginning of a crusade against disinformation
09:18in view of the discrediting campaigns against the country undertaken by imperialism.
09:25During the act of strengthening the peace quadrants plan,
09:30the Venezuelan president warned that disinformation seeks to manipulate the public opinion.
09:35In this context, the president defended the country's progress in the area of security,
09:40pointing out that Venezuela has become a regional reference in the fight against drug trafficking.
09:46He also pointed out that the Colombian drug traffickers and extreme right-wing sectors
09:50had the objective of turning Venezuela into a territory of violence
09:54to facilitate the trafficking of substances through national territory.
10:08So, they had a strategy to fill and turn Venezuela into what they turned Haiti.
10:14You see what is happening there.
10:16You see that the criminal gangs armed and financed by the Colombian drug trafficking
10:20and by the United States of America have made ungovernable
10:25and have destroyed our sister Republic of Haiti.
10:28That is how they want Venezuela and that is how they sold it.
10:31That is why what our people have achieved to convert Venezuela in the year 2025
10:43into a territory of peace, coexistence and harmony and advancing every day
10:50is of great immense value.
10:52And Colombian president Gustavo has called for an urgent meeting of Latin American foreign ministers
11:03in order to defend the countries from the U.S. threats.
11:08The half-state requested the meeting in light of the possibility that the United States deploy troops
11:13to Latin America under the pretext of combating criminal groups.
11:17Petro also emphasized, as president of Colombia, that he has been fighting drug trafficking relentlessly
11:24even though he does not agree with the methods implemented by the U.S. government.
11:29Furthermore, the head of state claimed that Washington intended to attack Latin America
11:34using the same strategy employed by the Israeli regime against the Gaza Strip.
11:39And precisely, President Gustavo Petro warned of attempts to undermine relations with Venezuela,
11:51which would hinder the progress achieved in the economic, commercial and even security spheres.
11:57More information with our colleague Hernán Tobar in Bogotá.
11:59The Colombian government rejected the announcement by United States President Donald Trump
12:10that the United States Army would combat drug cartels beyond the territory of the United States.
12:15President Petro was categorical in pointing out that such a strategy affects the sovereignty of the countries in the region
12:20and condemned the United States government's threats against President Maduro,
12:24asserting that any military operation that is not approved by the countries of the region
12:28is an aggression against Latin America and the Caribbean.
12:34The United States has to learn to respect us.
12:45They believe that by delivering clandestine dollars as in Pegasus and other operations
12:49they have bought Colombians and if they have done so the Colombian army belongs to Colombia
12:53and not to the United States.
12:58In this context, Venezuelan President Maduro highlighted the achievements made
13:05through coordinated efforts with Colombian authorities.
13:08These achievements have not only had an impact on the economy, but also on trade.
13:12The fight against drug trafficking, collaboration on border security, among others.
13:17The Colombian legislature welcomes and reaffirms the importance of mutual protection for both peoples.
13:23For example, when it came to economic cooperation, the first to jump in were those in the opposition,
13:28saying that there was a military agreement when it is a public agreement that deals with transportation, trade and energy transition.
13:33But they are going to do everything possible to validate the intervention.
13:39And what is even more shameless for Colombians is that today we have an opposition defending foreign countries that are interventionist.
13:46For some analysts, Trump's strategy is to keep the region under constant tension, through threats against Latin American countries that do not submit to his policy of interference.
13:51In order to maintain control of the region's strategic resources, using the war on drug trafficking, using the war on drug trafficking,
13:58as an excuse.
14:05The United States does not want to end drug trafficking.
14:06The United States does not want to end drug trafficking.
14:07In other words, its anti-drug policy is a policy of control, not a policy to end drug trafficking.
14:12In fact, it is very useful to it because of the resources of the banks, which are more than welcome in these times of such competition.
14:19Popular organizations have also spoken out against this new attack by Washington on the war on drug trafficking.
14:26The United States does not want to end drug trafficking.
14:28The United States does not want to end drug trafficking.
14:29In other words, its anti-drug policy is a policy of control, not a policy to end drug trafficking.
14:33In fact, it is very useful to it because of the resources of the banks, which are more than welcome in these times of such competition.
14:38Popular organizations have also spoken out against this new attack by Washington on the war on drug trafficking.
14:48Today, the peoples of Latin America are no longer the backyard of the US.
14:56The concept of sovereignty, independence, and autonomy of peoples is advancing today,
15:00and from that perspective, we believe it is important to strengthen Bolivarian integration.
15:10Against this backdrop, the visit of the US Under Secretary of State to Colombia,
15:14accompanied by a number of legislators from that country, has been announced.
15:17They have met with congressmen from the right-wing sectors.
15:20The president has called them traitors given their intentions to overthrow him.

15:51Welcome back to From the South.
15:52Welcome back to From the South.
16:13We continue with more information.
16:15In this case, we go to Palestine, as the Israeli regime has starved over 100 Palestinian children to death.
16:22A figure that could rise as Gaza Health authorities confirm more than 500 minors are currently hospitalized due to hunger and malnutrition.
16:31In addition, the director of the Gaza Health Ministry, Munir Albaraj, also reported that more than 28,000 people have suffered from malnutrition since the beginning of the year.
16:44In this context, the director of communications at the U.N. Agency for Palestinian Refugees, Julia Touma, informed that one out of five children in the enclave is malnourished, adding that the famine also affects U.N. personnel working in the enclave.
17:01The Tel Aviv genocidal regime has been using starvation as a form of extermination, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
17:10Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Indonesia prepared to airdrop 800 tons of humanitarian aid over Gaza as it urged Israel to immediately open humanitarian access to the area.
17:31The 12-day humanitarian mission to Gaza is involving 66 personnel and two aircraft launched from Indonesia's capital, Jakarta.
17:41It is slated to stop in Jordan, where it is to proceed into the airspace over Gaza to airdrop the packages by hundreds of parachutes.
17:49The Indonesian Ministry of Defense said that the packages contain ready-to-eat food, medicines and daily supplies.
17:57He said that the mission coincides with the 80th anniversary of Indonesia's independence and the spirit of freedom will be realized by helping the Palestinian people who are struggling to live in peace and freedom.
18:12The authority also urged Israel to immediately open unhindered humanitarian corridors into Gaza.
18:19We stay on topic as a vigil was held in the capital of Mexico to protest the murder of the five journalists from the Al Jazeera network
18:35and an independent reporter during an Israeli attack near the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza on Sunday.
18:41Journalists, activists and citizens gathered near the Angel of Independence to honor the press members with flowers and candles.
18:49During the evening, slogans were chanted and announced the genocide committed by the Zionist regime in Palestine.
18:58As part of the tribute to Anas al-Shalif and his slain co-workers, the organizers of the vigil read a statement demanding that the Israeli government immediately stop the attacks in the enclave and guarantee the safety of press workers.
19:13And Typhoon Peru has reached eastern Taiwan, bringing powerful winds with gusts up to 191 km per hour and heavy rainfall,
19:39especially impacting the counties of Hualien and Typhoon.
19:44The storm's outer bands began sweeping across the region early on Wednesday, prompting urgent evacuations,
19:51with nearly 5,500 residents relocated to emergency shelters to mitigate flooding and landslide risks,
19:59particularly where natural dumps have formed due to previous typhoons.
20:03Schools and government offices across southern and eastern Taiwan were closed for the day,
20:11and a total shutdown affected nine cities and counties, including major southern cities like Kaohsiung and Tainan.
20:19The typhoon is expected to make landfall near Taitung around noon,
20:23and then move northwestward across Taiwan's central mountain range,
20:27weakening as it passes before heading towards the Chinese mainland coast.
20:33The UK is currently enduring its fourth heat wave of the year,
20:45with temperatures soaring up to 33 degrees Celsius,
20:48prompting the government to declare drought conditions in five regions.
20:51This marks the driest six months to July since 1976,
20:57with reservoir levels dropping to 67.7 percent capacity across England.
21:02Farmers are increasingly concerned about the impact on crops as prolonged dry spells have stunted growth,
21:10with some lettuces reported to be half their usual size,
21:14potentially leading to reduced food availability and higher prices in supermarkets this winter.
21:19The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow health alert for vulnerable groups due to the hit.
21:26And like this, we have come to the end of this news,
