00:28So, let's talk about how your eyes work.

00:36Well, the human eye works no less than a digital camera.

00:41The fact that you're seeing so many things has a process.

00:45And I'll tell you what actually happens inside your eyes.

00:52This is the cornea.

00:54The cornea is the clear front surface of the eye.

00:58You know, it actually acts like a camera lens.

01:02You could say that this is the window that allows the light to get in.

01:08Next comes the iris, which is a thin circular structure in the eye.

01:16This works like a camera shutter, deciding what should be the amount of light that enters the eye.

01:24It passes the light rays to the back of the eye called the pupil.

01:31Which appears as a black hole at the center of the iris.

01:36It is the opening through which light enters the eye.

01:41Depending on the amount of light, the iris stretches and contracts the pupil.

01:47Just how the aperture of a camera works.

01:51Then comes the lens of the eye, which is just behind the pupil.

01:57Okay, do this experiment.

02:00Close one eye and bring a pencil close to the eye, which is open.

02:07Make sure you can see it clearly.

02:10Now, bring the pencil close to your eye.

02:14Bring it closer, closer.

02:18That's right.

02:19Now, does it become blurry?

02:22Well, this is the job of the lens of your eye.

02:26It focuses and defocuses, depending on how far the object is from your eye.

02:33Now, the light reaches the retina.

02:38This acts as an image sensor of a digital camera.

02:42Well, in simpler words, it converts the light that you take in into electronic signals.

02:50Then, the optic nerve of the eye transmits those electronic signals to the brain.

02:57Which lets you finally see an object.

03:01Well, the retina actually perceives the world as upside down.

03:07And it is the brain that flips the image back for you.

03:12Amazing, isn't it?

03:22An eye is composed of more than 2 million working parts.
