Despite not having many players competing at the top level of global football, Thailand still
00:05
made its mark on the international stage through ownership of major football clubs.
00:10
The first and most notable example is Leicester City Football Club in the English Premier League
00:14
owned by title retail giant King Power International Group.
00:18
After acquiring the club in 2010, the group famously created a football fairytale
00:23
by leading Leicester to win the Premier League title in 2015 to 2016 season.
00:29
The group also owns another club, O.S. Rufen, which plays in Belgium's top tier league, the Belgian Pro League.
00:35
Through this connection, Thai Stiger Supranath Meun Taa was once brought to the club.
00:40
Also in the UK, Sheffield Wednesday, a championship club has been owned by
00:44
Dejapon Chansley of the Thai Union Group since 2015.
00:48
In the same league, Oxford United was once owned by Samlith Thana Kanjanasud
00:52
before an Indonesian businessman took the majority of the shares in 2022.
