00:10Take a deep breath.
00:14Oh, hello friends. You are already here.
00:18Thanks for visiting and waiting until I finished my meditation.
00:23I often meditate to feel better, think clearly
00:27and most importantly, to keep my emotions in check.
00:31Especially, anger.
00:34Yes, my friends, anger is a complex emotion
00:38we all struggle to deal with.
00:41But, have you ever wondered, why do we get angry?
00:45If not, then don't you worry my friends,
00:49because in today's episode, let us explore this turbulent emotion
00:54we call anger and answer the question, why do we get angry?
01:00Zoom in.
01:03So friends, have you ever got so angry
01:06that you felt like screaming or throwing something away
01:09just because things didn't go your way?
01:12Maybe your sibling ate your cake
01:15or your friend lost the book he took from you
01:19or the last season of your favorite series
01:22failed to live up to your expectation.
01:28Well, the fact is, we all get angry.
01:31It is just one of the many emotions we feel daily
01:35like happiness, sadness, fear, etc.
01:39Although you are totally aware of how anger looks like from outside
01:44let me show you what's happening inside your body
01:48while you're fuming over a certain issue.
01:51Imagine you are happily walking on the street
01:56dressed neatly to go to your friend's birthday party
01:59when suddenly a car swiftly cuts you off
02:03and splashes slimy mud on your favorite dress
02:07which ultimately turns you
02:09from a beast loving creature
02:11into an incredible hulk.
02:15As you get angry and go into the smash mode
02:19changes begin to happen in your body
02:22starting with your amygdala
02:24a part of your brain that deals with emotions.
02:27Yes, the amygdala gets activated
02:31and releases a chemical known as
02:33catecholamine
02:35that causes you to react with a burst of energy
02:38and prepares you for some physical activity.
02:41Also, hormones known as epinephrine
02:45aka adrenaline
02:47and norepinephrine
02:49are released into the body
02:51that raises your heart rate and blood pressure
02:53turning you red
02:55and making you ready for some action.
02:59But fortunately
03:01another part of your brain
03:03called prefrontal cortex
03:05responsible for making judgement
03:07also gets activated
03:09thus making sure you don't react illogically
03:12to the situation
03:14and stopping you
03:15from taking aggressive steps towards others.
03:19Also, it's vital to know
03:21that constant chronic anger
03:23can significantly increase your chances
03:25of getting heart diseases
03:27like high blood pressure
03:29heart attack
03:30or even a stroke.
03:33Although it's completely okay
03:35to be mad at times
03:37it's essential that anger
03:39must be released in the right way.
03:41So, make sure
03:43that you don't always react
03:45in the heat of the moment
03:47trying to keep your emotions in check
03:49and adopt a healthy lifestyle
03:51like doing meditation
03:53or exercising.
03:55And it's a good idea
03:57to talk about your anger
03:59with an adult
04:01such as a parent or teacher.
04:03Once you talk about anger
04:05you will realize
04:07that those bad feelings
04:09usually start to go away.
04:11Trivia time!
04:13Did you know
04:15Anger can cause memory lapse?
04:17Yes!
04:19Chemicals associated with anger
04:21can destroy neurons
04:23in the hypo campus
04:25and prevent the growth
04:27of new neurons
04:29resulting in weakening
04:31difficulties of the brain.
04:35Also, the impact of anger
04:37on the heart
04:38may be more severe
04:39for women
04:40than for men.
04:42A study showed
04:43that completing
04:44a stressful task
04:45such as
04:46explaining something
04:47that made an individual
04:49angry
04:50caused a greater reduction
04:52in blood flow
04:53to the hearts
04:54of female participants.
04:57It's question time!
