00:00so more than than 300 trucks of aid said to have crossed into gaza overnight as the israeli
00:16military also puts in place so-called tactical pauses in fighting from 10 a.m until 8 p.m in
00:23gaza city dear el bala and muasi all that part of measures that also includes airdrops across
00:29the strip and his anger has grown over surging hunger there the un's humanitarian chief tom
00:35fletcher welcoming israel's decision to support a one-week scale-up of aid but he said action needs
00:42to be sustained it needs to be vast and it needs to be fast well let's hear first of all from the
00:48israeli prime minister in this report from charlotte hughes this footage released by the israeli
00:56military shows what the army says are aid trucks for gaza at the karem shalom crossing on sunday
01:02israel announced daily pauses in fighting in parts of the enclave and secure routes for convoys to
01:07distribute desperately needed aid meanwhile jordan and the united arab emirates parachuted in supplies
01:13a day after israel announced it would allow airdrops to resume israel says the moves aim to improve the
01:19humanitarian response in the territory but aid organizations insist that airdrops are not
01:24sufficient to address the needs of palestinians and that the latest trickle of aid may be too
01:29late to save starving children we had today around 80 trucks that managed to get into gaza this should
01:36not be one-off we need to have every day 100 trucks just for food it will not be within you know one
01:45single day that we can actually change the current level of salvation that you have currently in gaza
01:51there have been mounting calls for israel to let more aid into the enclave following months of
01:56limited supply to residents last week more than 100 aid organizations warned that mass starvation is
02:02spreading in the enclave benjamin netanyahu has refuted criticism israel is presented as though we are
02:12applying a campaign of starvation in gaza what a bold-faced lie there is no policy of starvation in gaza
02:23and there is no starvation in gaza hamas's exiled gaza chief meanwhile said that entry of aid to the
02:31enclave is crucial to the viability of ceasefire talks there is no point in continuing negotiation
02:38under blockades extermination and starvation of our children women and people in the gaza strip
02:43the u.n and some of israel's allies are among those who have blamed the country for the food
02:50crisis in gaza where dozens have died of malnutrition in recent weeks according to the
02:55territory's health ministry we're going to cross now to ramallah talk to dr hedil kazaz who's
03:01international spokesperson for oxfam international thanks very much for joining us
03:05today yesterday then we saw some airdrops we're now hearing this news of 300 trucks
03:11crossing into gaza we're just seeing from israel in fact saying 120 trucks of aid
03:16has already been distributed um in gaza will that make the difference
03:21uh good morning and thanks for having me um what makes a difference is when my family tells me that they
03:29can act actually safely have access to food uh i just texted my sister and she said we still don't
03:38have this access uh yesterday the prices of the flour dropped because of the promise that there is going
03:46to be some aid coming in and suddenly today it's doubled it's almost 30 dollars per kilo and this is
03:55insane nobody in gaza can afford this nobody who's not working people are in poverty before the war who
04:02are unemployed who are struggling at all different means and they are also under war for 24 months
04:10uh now almost 24 months and it's it's not possible this way um this way of aid the way that it's
04:19engineered is not really helping it's increasing the crisis it's leaving uh basically uh what is called
04:28safe routes actually end up in looting the organizations doesn't have access to uh their stuff
04:36why to enter also only 300 trucks while international aid organizations say that we they have
04:43more than uh 6 000 trucks or a worth of aid waiting uh what's the problem of entering this aid into
04:52gaza what's the problem of allowing everything to come into gaza safely and to be allowed to
04:57to be distributed according to the lists that we worked on for ages that with the partners that we trust we
05:05uh thoroughly examined and tested and did due diligence there for them uh why to have this random
05:13uh way of distributing chaotic the way of distributing aid is it is it not at least
05:19is it not at least the start though i mean if uh it turns into 300 trucks every single day would that help
05:26uh well it's it's it's a start it's but it's a drop in the ocean as we say because what's needed
05:34is not really only basic foods there are so many things that are lacking in the gaza strip food
05:41is one of them but also food in its variety what's entering gaza now is only flour and canned food
05:48while there is a need for all sorts of fresh vegetables fruits meat yogurt other things this is one thing
05:58in terms of food on the other hand there are needs for other things for example there is a need for
06:03cleaning materials there is a need for tablets for purifying water to make it safe to drink
06:11there is needs for shelters because the shelters are mainly melted because of the extreme heat
06:18we see in europe how heat is burning gaza is not so far away gaza in the mediterranean and basically
06:25the tents where people are staying now for 22 months they disappeared they are just torn because of the
06:32heat so the aid is not defined by food uh only and also the starvation even the index of starvation the
06:41level stage five which is now reached in the gaza strip takes 10 different indexes for measuring
06:48starvation one of them is access to food but access to safe water access to clean shelter clean
06:55environment all of these things contribute to the elimination of the starvation there's been a lot of
07:01there's been a lot of criticism uh hasn't there of the airdrops notably from people saying it looks
07:07very spectacular it makes it look like there's something big being done but actually as you say
07:12it is a just a drop in the ocean it is absolutely first of all it's dangerous second it is dropped in
07:21areas that are crowded with people and it happened before that it killed people who are waiting for it
07:27and also it is it is polluting the environment it's extremely dangerous and it's limited items
07:33very expensive for the price of one airdrop you can enter 100 trucks to gaza and it doesn't make sense
07:41to uh have airdrops with selected items that people some of them actually ended in the sea where people
07:48couldn't access them or in areas that are controlled by the israeli occupation and also people couldn't
07:55access them in fact what is needed is first ending the war and we keep saying this don't know no sense
08:03of keeping the war going on right now uh in the war open oil crossing and don't count trucks because it
08:10doesn't make sense to count trucks what is needed is needed and it could be a thousand truck or two
08:16thousand it have to enter and it is already there it's purchased international organizations who
08:22have systems who know how to distribute it who know how to reach out to the needy they are ready to
08:29function and why this is blocked it's only contributing to the crisis and ensures that it's
08:35an engineered political situation it's an engineered starvation uh campaign against uh civilians and
08:42children and women in the gaza strip thank you very much for being with us dr hadil kazaz
08:46international spokesperson for oxfam international thank you very much
08:50international thank you very much
