Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds admits the US has a lot of “leverage” in the revival of ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas as Sir Keir Starmer meets President Donald Trump in Scotland. The two are expected to discuss what can be done to urgently get a ceasefire in place.

00:00We want to see an end to this conflict, and not just a ceasefire, we want a real peace process, a real galvanisation of the two-state solution, which Palestinians need, but Israelis need as well.
00:10The US has a lot of leverage in this, they have the most influence, they've been instrumental in the two ceasefires that we have seen, obviously working with Egypt and Qatar and other countries in the region.
00:21So that is what we want, that is what we're committed to, and we'll work with any partners to deliver this.
00:26We recognise the suffering, the human suffering, is intolerable in Gaza.
00:29Of course any country will operate in what it believes is their own interest, but of course dialogue, the relationships that we have, the Prime Minister has a very important relationship with the President, so given the scale of human suffering, should we use that to try and resolve the situation?
00:41Of course we should.
00:43I'd also say in the last few weeks, I mean, look, we've had Macron, we've had Mertz, we've had Modi, we've now got Trump in the UK.
00:49People do respect the UK on the international scene in particular, and that is important, and it's important we use that for good, for well, for trying to resolve many of these problems.
