In summer 2025, Kunsthaus Bregenz hosts an exhibition featuring works by Michael Armitage, Maria Lassnig, and Chelenge Van Rampelberg, curated by Armitage. Sparked by a conversation about Lassnig’s profound influence on him and his mentorship under Van Rampelberg, the show explores a dialogue among these artists. Van Rampelberg’s woodcuts and sculptures reflect sensitivity and dignity, depicting human connections with nature and others. Lassnig’s drawings focus on the body as a vessel of inner sensations, situating humans within their environments and relationships. Armitage’s watercolors blend pain, political themes, and tenderness, often using mythical narratives like Mydas to explore human desires and vulnerabilities. United by their empathetic portrayals of humanity, the artists’ works create a rich, multifaceted conversation, presented in collaboration with the Maria Lassnig Foundation and the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute.
