00:00that resilience comes from cooperation cooperation uh around that starts around this table
00:16and this is why the solution of the two states and the recognition of the state of palestine
00:22is as well according to me the only way to build peace unless the israeli
00:29government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in gaza
00:41for the reasons i cited earlier canada intends to recognize the state of palestine
00:45at the 80th session of the united nations general assembly in september 2025.
00:53this intention is predicated on the palestinian authorities commitment to much needed reforms
00:58including commitments by the palestinian authorities president abbas to fundamentally reform its
01:04governance to hold general elections in 2026 in which hamas can play no part and to demilitarize
01:12the palestinian state canada will increase its efforts in supporting strong democratic governance
01:17in palestine and the contributions of its people to a more peaceful and hopeful future i spoke today
01:23with president abbas at length to reaffirm his commitment canada reiterates that hamas must
01:30immediately release all hostages taken in their horrific terrorist attack of october 7th that hamas
01:37must disarm and that a mass must play no role in the future governance of palestine canada will always
01:45steadfastly support israel's existence as an independent state in the middle east living in peace and
01:50peace and security any path to lasting peace for israel also requires a viable and stable palestinian
01:59state and one that recognizes israel's inalienable right to security and peace a belief in a two-state
02:07solution the inalienable rights of of both peoples and the fact that peace and security could only be
02:13achieved through it that prospect that possibility of a two-state solution is being eroded before our
02:20eyes that has been one of the factors um that is uh has brought us to this point to try to reverse
02:26with partners we're not under illusions about the strength of canada but to reverse with partners
02:31uh this cycle so that a two-state solution becomes viable lots more has to happen for it to
02:37the law that came up to our national press center so see
