#The Block
Transcript
00:00Previously, 114 kilometres northwest of Melbourne in Dalesford, we pressed play on the 21st season of The Block.
00:11Oh my God.
00:14Holy...
00:15One by one, the team's arrived.
00:17Oh!
00:19Hailing from Victoria was civil engineer Ben and his wife, woodwork teacher and pole dancer Emma.
00:26We've applied for The Block for seven years.
00:28This was our lucky year.
00:30Then South Australian hairdresser Matt and his best mate Barbara Robbie.
00:34We're the hairy boys, except I'm smooth like a dolphin.
00:42And jetting in from the Gold Coast, we had dental practice manager Alicia with her plumber hubby Sonny.
00:49Holy doly.
00:50Gone from watching the show with the kids at home to, yeah, now being here and it's happening.
00:55Like, this is everything that we wished for.
00:57Following them from the West Coast were girlfriends geologist Han and marketing analyst Kan.
01:03Hannah and I actually met a year ago on Hinge, the dating app.
01:07She absolutely blew me away and we have pretty much been inseparable ever since that first date.
01:13They're a good looking couple.
01:15Last but by no means least...
01:17Taz!
01:19Taz!
01:20Oh my God.
01:21...Western Australian police officers and parents Britt and Taz.
01:25Ready for school?
01:27No.
01:28No?
01:29There were the same number of players and the same number of houses.
01:33But the game has changed.
01:35This is what you are going to be building.
01:38Wow.
01:39This is the first new build in block history.
01:42There's no demo and the houses are all identical.
01:47With the exception of roof detail.
01:49Alright, so pitch roof, flat roof.
01:53Pitch roof, flat roof, pitch roof.
01:55The house allocation was decided by float design.
01:58Mm-hmm.
01:59Game on, well.
02:00And the winners were...
02:02Britt and Taz.
02:03Woo!
02:05Straight away I knew what house I wanted.
02:07House three.
02:08Britt and Taz picked centre spot.
02:11House one.
02:12Number one.
02:13Em and Ben got their first choice.
02:16We're going to take number five.
02:17We'll take the other end.
02:18We'll take five.
02:19Robbie and Matt stole the last cable roof.
02:22We'll go house number two.
02:25No, that was the wrong one.
02:28Yeah.
02:29Leaving Han and Cam with a flat roof.
02:32That's so ugly.
02:34And Queenslanders Sonny and Alicia got house four.
02:38Welcome home.
02:39House four.
02:40Then it was on to the bill.
02:42All right.
02:43We're starting bathroom today.
02:44Yep.
02:45We've never built a bathroom before.
02:46We've never done any of these, mate, so...
02:48We're doing bathroom week one.
02:49With a stolen vanity.
02:50This is taken.
02:51That's taken.
02:52So someone else is doing the exact same vanity with colour.
02:54I'm coming for you, Gold Coast.
02:55I'm here, Gold Coast.
02:57Tonight, the new recruits face their biggest challenge yet.
03:00Waterproof Wednesday.
03:01Waterproof Wednesday.
03:02Waterproof Wednesday.
03:03Waterproof Wednesday.
03:04We weren't waterproofing on Wednesday.
03:05No one for making or breaking bathrooms.
03:06We've had a leak.
03:07We were in all sorts of trouble.
03:08Nothing suits the space.
03:09We're basic ****.
03:10Starting to get critical.
03:11What happened?
03:12I'm even clutching my pearls now.
03:13Let's get moving.
03:14We still want to fail.
03:15Ah!
03:16Ah!
03:17Ah!
03:18I had a dream that someday...
03:19I would just fly, fly away.
03:20Is the picture-perfect country town.
03:21Oh!
03:22Oh!
03:23Oh!
03:24Oh!
03:25Oh!
03:26Oh!
03:27Oh!
03:28Oh!
03:29Oh!
03:30Oh!
03:31Oh!
03:32Oh!
03:33Oh!
03:34Oh!
03:35Oh!
03:36Oh!
03:37Oh!
03:38Oh!
03:39Oh!
03:40Oh!
03:41Oh!
03:42Oh!
03:43Oh!
03:46Oh!
03:48Oh!
03:49Oh!
03:50Oh!
03:51Oh!
03:52Oh!
03:53Oh!
03:54What's not so idyllic?
03:58Robby!
03:59Oh!
04:00Oh!
04:01Oh!
04:02Oh!
04:03Oh!
04:04Oh!
04:05Oh!
04:06Oh.
04:07Oh!
04:08Oh!
04:09Oh!
04:10Oh!
04:11Oh!
04:12Oh!
04:13that had caps on, they didn't have caps on.
04:15We've had a leak and now we're worried
04:17about the water seeping into the screed.
04:19If there's too much moisture in the screed,
04:21we won't be able to waterproof tomorrow
04:23because it needs to dry.
04:24But you know what, I made the initiative that morning
04:26to go get some floor core flute
04:28and actually tape down the floor
04:29just because I didn't want to damage the concrete.
04:32The good thing is, you've done such a good job
04:34protecting the screed.
04:35I'm hoping not too much water's gotten under it.
04:39Yeah, it's just, oh, nice.
04:42This core flute stops 95% of the water,
04:46but there's a lot of water,
04:46so it's actually seeped in under the core flute.
04:49You know, that's actually absorbed some of it already.
04:52Yeah, along the air.
04:53It's thirsty, it's porous.
04:55And it's sucking up the water.
04:58It's a warm day, hopefully we can dry it out,
05:00maybe even get a fan, get some air blowing onto it.
05:04Yeah.
05:06One thing after another.
05:06Yeah.
05:07It's our first week on the block
05:09and you want to hit Waterproof Wednesday.
05:11If you don't Waterproof Wednesday,
05:12it just puts too much pressure on the tiler
05:14on Thursday and Friday to finish,
05:17and then the quality won't be there.
05:18Then there's pressure on the trays to fit off,
05:20and then you're not going to paint in time,
05:22so this could be disastrous.
05:26At the cafe,
05:27police officer Taz is still acclimatising
05:31to swabbing his badge for the block.
05:33Can you do me one favour?
05:35Can you say the laws, like what the policemen say
05:37when you arrest someone?
05:39Okay, so you're not obliged to say anything?
05:40Anything you do say, we're recorded by my camera,
05:42maybe uses evidence.
05:43Do you understand?
05:44We're amateur renovators.
05:47Hitting there slowly?
05:48Slowly, slowly.
05:49No stress levels?
05:50All low?
05:50Oh no, stress levels to the roof.
05:51Is there?
05:52We've got to look like you know what you're doing.
05:54We bought our stock standard house
05:56to a stock standard builder,
05:57and then from there we changed rooms,
06:00we tried our DUI...
06:02D...
06:03You were going to say DUI?
06:04No, I wasn't going to say it.
06:05You were...
06:06So, DUI, is that a police term?
06:09Well, yes, driving under the influence.
06:12So, are you good at DUI or DIY?
06:16I'm good at D...
06:17IY.
06:25I need something to be able to...
06:27Yeah, we need seahorses.
06:29So, what are they called?
06:31Seahorses.
06:32What does this say?
06:35I was so close, that's not bad.
06:37They're called speed horses.
06:39And I called it a seahorse.
06:41Wow.
06:45There might come a time where I'm, you know,
06:48calling something the wrong tool
06:50or using the wrong terminology for something.
06:53Like, you know, I was doing the talk, doing the talk,
06:54and then I said, like, I was like, you know,
06:56point, bark and orders.
06:58Boys, we need vanilla boards and we need them now.
07:03They're called vanilla boards.
07:06I think it's gone around the whole site at this point, hasn't it,
07:09so you're calling it vanilla board?
07:13Vanilla boards.
07:17Taz may have more experience negotiating with criminals
07:20than carpenters.
07:21Couple of buckets.
07:24For what?
07:25Who knows?
07:26But he and partner in crime, Brittany,
07:28are catching on quickly, with their main bathroom taking shape.
07:31Oh, my God, look at the skylight.
07:33Oh.
07:34Oh, that is going to be amazing.
07:37Yeah.
07:38Very happy.
07:39This is our secret weapon.
07:41This is our curved shelf that we're going to have in our bathroom.
07:46We've just come off the truck from Truecore to a scope.
07:49Somehow all this is going to make a curved wall in our bathroom.
07:54The curved shower shelf will encapsulate the bath and shower,
07:57tiled floor to ceiling, the fluted glass shower screen
08:01and French-patterned tiles on the floor.
08:04It's all part of their modern, organic, luxury style.
08:07Modern, organic, luxury.
08:09Modern, organic, luxury.
08:10Mole.
08:11I like mole.
08:12Mole?
08:13Why, so you can call me a mole?
08:14Yeah.
08:19Then there are Victorian locals, Emma and Ben.
08:24You're kicking goals?
08:26Oh!
08:28We've renovated seven bathrooms before.
08:31No, I think it's more than that.
08:33Wow, okay.
08:34We've renovated...
08:35No, it's seven.
08:36Seven?
08:37None in a week, though.
08:40With seven bathrooms under their belt,
08:42they know Villa Board when they see it.
08:45It's fair to say this reno is proving to be a piece of cake for them.
08:49Oh, see that?
08:50That's our little niche wall.
08:51For starters, they've got two Truecore steel secret weapons
08:54already installed.
08:56Oh, that's a C.
08:57That's so good.
08:59That's sick.
09:00But as soon as I saw the vanity that I wanted,
09:04that set the theme,
09:05and then I built the rest of the room around that.
09:07Nice.
09:08Emma's curved stone top walnut vanity
09:10will contrast the natural grey stone and green feature tiles.
09:14And they're going with a back-to-wall bath
09:16opposite the shower seat and niche wall.
09:19I'm thinking greens for the bathroom and maybe for the overall vibe of the house.
09:24Because I really want to bring the outside in and a bit of nature, a bit of Daylesford.
09:28A really luxurious, high-end bathroom.
09:30Yeah.
09:31House 2's marketing analyst, Gann, has headed to Beacon for bathroom lights.
09:39So we need lights.
09:40Beautiful.
09:41Next to our double vanity.
09:42Oh, I love these lights.
09:44The brushed brass and this beautiful, like, marble, natural stone look to the globe is perfect.
09:50Yep.
09:51And it really vibes of our bathroom.
09:53It also gives you quite a good level of functional light for your face, for your makeup, your shaving and that type of stuff.
09:59Amazing.
10:00See you next time.
10:01See you later.
10:02Bye.
10:03Can is embracing her role as designated shopper.
10:10Which is great because the on-site role really suits Han.
10:14Can's girlfriend of one year.
10:17My dad had a renovation business.
10:19So I've been on the job site for as long as I can remember.
10:22I remember I was like seven years old.
10:24And he'd be like, go and like rip that bathroom out.
10:27And I'd go and do it and fill the skips.
10:29He's taught me everything.
10:30And yeah, I am my best when I'm on the tools.
10:33We've got the skylight team here.
10:35I'm creating curved arches in the skylight.
10:38We're trying to go for a round curved effect.
10:41It's happening.
10:42It looks mint.
10:45What have I walked into?
10:46There's a bit going on, but not with Han on my team.
10:49And all the team we've got here, I've no doubt will make it by Sunday.
10:52We wanted to set the tone for the rest of the house with this room.
10:56The design of our bathroom is a tranquil sanctuary
11:00with lots of rounded curves that make you feel at ease and peaceful.
11:05The curves will be echoed in the vanity, the mirrors, the shower wall
11:09and even in the form of an arched doorway with concealed hinges.
11:15We wanted to do secret doors in the house.
11:17We were just spitballing ideas and it was like,
11:19alright, let's make a secret arched door.
11:22Don't know how we're going to do it.
11:24If we can do a hidden arched door, that would be sick.
11:27How much of an arch, like similar to what your shaving cabinets are going to apply?
11:30Yeah.
11:31That's the sort of stuff that I'd want to do, like get onto now.
11:33Yeah.
11:34Because I'll have to frame out the arch and stuff here.
11:35Yeah.
11:36Like you're going to have to arch your tiles
11:37because you're tiling up this wall as well.
11:39Which is fine, you've just got to cut radiuses into your tiles, yeah?
11:43Throw on spanners.
11:45If you can see it, dream it, why not do it, right?
11:54What is Tom?
11:55I went to Beacon.
11:56Yep, Brit and I travelled together, my little passenger princess.
11:59Ah.
12:00Do you want me to go back?
12:01No.
12:02No, I'm not.
12:03I can have one as soon as you get home.
12:05Well, it's funny, I offered to drive in the beginning
12:08and then now I think it's sort of a given that I'm just driving.
12:11But anyway, I'm okay with driving.
12:14I just keep thinking like, a little bit of our recent motto was like,
12:18we can do hard things, like this isn't saving a life,
12:21like this is building a house, this is not life or death.
12:24Yeah.
12:25We can do it.
12:26Yeah.
12:27We just say that, we just have to be resilient and just, you know.
12:30Yep, we're resilient, we can do this.
12:31Yeah.
12:32I feel straight off the bat that we'll be close with Taz and Brit.
12:36Mum and Dad, same as us, they've got kids at home.
12:39Going through the same sort of thing, I guess.
12:41Yeah.
12:42Also missing your kids.
12:43Yep.
12:44Yeah, that's something you're automatically having common.
12:51Oh, is that Matt?
12:52Good morning.
12:54I actually didn't have any idea what I wanted to do for lighting.
12:57I'd send you a plan.
12:58Of what?
12:59I had a plan, I had a plan, but I didn't know what I wanted it to look like.
13:06Where are you at?
13:08Still, still working on it.
13:11Oh, really?
13:12I knew what I wanted.
13:13I was like, bang, bang, bang, bang, let's go.
13:14Oh, you were, your, your yesterday's me.
13:16Yeah.
13:17Picking tiles, piece of cake.
13:19Going to Reece, picking my tapware, piece of cake.
13:22But picking lighting, that was hard.
13:24The reason Alicia is having such a hard time picking lights
13:27is because yesterday she selected a huge vanity.
13:31Bricks that have ordered a vanity too big.
13:34Rather than swap it for a smaller one,
13:36because the door was bumping into it,
13:38they decided instead to move the vanity closer to the shower wall.
13:43So due to the oversized vanity and mirror being right up against the shower wall,
13:47there'll be room for strip lights,
13:49but no feature lights on the left-hand side of the mirror.
13:53Judges' perspective, right, when they do come in.
13:56Yes, that's what counts.
13:57They're going to walk in, look at the vanity,
13:59and they're going to be like, where is the feature?
14:01Right?
14:02No, vanity's the feature.
14:03True, true, true, true, true.
14:05I assumed you'd pick out a lovely vanity,
14:07but a lot of the time they are picky about your wall lights.
14:09Yeah, I know.
14:10Right? So, like, these would be beautiful,
14:12but we don't have the room to place them.
14:13Mm-mm.
14:15I'm just worried now it's going to be too basic.
14:20I didn't think lighting would be an issue.
14:21I just thought you'd go in and pick some lights,
14:23but there's a whole lot that goes to it.
14:25It is quite a... situation.
14:30But that's the block, right?
14:31That's... I'm learning.
14:33Oh, literally.
14:34I'm so far out of my depth here.
14:40Ah!
14:41Ah!
14:42Ah!
14:47As far as week one errors go,
14:49Gold Coast farm Alicia has made a big one.
14:52She's refused to change the size of her vanity
14:55to a smaller one,
14:56which means it now sits right up against the wall,
14:59leaving no room for feature lights
15:01on either side of the vanity mirror.
15:03Oh, literally.
15:04I'm so far out of my depth here.
15:12Hello.
15:13Hello.
15:14We're in trouble.
15:15I don't know how everyone hear that.
15:17Well, I can't have any pendants.
15:19Like, it's literally down lights and strip light,
15:22and that is it.
15:23Nothing suits the space.
15:25We're basic .
15:26We have...
15:27I don't think so.
15:28We're lighting our skylight.
15:29No-one else will be doing that.
15:30You know what I mean?
15:31Yeah.
15:32Because you just announced it to the whole of Beacon.
15:33Idiot.
15:34I don't think anyone heard.
15:35There's a way around everything.
15:37Yeah.
15:38You just got to find the solution.
15:39We've got to put something in that dead spot.
15:41I think what you do is you pick a wall sconce
15:44and a pendant that could go in that little spot
15:46because it looks wide up for both,
15:47so it doesn't matter.
15:48And then you can come back here
15:49and have a look at it in the space.
15:51Okay, I feel better.
15:52I'm not cranky any more.
15:53You don't like whatever's in that corner.
15:55We've got to put something in that dead spot.
15:57Yeah?
15:58Yeah.
15:59Never.
16:00So...
16:01Maybe we'll do two of those.
16:02Two of those.
16:03We'll try circular ones as well?
16:04Yeah.
16:05Yesterday, Sunny and I maxed out
16:07phone calls to and from each other.
16:09Let's get home, Brit.
16:11Let's do it.
16:12When I panic, he's who I ring,
16:14so that's quite a bit of panicking.
16:18Next door.
16:20Santa has come early
16:21and he's not wearing red,
16:22he's wearing neon.
16:24Hairdresser best mates,
16:25Robbie and Matt,
16:26getting their heads around
16:27swabbing their hairdryers
16:28for hammer drills.
16:29Is this all for us?
16:31Really?
16:32Look.
16:33It's a vortex,
16:34swivel,
16:35bristle brush
16:36that connects to
16:37something fantastic.
16:39This is our first week.
16:41We have never built a bathroom.
16:43We have never renovated a bathroom.
16:45We're just two hairdressers
16:46and I think people automatically thought
16:48these guys aren't a threat.
16:50That's a single.
16:51We should just start charting everything.
16:52Single like you.
17:00We automatically became the fifth team
17:02in the order of bathroom week.
17:04And I'm...
17:05Straight away, instantly.
17:06I'm okay with that.
17:08Let them think what they're gonna think.
17:10Matt and Robbie's vision for house five
17:12is a contemporary country estate.
17:14Their main bathroom will include
17:17a multi-tone sesame feature tile,
17:19a dark wood vanity,
17:21a stone top and single basin,
17:23and a fluted shower screen
17:25separating the bath and shower zone.
17:27And, you know,
17:28I've got that super power of being gay,
17:30so I know how to style things.
17:32I know how to pick good things.
17:34I've got great taste.
17:36I can style a tile.
17:38Super power of being gay.
17:39It is a super power.
17:41There's not many gays with bad fashion.
17:45Robbie?
17:47We're in trouble.
17:49Dan pulled us aside
17:50and we thought, you know what?
17:51What now?
17:52And he actually gave us
17:54some really positive news.
17:56It's all about the big idea
17:57that you want to do.
17:58Yeah.
17:59Yesterday, Matt and Robbie
18:01had a crazy idea.
18:03When I heard about all the houses
18:04being the same,
18:05call me crazy,
18:06but I want to build a wine cellar
18:07in the ground.
18:08We're talking about
18:10dropping in
18:11a shipping container
18:12into the ground.
18:13I thought it was crazy.
18:15There's three hurdles
18:16that we had to get ticked off.
18:18Yeah.
18:19Today alone,
18:20we've just got two ticked off.
18:21Wow.
18:22The structural engineering of it.
18:23Second, the building surveyor.
18:25He's also said,
18:27yep, it'll be allowed.
18:29So the third one
18:30that we're waiting on
18:31is council for planning.
18:32Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:33Okay.
18:34And I reckon we'll probably
18:35get an answer
18:36within the next few days.
18:37Wow.
18:38Exciting times.
18:39So one more to go.
18:40We need to probably win
18:41about 90 to 100 grand
18:43for us to pull off this gamble.
18:45We can do it though.
18:46And it is a gamble.
18:47Like it is a huge gamble
18:48because if it doesn't work,
18:49excuse my French.
18:50Nos faisons l'amour.
18:51It's 100k.
18:52It's 100k.
18:53Roll the dice.
18:54Look, I'm not a gambling man,
18:56but I think we could
18:58we could do some with this.
19:00If we spend money on the seller
19:02and not win anything,
19:04we're just going to have a mud hole.
19:08That is one hell of a gamble guys.
19:10You know what?
19:11It's a gamble that could win us
19:12the show though.
19:13Thank you Dan.
19:14Cheers mate.
19:15Appreciate it.
19:16Oh!
19:18You couldn't have staged that any better.
19:21What?
19:22She's done like a pirouette.
19:28I think we need one of these in the salon.
19:35This site is a full construction site.
19:38So we have tools down
19:39and then we have to be off at a certain time.
19:41Every night,
19:42the construction site officially closes.
19:45Tonight lockout time is 8pm
19:47and tomorrow being waterproof Wednesday
19:49will be 10pm.
19:50Okay.
19:52It is good to stop
19:54and then leave it for tomorrow
19:56and start fresh.
19:57And I guess it gives everyone
19:58a level playing field.
19:59It does.
20:00Like everyone's got the same hours.
20:01We're done for the day.
20:02Well done boys.
20:03Well done Han.
20:05Looking very good.
20:06Thanks mate.
20:07Cheers.
20:08Thanks so much.
20:09What are they drinking WA?
20:10Oh.
20:11Everything.
20:13Anything that's worth.
20:14Anything that's cost.
20:15Good job today.
20:20Done.
20:21I feel it almost is like a bit like school camp.
20:35Oh that skill.
20:37Well in our caravans.
20:38It's like a little community.
20:39Would you like something to eat?
20:41Yes.
20:42Surprise.
20:43Something delicious.
20:44All fed meals are delicious.
20:46So you're gonna get something good.
20:48Beautiful girl.
20:50We've got pork noodles or chicken veg potatoes.
20:55I'll do chicken veg potatoes please.
20:58What's yours?
20:59I love the fed meals.
21:00They're so good.
21:01We love it here.
21:02I never expected to like every person here
21:05and to have that camaraderie.
21:07Oh.
21:08What do you got here eh?
21:10What's that?
21:11I've got some Bicci, some Monte Carlo from Arnett's for you.
21:13Oh.
21:14For some dessert.
21:15I love a Monte.
21:16Until like six weeks time and you're like
21:18bleh bleh bleh bleh bleh.
21:20Who do you reckon the bleh is going to be?
21:22I don't know.
21:23Let's ask Australia.
21:25Yeah if you had to say.
21:26If I had to say.
21:27No.
21:28Do not bite.
21:29I'm not biting now.
21:30I'm not biting.
21:31The fishing line is out.
21:32I know.
21:33The fishing line is out but do you know what?
21:34I'm on a hand reel at the moment and there's nothing going to be caught here besides a little
21:36guppy.
21:37How are you this morning?
21:47Yeah good.
21:48Good.
21:49Just um, cheat up for another day on the block.
21:54Another 20 hurdles to jump across and then get thrown back across and then probably jump
21:59over them again.
22:00And it's actually waterproof when it's down.
22:02It is waterproof Wednesday today.
22:04Um, which still I think on track for.
22:10Um, it just depends about how long plaster it takes to dry the rest of it today.
22:16So um, but yeah I want to be waterproof in this afternoon sometime.
22:21See it's hard when you only run up cause you've only got one person to look at, that's
22:27me.
22:28Ah, waterproof Wednesday.
22:33For the uninitiated, this is the most crucial deadline in bathroom week.
22:38Because if you don't get at least one coat of waterproof on by the end of Wednesday, there's
22:42a good chance you won't finish charling and everything else by Sunday morning.
22:47I've made the decision to bring my waterproofer in first thing and then get him inducted.
22:52So it's an induction at 7.
22:54I'm thinking we're looking good for waterproof Wednesday but I don't even know what stage
22:58we're actually even at.
22:59We don't have any experience.
23:00But feedback from the builders was we were ideally going to waterproof from lunchtime
23:04Wednesday.
23:05In a perfect world.
23:06Yeah.
23:07With no hold ups and no stitch ups.
23:09Morning.
23:10I had been told you need to be waterproofing at 5pm latest to be on schedule.
23:17And I was like cool, achievable.
23:19We've got some major ticket items today.
23:20Sheet up.
23:21Get started on the waterproofing because it's waterproof Wednesday after all.
23:26Lots going on.
23:28Is anyone waterproofing today?
23:30I think so.
23:31Maybe.
23:32We're hopeful but...
23:33Wishful thinking is what we like to say.
23:35To be on schedule on waterproof Wednesday morning, really need to have insulation ticked off
23:41and plastering well underway.
23:43Which is the case in 5, 4, 3, 2.
23:49I didn't house one.
23:52Go mate.
23:54Getting there.
23:55Getting there.
23:56Season renovators Emma and Ben are nowhere near plastering.
24:00Waterproof Wednesday and we were nowhere near.
24:04No.
24:05I'm working up a sweat.
24:06Look at this.
24:07Insulating?
24:08Insulating sweat.
24:09Oh it's the worst job.
24:10It's so itchy.
24:11So it's mid-morning on waterproof Wednesday and in Emma and Ben's house we haven't done
24:16one inspection.
24:17So getting quite concerned right now because I can't see them even waterproofing at all
24:21today.
24:22We're behind the able aren't we?
24:23I'm getting a little worried as well.
24:24You are getting a little worried?
24:25A little bit.
24:26Yeah.
24:27Starting to get critical.
24:28We've renovated before but I don't think this block experience is like anything that
24:32we've ever experienced.
24:33To think that you have to do all that renovating in 12 weeks.
24:36In 12 weeks and only doing the room per week.
24:39That you're assigned to, yeah.
24:40You've not got all the trades spread out through the house.
24:43Yeah we've seen the show Ben.
24:44Oh there's a lot of work.
24:47Guys I don't know if you know the format of the blog.
24:50There's going to be a lot of work.
24:52We've got our work cut out for us.
24:53I mean we'll push as hard as we can to waterproof.
24:57So for waterproofing Wednesday the cut off for any trades on site is 10pm.
25:02Normally your waterproofers could work a bit later.
25:05We don't have that this year so these guys are in a world of pain right now.
25:09At the opposite end of the block in house five, the problems just keep coming.
25:18I'm looking at that.
25:20That's going to be moisture content in that.
25:23There's a lot in that.
25:24It's too much.
25:25Yep.
25:26There's a little leak yesterday.
25:2799% of the water was picked up by the core fleet we put down on the floor.
25:32But yeah this morning it hasn't dried.
25:34That's why I suggest you get a fan yesterday and just keep it blowing on it.
25:37Yeah well we thought it would be a warm day all day.
25:4130 degrees and plus today this would be pretty warm.
25:45House five still has a big wet patch on their screed.
25:48This is pretty critical.
25:50If the moisture is too high we can't waterproof over that.
25:53And this may take all day to dry out we just don't know.
25:57We had Tyler's waterproofers.
26:00Probably six or seven labourers waiting on very good money per hour burning a hole in our pocket.
26:06So a cappuccino, two dirties with one kick away.
26:10McCafe are loving our builders up there.
26:12Oh aren't they just.
26:13So now we're Wednesday.
26:14Tina's there whipping them all up a you know ice mocha loka latte situation.
26:19If that screed isn't dry Robbie and Matt may not waterproof today which is going to put
26:25them behind the eight ball.
26:26It all comes down to this one wet patch.
26:28On the Dalesford block things are a little bit different.
26:39In that they are exactly the same.
26:42The five floor plans are identical to the millimetre.
26:45Which means that judging every detail is going under the microscope.
26:51Years before you have a point of difference and whereas this with the same floor plans everywhere
26:55it makes that to have that point of difference more of a challenge.
26:59It's what you do with that layout and how you mix it up with your choices.
27:04That's what's going to set you apart from the rest.
27:07On the floor plan marine bathrooms are on the west wing of the house.
27:11The same toilet, bath and shower configuration.
27:15And the position of the shower head means that the showers all need to have a big enough screen
27:20to be compliant.
27:21Because the 1500 millimetre splash zone would otherwise spill out of the wet area into the bathroom.
27:28And in house five, Robbie and Matt are making a feature out of their shower screen.
27:35We're going to have fluted glass coming out from 900.
27:38The boys have gone with a 900 mill wide shower screen so that all the spray from the shower
27:43is contained within the 1500 mill splash zone.
27:46Britt and Taz are also going with a shower screen.
27:51So my idea is that you walk in the door and you'd see a beautiful curved fluted vanity.
27:56And then you'd also see the beautiful curved fluted glass.
28:00But the glass they've ordered is very narrow, meaning the splash zone will not be contained.
28:06Our builder Colby pulls us aside and says we've got a big drama.
28:10What's up? A bit of a meeting?
28:12Yeah.
28:13What's happening?
28:14Issues, issues, issues.
28:15Issues?
28:16Britt and Taz have just figured out that where they've located their shower rows,
28:20the splash zone goes too far into the bathroom.
28:23It's going to be non-compliant.
28:25Solutions for us, I think, is we're going to have to fully enclose this area.
28:32Terrible.
28:35So we had either pretty much two options.
28:38We either enclosed the shower fully or the other option was we could move the shower head across a bit more to meet compliance.
28:46We don't want to enclose the whole bath.
28:48Otherwise we've got to enclose the whole glass.
28:49I've got all the custom glass in that.
28:51And I'm like, that'll look horrible.
28:53I'm glad our builder picked it up because it's a bit of a flaw.
28:56But an enclosed shower in such a small bathroom is going to look very, how you going?
29:01Can we move it?
29:03Yeah.
29:04We're not going to have a non-compliant bathroom, are we?
29:07So it's not going to be the perfect bathroom that we had originally planned
29:11because now the shower head's going to be positioned a fair bit closer into that corner.
29:15You know, as long as you can deliver a compliant bathroom, we've got a chance.
29:20We've got a chance at doing something special.
29:23Next door, Sunny and Alicia have opted to fully enclose their bath and shower.
29:29What's going on, mate?
29:31Door size and shower.
29:32Door size and shower, yeah?
29:33650.
29:34Is that all you got?
29:38Well, that's what we're thinking it would be, yeah.
29:41650's tight.
29:42650 opening?
29:43You can't have a 650 opening.
29:46I'm like, oh.
29:47750 feels ideal.
29:48Yeah.
29:49Righto.
29:50700 if you're tight.
29:51Yeah.
29:52But don't go less than 70.
29:53We're not being tight.
29:55Because I know the judges, they always look at the opening shower size.
29:59Absolutely.
30:00Yeah, righto.
30:01Nah, I just wanted to ask a question.
30:02Is it going to work?
30:03Or are you just avoiding?
30:04I don't know yet.
30:05I'll speak.
30:06I can't give you the answers all the time.
30:08Then Alicia's got pulled at a red rag and she's like, what?
30:12Please don't make it 650.
30:13Well, we'll just speak to Brodie and see what the goes.
30:16He just asked me to find out about 650.
30:18Brodie, what are you thinking is going to be our door size?
30:22650 is all they can get with such short notice.
30:26650's tight.
30:27The last thing you want is to be getting into your shower.
30:30Exactly.
30:31On the block.
30:32There's no hiding from anything.
30:34No.
30:35You've got a camera in your face in the first second.
30:37And don't forget this year, like the judge, because everything's the same, they're going
30:40to be looking at these things.
30:41You've got opinions left, right and centre, don't you?
30:43Yeah.
30:44And then we're going to try and work out what our aim is.
30:46If you move that water point, 500 mil, you don't need anything.
30:50No shower screen.
30:51No shower screen.
30:52Well, it depends what you want to do.
30:54You either want a shower screen.
30:55Mmm.
30:56Okay.
30:57Decisions.
30:58It would be a point of difference no one else has got.
31:01Beg your pardon?
31:02Are we telling the last man to hold?
31:04I would prefer, yes.
31:05I would prefer that.
31:10So now we're planning on getting rid of a shower screen.
31:16I remind Sunny.
31:17Day and night.
31:18Yes, you make decisions on the fly, but these are also decisions that could affect our end
31:30game and our kids' end game and the whole reason we came here.
31:33All right?
31:34That's just so cool.
31:35Hmm?
31:36All right?
31:37Hmm.
31:38All right?
31:39Hmm.
31:40I'm just not used to this, working like this, you know what I mean?
31:46I don't work in the trade, so yeah, it's a bit overwhelming.
31:47I just don't want to fail.
31:48No.
31:49We just do what we can do and then the rest is in someone else's hands, so we do what
31:59we can do.
32:00That's all we do.
32:01The whole reason we're here is for our kids.
32:07Being away from them.
32:10We just want to be able to give our kids everything, so yeah, it means a lot.
32:17We sort of know everyone's got glass.
32:20If we don't, if you want to give us one point of difference, it might be what gives us
32:25ten grand.
32:26It doesn't mean you can afford to pay your wages.
32:29I'm pretty sure we're going to be the only house without glass, so hopefully the judges
32:35will take that into consideration.
32:36I mean, it was supposed to be a wet area, so yeah, hopefully that will be our really big
32:42point of difference.
32:43In house five on the Dalesford block, Robbie and Matt are facing a major waterproofing
32:57Wednesday hurdle.
32:58A patch of concrete which just won't dry.
33:01The fan is working, but it's working slowly, so we just need to speed that process up.
33:06So what we're doing now is actually thinking outside the box.
33:09The plasters have got some accelerators, so we're going to sprinkle that on top.
33:11Hopefully that draws out some of the moisture.
33:14We were in all sorts of trouble.
33:16Should I just get a hairdryer?
33:18Hairdryers aren't going to work, mate.
33:20So we got out our blow dryers.
33:23Well, I'll tell you what.
33:24I didn't think I'd be picking up one of these on the block.
33:36Okay.
33:37That's...
33:38Oh, there's a bit of heat on that.
33:39Yeah.
33:40It was just like being in the salon.
33:45Two hours like that and I reckon we're ready to go.
33:47Plead as.
33:48Enjoy.
33:49Thanks, Dan.
33:52We've got the moisture out.
33:54It's the only thing that works.
33:55Don't underestimate the hairdressers.
33:59Well, that's new.
34:01But I have heard that there's a clear front runner this waterproof Wednesday.
34:06Hi.
34:07How you doing?
34:08Ben.
34:09Ben, Scott.
34:10Nice to meet you.
34:11Ben, how are you?
34:12Hi.
34:13Good.
34:14Well, it's very tidy and clean and efficient in here.
34:15Yeah.
34:16Well, I've just got to vacuum and then hopefully we'll get the tick off to start waterproofing.
34:18The fact that you've finished this is incredible and you're ready for waterproofing any second.
34:23You're killing it.
34:24Good to hear.
34:25Well done.
34:27Never doubted ya.
34:28There you are.
34:29Scotty said that, yeah, like I've done an amazing job.
34:34She's...
34:35She's into it.
34:36It was nice to get a good feedback to be fair.
34:40If a geologist can achieve that, I can't wait to see where the couple of renovated seven bathrooms are at.
34:47Scotty!
34:48Hello!
34:49Welcome!
34:50What's that mean?
34:51What happened?
34:52What's that mean?
34:53What's that mean?
34:54What's that mean?
34:55What's that mean?
34:56Welcome to our lack of plastered bathroom.
34:58We had a few delays.
34:59We've been doing a lot of waiting.
35:01Yeah.
35:02We were worried, but...
35:04Worrying doesn't do much.
35:06Like, you can't...
35:07You're not going to worry your room into existence.
35:09Mmm.
35:10You're not going to love what I'm going to tell you now.
35:11I've barred high pages from the series.
35:14Oh, no more high pages?
35:15You could pull the lever now, you know.
35:16You'd need it.
35:17Because it was going to be too easy.
35:18Everybody else is waterproofing.
35:20Oh, well.
35:21You can make an exception.
35:22High pages, no longer.
35:24Mmm.
35:25So, if we were worried about trades or anything, we can't just jump on high pages and pick from there.
35:30You've got to treat every minute like it's your last on the block.
35:32Yeah.
35:33I should have told you this on day one, but I forgot.
35:35Treat every hour like it's your last.
35:37Yes, thanks Scotty.
35:38Thanks Scotty.
35:39I guess until you're actually doing it, you don't really know what it's going to be like.
35:42Interacting with all your trades and everyone on site as well.
35:46If it's just Ben and I at home doing a reno, it's just Ben and I.
35:49Exactly.
35:50And the added having to do camera stuff on the side.
35:53Yeah.
35:54Yeah, it's a lot.
35:55Yeah.
35:56Not just a reno.
35:59Right, TR.
36:00We have a little bit more sheeting to do.
36:01And you're going to waterproof in about two hours?
36:04An hour?
36:05Fingers crossed.
36:06That's the plan.
36:07You're well on track.
36:08Correct.
36:09First thing.
36:10Five blokes.
36:11And they'll smash it out five blokes.
36:12Yep.
36:13And you know what?
36:14This bathroom is big enough to take five blokes.
36:15Sometimes a little small bathroom.
36:17You'd like that.
36:18The bathroom, mate, is big enough for five blokes.
36:25Maybe not the shower.
36:26Is that what you're thinking?
36:27Stop.
36:29Now I've heard about probably the biggest gamble in block history.
36:34Scotty goes, mate, I've heard this whisper that you're going to have a wine cellar on the block.
36:40It's a big gamble.
36:41Huge.
36:42You start this now.
36:43You've rolled the dice.
36:44You're committed.
36:45Absolutely.
36:46You dug a hole.
36:47That's what we're like.
36:48But you wanted to put it in.
36:49I heard it was a container.
36:50I don't think you should put a container in there.
36:52No.
36:53That wouldn't look good.
36:54It wouldn't work.
36:55Maybe we could sit down and you could give us a few.
36:56The CSR product, AFS.
36:58And it's like a formwork that you dig the hole, build it, and then pour concrete in it,
37:02creates the walls.
37:03And then you pour concrete on the floor, creates the floor, and put a lid on top.
37:07We've got a temp fence.
37:08Wait till you go.
37:09So as soon as we get the okay, we're going to fence up so no one can see it from the cafe
37:12over there.
37:13Because you've got a good view straight into our yard, we're going to keep it very secret.
37:15Very secret.
37:16I like that.
37:17If we get approved as wine cellar, we could win the block, mate.
37:23It's a game changer.
37:26Over the years, the sleeping conditions on the block have been a little uncomfortable.
37:31That is the most rancid thing I have ever seen in my life.
37:34There's dirt everywhere.
37:35There's dust everywhere.
37:36Oh, it's disgusting.
37:37It's not pretty.
37:38There's probably a corpse in there.
37:40Camping on a concrete slab in a wasteland.
37:45It's just going to be rough.
37:48I believe in miracles.
37:50But all that has changed this year.
37:52Wave rock.
37:53You sexy thing.
37:55Sexy thing, yeah.
37:56Contestants been treated to three months of luxury van life.
38:01Complete with custom made mattresses, thanks to snooze.
38:05Someone mentioned that Josh Gibson from Titanium Caravans was out giving demos down at the
38:12Caravan Park.
38:13And I thought, could that be Josh Gibson?
38:15And I was like, well, I'm heading straight there.
38:20Ben, Emma, how are you?
38:21Hey!
38:22What's going on?
38:23Spot on, Ben.
38:24You good?
38:25It is indeed the Hawthorne AFL break in the flesh.
38:28Huge Hawks fan.
38:29Oh, good.
38:30Finally, there's someone with a bit of classic.
38:32I didn't know who he was, but he was lovely.
38:35And very attractive.
38:36I'm actually lucky.
38:37There is a handle to reach this.
38:42I can do that.
38:43Flick it down to bring it out.
38:44He showed us through all the Titanium Caravan features.
38:48Like that.
38:49Oh, yeah.
38:50Switch it over.
38:51Oh, that rolls it.
38:52And then it's just going to roll up.
38:53Yeah, cool.
38:54Oh, how nice that.
38:55Did you hear a word Josh said?
38:58You didn't just grab it and pull it as tight as you can?
39:02No.
39:03No.
39:04I didn't hear anything he said.
39:06Good to meet you.
39:07Appreciate it.
39:09He was fangirling.
39:10That was fangirling pretty hard.
39:11Is that a new flavour?
39:14There's a few different flavours.
39:17What else?
39:19See, I'm starting to feel better already.
39:21Yeah, see, I told you the retail therapy.
39:23It's going to help.
39:24This is what I do at home.
39:25I get upset.
39:26I go shopping.
39:27I got in the car.
39:30I got out of here.
39:37Main Street, Dalesford.
39:38I haven't had a chance to get down here yet.
39:40It's been a massive morning for me.
39:42It's been very emotional.
39:43So, yeah.
39:44Shopping makes me feel better.
39:46I'm looking for all things bathrooms.
39:49These sort of things is what I'm looking for.
39:52Just to, like, dress the bathroom.
39:54Bit of a back scratch.
39:56How good's this?
39:57So much of gin.
39:58Oh, come on.
39:59Dishbrush.
40:00We're not at that stage yet.
40:03Oh.
40:04Who doesn't feel better after you go shopping?
40:07Well, she certainly feels better after you go shopping.
40:08Yep.
40:09Back on site.
40:10It's nearing 5pm.
40:14And House 4's waterproofers aren't in House 4.
40:20So, I've just come home.
40:22I'm not happy.
40:23I've gone from up here.
40:24Again.
40:25I'm back down here.
40:26Right now, we should be waterproofing your bathroom.
40:29Our waterproofers are stuck in induction because they don't have the correct certificate.
40:34They've been here since 1 o'clock.
40:35Yeah, I know.
40:36What time is it?
40:37It's 4.
40:38Quarter past 4.
40:39Yeah.
40:40I'm under waterproof today.
40:41One way or another, I'm getting membrane on that floor.
40:47So, you can't get your waterproofers on at the moment?
41:13No.
41:14Not at the moment.
41:15They haven't got their insurances.
41:17No.
41:18Our waterproofers are stuck in induction.
41:20Induction starts at 1.30.
41:21They're not out yet.
41:22It's 4.30.
41:23Other than me, like, insuring them myself, I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
41:28One way or another, I'm getting membrane on that floor.
41:31Ah, well, I want to ring the boys.
41:34I just spoke to them probably about an hour behind us.
41:37They're probably paying their waterproofers to sit here.
41:39We can help pay that bill.
41:40Can you ring the boys?
41:41I'll ring that.
41:42And ask if this all fails.
41:44Can we...
41:45We need someone to waterproof today.
41:47Surely.
41:48Yeah, well...
41:49We're down to...
41:50Lesh.
41:51Matt!
41:52Can I ask you a favour?
41:53She tried to steal my waterproofer.
41:56Gotta look out for those Gold Coast couple.
41:59Oh, hello.
42:00Can I come in?
42:01Matt comes in with a negotiation.
42:02If you pick up his bill from when he arrived until when we need him, it's a yes.
42:18Yeah.
42:19But...
42:20How long's he been here for?
42:21I don't know.
42:22A couple of hours.
42:23You can pay them for the whole time they've been sitting here waiting for us to get ready.
42:28No.
42:29Um, alright, I need to get some...
42:31No worries.
42:32Matt leaves.
42:33Taz is whispering in his lips.
42:34How's it doing?
42:35It's up to you what you're doing with that.
42:38We just...
42:39Our biggest thing is not holding...
42:40You're not going to hold us up.
42:42Leish and Sonny, they're the best people.
42:45So they...
42:46We said, nah, look, we don't want to take them off your hands if it's going to affect you.
42:49How far off are you though?
42:50Where...
42:51It could be an hour.
42:52They've helped us a lot more than them.
42:53We've helped them.
42:54Because you've got two blokes, so that's what you're saying.
42:56You could get started...
42:57You have to care.
42:58You could get started and they could even cross over.
42:59So I'd rather be using us.
43:00Yeah, right, I gotcha.
43:01Because we're not going to pay ya.
43:02We're not going to pay...
43:03You're not going to pay for our bloke.
43:04You're not paying for two.
43:05Yeah.
43:06Then...
43:07Beep beep.
43:08What is this?
43:09Yep.
43:10If it's...
43:11Hi, mate.
43:12Get in there and start waterproofing.
43:14You, beauty.
43:15Thank you, mate.
43:16Ta-da.
43:17We're on.
43:18Our waterproofers.
43:19Five hours later.
43:22So now we're ready to rock and roll.
43:25Ready to go.
43:26House 4 has waterproofers on site.
43:28We're right now.
43:30With all waterproofers on site and ready to go,
43:33one more hurdle before waterproofing can officially start.
43:37GMAC's inspection.
43:40GMAC is like the head know-it-all of the whole of 9 and 6.
43:46So this is your shower.
43:47Yep.
43:48And that's the rest of the world.
43:50That has to be all taken off and redone.
43:52There's the man above Dan.
43:54He's the one that signs you off.
43:55He's the one that signs you off.
43:56He's the maker or breaker.
43:57That timber that you've exposed can swell.
44:01Did Dan ask you to pull the insulation, to pull it down?
44:04Yes.
44:05Well then that's what you're going to do.
44:07You don't want to piss him off because you're in trouble.
44:10I think you need to forget about winning a room this week
44:13and look more towards doing this properly.
44:16It's unfortunate.
44:19Um, okay.
44:21All right.
44:24We want to be waterproof to that level.
44:26You're painting that though, are you?
44:27There'll be a strip tile, yeah.
44:29That's what we're saying.
44:30If we have something between there, we don't want the waterproof,
44:33so that's if we can waterproof that line.
44:34Hang on.
44:35I'm trying to help you.
44:36What are you having behind your taps?
44:38300 of tile.
44:39Okay, so it'll still be covered?
44:40Yeah.
44:41I believe that's got to come out,
44:42so that we can waterproof into the tub of that.
44:45I don't know why it's not out or anything.
44:48From what I can see, it's okay.
44:49So that's all good.
44:51So I'll just continue taking my photos and doing this,
44:53but you guys can start getting sorted for all the best things you've got to do.
44:58Waterproof Wednesday.
44:59I got passed.
45:00We got there.
45:01Over in house two, Han and Kan have also got G-Max tick of approval.
45:10We passed the sheet inspection, and then it was like, right, it's waterproof.
45:15Crazy, crazy times.
45:18But next door in one, Ben and Emma's walls still need to be installed before they can be inspected.
45:25Jeez, I tell you, it was tight.
45:28With tools down at six, the plasterers were still going until seven, and...
45:33But there's a lot of people in there.
45:35Oh, it was tight.
45:36Eyes on the prize, I think.
45:42We're the storm incoming.
45:46And three houses still awaiting waterproofing approval.
45:50I don't know what state these bathrooms are going to be in come Sunday morning.
45:55Thunder in the distance.
45:59Waterproofing!
46:01We haven't got there yet.
46:06Big storm brewing.
46:08Waterproofers been here all day waiting,
46:10and obviously just puts you so far behind if you don't,
46:13if you don't start waterproofing today.
46:15To get waterproof Wednesday, the pressure was on.
46:17Yep.
46:18And G-Max was about to go home.
46:19Yep.
46:20If he didn't tick off our plaster, we weren't waterproofing on Wednesday.
46:24It's passed tools down on waterproof Wednesday, and the storm may have cleared.
46:36Might as well be walking on the sun.
46:38The force of nature, that is G-Mac, has three more bathrooms to approve for waterproofing before he knocks off for the day.
46:51Might as well be walking on the sun.
46:54Hoping to get the tick of approval, but waiting with bated breath.
47:04It's okay.
47:06Alright, well, I'm going to go have a beer.
47:08Get him a beer.
47:09Get the guy a slump.
47:10We got it.
47:11We passed.
47:12We got it.
47:13You have the day off.
47:14Yeah.
47:15Can I have a spa treatment or something?
47:16Yeah, I might.
47:17We achieved half a waterproof Wednesday.
47:18Yeah.
47:19So it was only the first coat, but it gave us at least a bit more time for the next day to get a head start entirely.
47:30Next on G-Mac's hit list, a Robbie and Mac.
47:31We had waterproofers on site ready to rock and roll.
47:34G-Mac pops around.
47:35Oh, G-Mac.
47:36G Flip.
47:37The proof is right down inside.
47:38Mac, G, G, Daddy.
47:39He terrifies me.
47:41And he doesn't know me.
47:42Oh, they're good.
47:43He's like, I'm not sure.
47:44I don't know what I'm going to do.
47:45You know what we're doing.
47:46I don't know.
47:47I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
47:48I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
47:49I don't know what I'm going to do.
47:50I'm not sure what I'm doing.
47:51I don't know what I'm doing.
47:53I don't know what I'm doing.
47:54I'm not sure what I'm doing.
47:55Mac, G, G, Daddy.
47:58He terrifies me.
48:00Is the contestant hanging back to watch all this?
48:03Yep, I'll be right here.
48:04And here.
48:05I'm so scared of him.
48:07He reminds me a little bit of Professor Snape.
48:11Just a little bit, I know.
48:14It's because he's like, he has his phone with all of his checklists
48:17and he reads it and he goes...
48:19And it's terrifying and he moves really slowly when he's judging your room
48:28because the thing is, if you haven't done something right,
48:31he will eat you alive.
48:35You need to cork the bottom?
48:37Yep.
48:38Is that a McAfee cup?
48:40He is scary.
48:42I'm even clutching my pearls now, he's not even in the room.
48:45There's a strange man hiding behind there.
48:48I'm not sure.
48:49Do we know him?
48:50I'm just sussing it out.
48:54Do you know him?
48:55Yeah, yeah, fortunately he's my partner in this.
48:57Oh, is he?
48:58Yeah.
48:59Well, fortunately.
49:00I wonder where he went.
49:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
49:02So, let's get back to this.
49:03The thing is, if he looks at a wall and it's not perfect,
49:05your wall's coming down.
49:06I thought that was going to be a plaster wall.
49:08Can't put tiles on a plasterboard wall with no screws in it.
49:11G-Dog tells us we have to cut that out immediately.
49:14Cut it out!
49:15Our plasters came in.
49:17Cut out the chip rock.
49:18Put in a little board.
49:20And got approved.
49:21Okay.
49:22Alright.
49:23Cool.
49:24Thanks, Jimo.
49:25We're very relieved that we can start waterproofing on our first week on the block on Waterproof
49:29Wednesday.
49:30Cutler hairdressers waterproofing on a Wednesday.
49:34And there's still one house awaiting sign off.
49:37This is being painted, right?
49:40Graphico.
49:41Graphico.
49:42Same, same?
49:43Yeah, cool.
49:44Yeah.
49:45But not tiled?
49:46Not tiled.
49:47Not tiled.
49:48No.
49:49No.
49:50No.
49:51Cool.
49:52G-Mac's a beautiful man.
49:55He never smiles.
49:57Leave me to the room for a couple of minutes to take photos.
49:59No worries.
50:00You can go and get all your gear ready and your primers ready and your paint brushes.
50:04You waterproofing?
50:05No, not yet.
50:06We don't know yet.
50:07Oh, I hope.
50:08I hope.
50:09I hope.
50:10There was an issue with our plaster.
50:11You haven't got enough screw fixings in this board.
50:13There wasn't enough screws along the bottom rail.
50:16Where's the James Hardy screws that you've got given the green ones?
50:19I don't know where the James Hardy ones are.
50:22They might have run out.
50:23Okay.
50:24I'm going to get you some green screws.
50:25I've got 15 minutes.
50:26Thank you so much to the G-Mac.
50:29G-Mac was about to go home.
50:30We needed to get those screws in.
50:33To get waterproof Wednesday, the pressure was on.
50:39How many more to go?
50:41Done.
50:42Huh?
50:43Done?
50:44Done.
50:45Look at him.
50:46Well done.
50:50That's all I needed.
50:51The screws in.
50:52We're going to make a chippy out of you.
50:55All good to go.
50:58And now I'm going.
50:59I love you, G-Mac.
51:00Can I hug now?
51:01No, we don't hug.
51:02Cheers.
51:04Today was the hardest day that I had on the block.
51:08Oh my God.
51:11Gone are the days of dancing in my budgies in the back of a float.
51:15Let's get moving.
51:16Let's get moving.
51:18It's just the twists and the turns that get you.
51:21You think you're going well one second.
51:23The next three curveballs are thrown at you.
51:25We've just got to be ready for everything.
51:28Tomorrow night.
51:29Right.
51:30What's a barber and a hairdresser doing finishing their waterproofing before everyone else?
51:40Let me just say you have made a cut above the rest.
51:45Are you really proud of yourselves?
51:47Benny, you see all these big blobs everywhere?
51:48Yeah, yeah.
51:49Big blobs up here.
51:50You got knocked back from the waterproofing.
51:51What the hell is that?
51:52It's had a hemorrhage.
51:53Wow.
51:54Negative.
51:55You're not getting past.
51:56We fail.
51:57If that doesn't improve, it's going to have to be redone.
51:58Disaster.
51:59I was bummed that we didn't get the second coat of waterproofing on because I wanted to
52:09start tiling.
52:10So I started doing it.
52:12Hey.
52:13What are you doing?
52:14I just asked you like five minutes ago, you're not allowed to waterproof.
52:19If I give you an instruction, you can't disobey it.
52:21So you've disobeyed my instruction.
52:24So now I've lost trust here.
52:26I've lost trust because you've just gone behind my back.
52:29I don't want to lose your trust.
