00:08Pirom Anbasert was the first Thai to officiate in a World Cup final round.
00:13Known by the nickname Pau On, he refereed two matches in one of the most memorable World
00:18Cup tournaments, the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, officiating the Norway vs Morocco
00:24and Paraguay vs Nigeria Games in a group stage.
00:28At the time, Pirom was one of the very few Asian referees in the tournament, sharing the
00:33pitch with football stars like JJ Okusha and Fergat Hakem.
00:37Beyond the World Cup, Pirom also officiated in the 1997 FIFA Confederation Cup final, in
00:43which Brazil crushed Australia 6-0.
00:46That Brazil squad featured global icons like Lomario, Lomato Carlos, Khafu, and Ronaldo
00:51A9, who received a yellow card from Pirom for a deliberate handball.
