00:01Learning languages is one of my hobbies.
00:03It's probably one of the things I'm most passionate about.
00:07I chose Portsmouth and chose to study it at university just because
00:11I didn't have the abilities that I have now.
00:13So I wouldn't have been able to learn it on my own.
00:16Hi, I'm Diavion Brown, and I studied applied languages
00:20in Spanish and Mandarin at University of Portsmouth.
00:23The course had everything that I wanted.
00:30It was one of the only places that would let me do Mandarin
00:34with a European language.
00:35There aren't any places that will let you do that.
00:37And then once I got there, the thing that kind of kept me there
00:41was the amount of opportunities you get just in general,
00:44like socially and stuff.
00:45They provide a lot of opportunities for you to be able to socialize
00:50and make friends and that sort of thing.
00:51And outside of that also, there was a lot of placement opportunity
00:56and like I worked for the uni as well,
00:59which led to me getting really good positions and stuff.
01:01So that's probably my favorite thing.
01:04Affordability was important to me just because it reduced stress a lot
01:09with deadlines and all that sort of thing, like typical stress at uni
01:12that you can't really avoid in general.
01:14I didn't want to have to worry about money and paying rent
01:17and being able to afford groceries on top of that.
01:20So it was important to just make the process of being at university
01:24as easy as I could for myself.
