The exhibition READ in Basel, Switzerland, presents new works by Swiss artist Raphael Bottazzini. The exhibition, centered on Raphael Bottazzini’s “Expectation Paintings,” explores the interplay between names, identity, and perception. The exhibition also features Bottazzini’s work Studio Chair.
The thick dots of oil paint on the Studio Chair object are not the result of a spontaneous or uncontrolled gesture, but the expression of a deliberate, painterly action. Their placement follows the care and clarity inherent in traditional oil painting. It is precisely this reduced and deliberate placement that gives the chair a new identity and presence.
