00:05kasama si Sir Joey Concepcion, GoNegosio Founder at Private Sector Lead for Jobs. Magandang tanghali po.
00:14Good afternoon.
00:24Well, I was with Secretary Chris Rockets event over the weekend,
00:35and she was telling me that the President really negotiated well for the Philippines.
00:43And what's important really is that we, under the leadership of President Marcos,
00:52it's very important for us to create more jobs for our people, no?
00:56So, mga negosyantes, all our entrepreneurs, our micro, small, and medium enterprises
01:01have to really do much better.
01:06And we see that the, as we support our MSMEs,
01:11which is a bulk of the business community,
01:15if we include them as part of the entire business community,
01:18they comprise a huge portion of that sector.
01:23So, we have to really scale them up.
01:27The America, in the end, of course,
01:31we're, of course, there are a lot of challenges that we face,
01:37but I'm certain that as the private sector continues to support this administration,
01:43especially helping our MSMEs scale up,
01:47then the economy will grow.
01:49Because the economy cannot grow just with big business expanding, no?
01:54It doesn't become an inclusive growth.
01:57So, the focus of GoNegosio and the Department of Trade and Industry
02:01is to really support our MSMEs, no?
02:14Well, yes, it's 19%, no?
02:19But it still is good.
02:21I mean, we do export a lot.
02:25I mean, America, sorry, exports to us wheat.
02:31In fact, our company uses a lot of wheat that comes from the United States.
02:35So, and the quality of the flour that we use for many of the bakeries
02:45are critical in that quality.
02:50So, from my own point of view,
02:54the negotiations, what I would say, pretty okay.
02:59I mean, it could be better,
03:01but I think under these terms, the relationship with U.S. and the Philippines is very important.
03:08Yes, sir.
03:08At doon po sa nabanggit ni Special Assistant to the President for Economic and Investment Affairs,
03:13Secretary Go,
03:44Well, it's good.
03:48In other words, while the U.S. exports wheat to us, which is big,
03:55we still can continue to export our various products to the United States.
04:02We do, many, many small and medium entrepreneurs export a lot of, you know,
04:13homemade, like our vinegar, our condiments, and all of that, no?
04:20It's sold in the Filipino stores, no?
04:22The Oriental stores in America, no?
04:25Alright.
04:26Pero sa inyong perspective,
04:27bilang private sector lead for jobs,
04:36Well, it's very important for President Marcos,
04:43we have to continue to create more opportunities, more jobs for our people.
04:47That's very important the way you see it.
04:49And I'm part of the Private Sector Advisory Council for Jobs.
04:54Kasama ko dyan si Tessie, si Freda Yala, etc.
04:57So we've been working through the last months
05:00in how do we generate more jobs for our people.
05:03And the only way that we can do that is we have to upskill, no?
05:07Many of our micro and small entrepreneurs,
05:10we have to improve their skills in whatever business model they're in.
05:16And this is where our partnership with the Department of State and Industry,
05:23Secretary Roque, who leads that,
05:25and of course GoNegosia, which has been around for the last 20 years,
05:29we really have to scale up our micro and small and medium enterprises
05:33to become one day much bigger
05:35and more innovative in developing new products.
05:41And as we create more jobs, the economy will do much better, no?
05:47And that's the only key to economic growth,
05:49is scaling up our people, upskilling them as well,
05:55and providing them the opportunities that big business has.
06:00So a big business cannot be the solution to our economy growing, no?
06:07The most important here is creating prosperity,
06:12not only for us in big business,
06:13but for all our micro, small, and medium enterprises.
06:36Well, it's very clear, no?
06:39Ever since President Marcos assumed his role
06:42as the chief executive of the Philippines,
06:47we respect that,
06:48and we know the solution to our problem, no?
06:53And today, what is good is that
06:58we can see the economy becoming more inclusive.
07:02And how is that?
07:04Before, it was only big business
07:06who can promote our products, our services,
07:09through social media, through television, and all of that.
07:13But today, we are teaching our micro,
07:17small and medium entrepreneurs,
07:18to use social media because it's free.
07:22We're teaching them how to become influencers
07:24and content creators
07:25because these are very important.
07:28It's like themselves marketing their own product or service.
07:32And that's all done through the Internet.
07:36And whether you do it to Facebook, YouTube,
07:40and many other platforms,
07:42so it's not just having a store
07:45or having products out there,
07:47but being able to market it.
07:49And social media is technically
07:52the best avenue which has created greater democracy
07:56for our MSMEs to know,
08:00to tell the entire Philippines
08:02that I have this product,
08:04it's for sale,
08:04this is my quality, etc., etc.
08:07So this is why many of our grants
08:09that we do all over the Philippines,
08:11together with the Department of Trade
08:13and the different regions of the country,
08:16we bring mentors,
08:17some of them in the 50s and 100s,
08:20of mentors who meet entrepreneurs,
08:23and sit down with them
08:26and talk to them
08:27and they ask questions
08:28on how they can grow their businesses.
08:32And this has been going on
08:33for the last 20 years.
08:35So we intend to support President Marcos
08:39really scale up this economy,
08:41but it has,
08:42and it will be inclusive
08:44because now MSMEs will play a big role here.
08:47All right.
08:49Pero sa kasalukuya economic situation
08:51po ng bansa,
08:52gaano po kahalaga
08:53natutukan ng pamahalaan
08:54ng entrepreneurship,
08:55access to capital,
08:57ease of doing business,
08:58o digitalization?
09:01Well,
09:02an entrepreneur,
09:04in the end,
09:05that's why we call our program
09:063Ms, no?
09:08Key,
09:08what are the 3Ms?
09:10You need a mentor,
09:11you need access to money,
09:12and you need access to market.
09:14That's very important.
09:15So access to mentor,
09:16access to money,
09:17and access to market
09:19is critical.
09:20And this is the program
09:21that we're trying to do.
09:22We actually bring the banks,
09:25the MFIs,
09:26and some of the large banks
09:27in the events that we have.
09:29And that is providing them
09:31access to money.
09:32Now,
09:32access to market,
09:34we are teaching them
09:34on how to get into social media.
09:37And by teaching them,
09:39upskilling them,
09:40and then become content creators
09:42and influencers.
09:43Because if you don't have access
09:44to money,
09:46market,
09:47and a mentor,
09:48you're going to have
09:49a difficult time.
09:51In big business,
09:52of course,
09:52I mean,
09:53many of the CEOs
09:55come from good schools.
09:57Of course,
09:58they have mentors as well.
10:00So,
10:00they are,
10:01they have the skill.
10:02They have the funds
10:03with them,
10:05because they're much bigger.
10:07So,
10:08this is what
10:09we are trying to do,
10:11no?
10:11big businesses
10:12can handle their own.
10:13They can face
10:14all the problems.
10:15But for this economy
10:16to grow
10:17and for us
10:18to create more jobs,
10:20if we don't scale up
10:21our micro
10:22to become small
10:23and small
10:24to become medium
10:25and medium only
10:25to become large,
10:27then we will not
10:27be able to create
10:28more jobs.
10:29So,
10:29job generation
10:30is related
10:31to the growth
10:31of the Philippine economy,
10:33which is
10:34well-participated
10:37by our
10:38micro,
10:38small,
10:39and medium enterprises.
10:40So,
10:40we scale them up,
10:42then our economy
10:43will grow.
10:44Alright.
10:45Panguli na lamang po,
10:46Sir Joey,
10:46para po sa inyo,
10:47paano po maaaring
10:48gamitin ang SONA
10:49ng ating Panguno
10:50bilang platforma
10:51para palakasin pa
10:52ang entrepreneurial
10:53mindset
10:54ng ating mga kababayan?
10:55Well,
10:58I'm sure
10:58the president
10:58will share
11:00his vision
11:01on what he sees
11:02in the next year
11:03that we have to do.
11:05We are actually
11:06going to be
11:07hosting the ASEAN
11:08in the year
11:082026.
11:10So,
11:10that,
11:11right now
11:14it's Malaysia,
11:14they will turn over
11:15the ASEAN
11:16hosting to us
11:17in January
11:18next year.
11:19So,
11:19that is going to be
11:20a very big event.
11:21But we want
11:22to do,
11:23and I get the ASEAN
11:24Business Advisory Council
11:26for the private sector,
11:27we want to,
11:29we don't want
11:29our Philippines
11:30to say,
11:31the ASEAN
11:31is just going
11:32to cause traffic,
11:33no.
11:33I believe
11:34hosting the ASEAN
11:34here will bring
11:35a lot of opportunities.
11:37And why
11:38was ASEAN created?
11:40Because it's
11:4110 countries
11:42working together.
11:43Now,
11:44we have our strengths,
11:45our weaknesses,
11:46and we have,
11:47that's why we created
11:48the ASEAN Food Security Alliance,
11:50whereby all 10 countries
11:52have to help
11:52each other
11:54in scaling up
11:55and on the food,
11:59the main commodities
12:02that each country
12:03produces.
12:04So,
12:05I'm very optimistic
12:06that as we strengthen
12:08ASEAN,
12:09we will have scale,
12:10and as you have scale,
12:10then you will be able
12:12to export
12:12to other countries
12:13as well.
12:14So,
12:14I think
12:15this will be
12:17a very important
12:18international event
12:20for the Philippines,
12:21and we really enjoy
12:23that all Filipinos
12:25should participate here,
12:26and the private sector
12:28is going to be
12:29quite active
12:30during this hosting
12:31of ASEAN
12:33in the Philippines.
12:34Alright,
12:34maraming maraming
12:35salamat po
12:36sa impormasyon
12:36at sa inyong ora,
12:37Sir Joey Concepcion,
12:39GoNegosyo,
12:39founder at private sector
12:41lead for jobs.
12:42Magandang tangali po.
