00:00England field an unchanged side which will read Gooch and Robinson opening,
00:07Athie Gatting, Lamb, Embry de Freitas, Downton, Foster, Small and Hemmings.
00:13The news there is that Neil Foster has come through a stern fitness test about his injured knee.
00:20And as for India, they too wanted an unchanged side,
00:24but unfortunately Beng Sarka was ill and had to withdraw.
00:28So they'll read Shrikant Kavaska, Tiddu Azaruddin, Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri, Chandrakhan Pandit,
00:37Prabhaka, Kieran Morey, Chetan Sharma and Maninda Singh.
00:41The umpires, Steve Woodward from New Zealand and Tony Crafter from Australia.
00:47India won the toss, put England into bat.
00:49We join in the third over.
00:51It's the fourth ball and Kapil Dev is bowing to Graham Gooch.
00:54The score, four for no wicket.
00:58Well, that was a very good shout by Kapil Dev.
01:03Gooch should not come a long way forward, but the ball did go quite a bit.
01:07We'll have another look at that, I hope, with Jack Bannister.
01:13There's Gooch well forward.
01:15I'm getting his pad outside the line.
01:19This is Prabhaka voting to Robinson.
01:21Beautifully played.
01:29A slower ball.
01:31Maybe the in-swinger, but a lovely clip off the toes by Robinson.
01:36Four runs to him, so England move on to eight for no wicket.
01:42There's Neil Foster.
01:43Doubts about his fitness, but happily recovered from a knee injury.
01:52A tremendous thing to Graham Gooch.
01:56Straight away, the ball turning quite appreciably, but not bouncing too high.
02:01Well, that was a fairly ominous first ball, and the capacity crowd of 45,000 rose to it.
02:18And Gooch, this time, sweeping that away for four runs.
02:26That's what happens to a spinner sometimes.
02:28He gets a little bit over-ambitious, seems one turn, and looks for a leg stump, and a little bit farther across.
02:34And Gooch very quick on to that.
02:37It's the third boundary of the morning.
02:40Having tried to get his line right, paid the penalty for straying.
02:44And a slower ball there, full toss, and Robinson is in that over-cover.
02:56Four runs.
03:11Well, that's the first wicket for India.
03:13Beautifully bowled by Menander Singh.
03:17Tempting Robinson to come down the wicket.
03:21Stump.
03:29So that's Tim Robinson.
03:31Stumped Karen Murray.
03:32Bowled Menander Singh for 13.
03:35First wicket falling at 40.
03:37And we're in the 13th over.
03:39Yes, Robinson trying to carry on the good work that Graham Gooch had started.
03:48All credit for the bowler there.
03:50Lovely bit of bowling.
03:52Stuck to his guns.
03:53Drew Robinson down.
03:55Knocked to the pitch of it.
03:56Turns and a smart piece of glove work.
03:58Yes, and no better player of spin bowling in this tournament than Bill Assey.
04:05Well, again, Gooch just putting that foot down and off stump.
04:19Pitching across the line.
04:21Wide of mid on and former runs.
04:23That's the 50 coming out for England in the 15th over.
04:48And it's come off 89 balls.
04:52And on this particular wicket, that's quite a good strike, right?
05:01That's a marvellous shot by Gooch.
05:02Swept purely on length.
05:04And a brilliant stop.
05:06Chetan Sharma down at deep backwards square leg.
05:17Nimble, athletic, and brave too.
05:20Diving away on the boundary.
05:21Two runs to Gooch.
05:24Chetan Sharma's the bowler.
05:31Demand again for RBW.
05:33That was a good shout from Chetan Sharma.
05:34Assey signals for gloves.
05:41Let's talk about this one first with Ray Ellingworth.
05:44Yes, if there was no inside edge, it's got to be pretty close.
05:47And I don't think it did.
05:49Probably the umpire just gave me the benefit of getting outside the Austin.
05:52And he was reasonably well forward, which is always an advantage.
05:55When off his plane, he did get a good stride in.
05:57And the umpire probably thought,
05:58well, I've just got to get to give that out.
06:02Chetan Sharma.
06:03And that's out.
06:10Lovely catch.
06:10No doubt that a blow has been struck for India by Chetan Sharma.
06:30Phil Appy is the victim.
06:31Yes, almost a repeat of the previous ball shot.
06:35But this time, the ball just catching the inside edge.
06:38And a very good low catch by Kerem Murray.
06:41So that's the latte now.
06:43Kerem Murray.
06:44Boll Sharma for four.
06:46The tilt on 79.
06:48And we're in the 22nd over.
06:49And in comes Mike Gatting, the England captain.
06:55Graham Gooch has gone to meet him.
06:57Tremendous atmosphere here in this, well, commentary box.
07:02My word, I can see a picture of ourselves commentating.
07:04Wendy Wimbush alongside me.
07:07And Jack Bannister leaping in to do the summaries.
07:10Welcome back.
07:13Shastri now to bowl to Gooch.
07:15Gatting says yes.
07:26And the pressure, even put on fielders as talented as Shrikant.
07:32And the regimented applause is for England's 100 up.
07:38Two wickets down.
07:39Robinson was out for 13.
07:41And Athey for four.
07:42And now Gooch is 60.
07:44And Gatting has eight.
07:47Change in the attack.
07:48Chetan Sharma has been withdrawn from the attack after six overs.
07:54One for 24.
07:55And Azaruddin comes in to bowl.
07:59Oh, that's a lovely shot by Gatting.
08:04He had the wit.
08:06And through the bat at it.
08:08Cracked off the middle.
08:09And that beat the man at deep backward point.
08:13So four runs to Gatting.
08:15The start of the 31st out.
08:23Gooch continuing the sweet shot.
08:26And the deep square man saying to sight the ball going the wrong way.
08:30Four more runs to the Greenwich.
08:31And there, this time, and he's going to be...
08:46No, he's dropped it.
08:57Opening back from there, Shrikant.
08:58Definite chance, the ball going through his hands.
09:02So let's off there for Graeme Gooch.
09:04One of the few times that Gooch has trusted himself to drive on the offside.
09:29One of his few full strokes with the ball spinning and just getting the outside edge.
09:33Now, Graeme Gooch poised.
09:39The crowd poised with him.
09:41Whenever any landmark, be it individual or team, nears, the applause starts with the bowlers run-up.
09:46And that's the 100.
09:51And well-deserved round of applause for Graeme Gooch.
10:02100 made out of 157.
10:04Winning the 38th over.
10:06And that's his fifth limited over 100.
10:08Coming off just 121 balls.
10:10And that glorious, the time stroke again there.
10:25No real power.
10:26Just hang in the back, running it down to third man for four more.
10:28And that's just to remind people that he can play all round the wicket.
10:33And that 100 that Graeme Gooch has now made in the highest score in the World Cup.
10:44He's now scored 425 runs.
10:47And the first time the reverse sweep's been played today.
10:56Mike Gatting, timely to perfection.
10:58Beautifully played and four more runs down to third man.
11:02One remembers him doing that in the 190s in Madras two years ago when he got the double hundred.
11:08Three of them he played.
11:09And there he goes.
11:20And that could well be four more.
11:21Mike Gatting put in the sweep shot and get it fined.
11:25Summer in have proven expensive.
11:26This is his ninth over.
11:39Mike Gatting moving on to 50 now, 59 balls with four boundary hits.
11:51Oh, and this time a full toss and Gatting making room to try and get it squarish.
11:56Got a thick edge and four more runs.
12:00Just really is a bonus over for England.
12:02And then he's got a good one.
12:09Well, a little bit unfortunate there, Mike Gatting.
12:19The ball well outside the off stump.
12:22Going to play the fine sweep shot again.
12:25But just getting a little bit too far across and actually sweeping it onto his leg stump.
12:29That's Mike Gatting now.
12:31Ball by Manandering for 56.
12:33The total is 196 now for three.
12:36And we're in the 41st over.
12:39Well, Gatting had shown his stumps before behind the leg.
12:42Now watch the stumps appear behind the leg and the bottom half of the bat and the captain goes.
12:50But it was a fine innings, very much the supporting innings for Gooch this time.
12:55It's been absolutely brilliant.
12:57But a tremendous tempo set by these and the stage set now for the arrival of Alan Lamb to play with Graham Gooch, hopefully.
13:05And a change of bowling at the starter end now.
13:10Pavarka taking over from Capital Dough.
13:12England 1-9-9.
13:14Pavarka to bowl sell on Lamb.
13:16Lamb down the wicket and lobbing the ball up.
13:19Just past extra cover.
13:22Two runs taken and England moving past the 200 mark.
13:24In the air, it could be a catch.
13:38Well, you can tell from the row that Graham Gooch was caught there.
14:05She cramped the fielder.
14:08So that's Graham Gooch got Shrikant.
14:11Bowling under Singh for 115.
14:14And we're in the 43rd over.
14:15Well, I suppose it had to come in the end because the pitch is turning and Gooch has swept and swept and swept.
14:25And that went straight up in the air.
14:27Deep mid-wicket.
14:28Scarcely had to move.
14:29The fielder was Shrikant.
14:31And he positioned himself perfectly and reversed the hands and just let it come.
14:37John Embry, the new batsman, played some very useful innings within the last ten overs.
14:47Oh, marvellous dive by Lamb.
15:05You will trust Lamb to see the funny side of it.
15:09And poor Chetan Sharma.
15:11I shouldn't say that.
15:12He got a hat-trick in the last match against New Zealand.
15:14But he is labouring with some form of leg strain in this particular match.
15:19He's been off the field once.
15:24It'll be quite interesting to see Lamb come into shot.
15:26The Indian crowd are back with us now.
15:41They sense that Wickets might fall in this last rush for runs.
15:46John Embry played right across the line, but of course he was aiming for a space of mid-wicket, as he's entitled to do in the last few overs.
16:09But these will be crucial overs, too, for India, to decide whether they can peg England back to something like 220 or 230, as opposed to the 250.
16:19But Embry now is LBW.
16:23Bold capital there for six, and England a 2-1-9 for five.
16:26Well, no doubt about this.
16:30John Embry put his leg onto about off the middle, and then trying to pick it up over mid-wicket, and that's very, very straight.
16:38De Freitas is the incoming batsman.
16:47Well, that couldn't be a better place as far as England's concerned.
16:49And it's one of the problems that the captains face, having to keep four men up in the circle.
17:05Well, a straight ball is good enough for a wild slog, and that's De Freitas' game.
17:10Either he hits or he misses.
17:12This time, Kapil Dev hits.
17:19De Freitas' goal, Kapil Dev for seven.
17:23We're in the 48th over, and it's 2-3-1 for six.
17:28And again, De Freitas playing the penalty like Jan Embry, hitting across the line.
17:34Paul Downton is the new batsman.
17:37And this is Kapil Dev.
17:42All beautifully placed.
17:44Oh, what a wonderful shot.
17:45Well, it's a great charm of Alan Lamb that he can produce such a fluent stroke when he knows the balls are running out.
17:56No putting the clock back here.
17:57It's the last ball, and no way England can get away from that.
18:01It's Kapil Dev to Alan Lamb.
18:05Biripi Bowl, well up.
18:07They run one.
18:07Downton turns for two.
18:10And makes it.
18:112-54, the England score.
18:16A very fine effort indeed.
18:182-54 for six.
18:21Really a superb performance.
18:25At least we think it is.
18:27So the England innings, quite a solid start.
18:3040 for the first wicket between Robinson and Booch.
18:34For India, brought on the spinners.
18:36And Meninder is the name which features there.
18:38He bowled exceptionally well.
18:40The ball turning, leaving the bat.
18:42But a sensational partnership of 117, of 117 balls by Gooch and Gatting.
18:49Gatting played well, but Gooch played exceptionally well.
18:53Superb innings.
18:54A great privilege to watch.
18:55And on we went with a little bit of a slog at the ends and fine stroke play from Alan Lamb.
19:0032 not out.
19:01England 2-54 for six.
19:04Of the bowlers, yes, the spinners did well, but no one better than Kapil Dev.
19:082 for 26 of his 10 overs.
19:11And England, of the last 10 overs, took 73 runs.
19:15So now, India need 2.55 to win.
19:19A run rate required of 5.1 per over.
19:23Let's join the Indian innings now then.
19:25The last ball of the first over.
19:27De Freitas is going to Sunil Gavaskar.
19:29And the score, 2 for no wickets.
19:38Four runs.
19:40Beautifully played.
19:42You don't fall there to Sunil Gavaskar.
19:44And so that was an expensive start by De Freitas.
19:52So, one over bowl.
19:53Six for no wickets.
19:55And this well-established opening partnership, Gavaskar and Shriekant,
19:59so familiar with each other's play.
20:03They've opened right through this World Championship, World Cup competition rather.
20:07And now we're watching Gladstone Small to Shriekant.
20:13Oh, well bowled.
20:14Well, if Small settles into his best rhythm,
20:22then this is just his sort of pitch.
20:34That's it.
20:35Bowled him.
20:35Sunil Gavaskar has gone.
20:38And tremendous jubilation,
20:40understandably, by the England team out there.
20:44And that's a shattering blow,
20:46not only to the stumps of Gavaskar,
20:48but the whole morale of the 45,000 Indians
20:52who in Bombay come to worship him
20:55as one of the great gods of cricket.
20:57Of course, so he is.
20:58But this time, bolder Freitas for four.
21:00And in the third over,
21:03seven for one wicket.
21:05Just coming in, brushing the pad,
21:07straightening it out,
21:08and whipping off stump out of the ground.
21:10And not only a shattering blow to the spectators here,
21:13but also to the Indian dressing room,
21:15because that now,
21:16well, it's put England on top.
21:19The incoming batsman is Sidhu,
21:24who has been the surprise and the great success
21:27of this World Cup series for India.
21:30Just 24 years old.
21:32Navjot Sidhu faces the Freitas.
21:41That's a very confident start indeed,
21:43and Sidhu has got the mark.
21:44Oh, dropped him.
21:56Well bowled by the Freitas.
21:57Beautifully bowled, in fact.
21:59And a let-off for Srikanth,
22:01it appeared to be,
22:02by Paul Downton.
22:03A fine second over by the Freitas.
22:09This one's just leaving.
22:12Srikanth, the outside edge.
22:15Just not carrying through to Downton.
22:25A very good appeal for LBW there,
22:27by Gladstone Small.
22:28That nip back,
22:33leg by, signaled.
22:35And it signals an escape for Sidhu.
22:39Well, was it doing too much?
22:41Did he get outside?
22:43Certainly not that.
22:50Six overs, bowled.
22:5418 for one wicket.
22:56This is the Freitas.
22:58To bowl to Sidhu.
23:01That's a good shot.
23:08Well chased by Robinson.
23:13Supported by Gooch.
23:14Got three runs to Sidhu.
23:16A very good off drive.
23:21Small to start.
23:22His fourth over of the game,
23:23with India on 24 for one.
23:26Well, a chance there.
23:31Srikanth just fishing outside the off stump
23:33and edging through,
23:35and Downton,
23:36a reasonable chance there.
23:38Nice height,
23:39but the ball coming out.
23:42Yes, the second edge
23:44that's gone to Paul Downton.
23:45The first one didn't carry,
23:47but that one did.
23:48And really,
23:49for keeping a one-day match,
23:52it was a perfectly reasonable chance.
23:54And again,
24:02a fine delivery by De Freitas.
24:04Just leaving Shikant
24:05and bouncing a little bit,
24:07which is unusual on this wicket.
24:09But Shikant's not good enough
24:11to get a touch there.
24:12Certainly India not getting off
24:14to some of the flying starts
24:15that they've had in the previous rounds
24:17of this World Cup competition.
24:20That's due milling to some good bowling
24:21and also to a much slower wicket.
24:23But that's just where Shikant likes them.
24:36A little bit of room.
24:38It's certainly a very fine player
24:39just behind Square on the offside
24:40and executed this absolutely perfectly.
24:43And Glaston Small just throwing away
24:55a bit of England's good start.
24:57Two balls on the trot,
24:58one short and one full length,
25:00but both with a lot of wicks.
25:02I know Mickey Stewart's been talking
25:03to the bowler.
25:04He wants them to bowl just short of a length.
25:06Hoffs them.
25:07If you don't give Baxman room,
25:08then there's no way they can walk it about
25:09on this pitch.
25:10First change bowling at the Tartar end.
25:14That's John Embry going to try his off-spinners.
25:18The Tretas being rested.
25:20India then 47 for one.
25:23Shikant on 24.
25:25Sidhu on 13.
25:27And Shikant there.
25:28Cutting in.
25:29Embry away to the boundary.
25:3250 coming up there.
25:32Now 82 balls.
25:36Shikant now moving on to 30.
25:38Sidhu on 17.
25:41Again, they're going for the quick single.
25:43Emmings the field there,
25:44but good running again between the wickets.
25:47And the 50 partnership going between these two
25:49of the 77 balls.
25:53This is Foster to Shikant.
25:58Gold in.
25:59And now I have to say that for that moment,
26:06India did not bat well because that was not a shot that Shikant needed to play.
26:11He had become a great threat to England,
26:13but now he goes.
26:14Bold Foster for 31 in the 16th over.
26:18Yes, it's a bad shot, this.
26:20Head going up.
26:20You can see the head go straight up there.
26:23Trying to hit the ball away over a long arm mid-wicket somewhere.
26:26And absolutely no need to do that at the moment.
26:27He knows that now himself.
26:29Very annoyed with himself.
26:30He played so well.
26:32Given India a great start.
26:33But now he's put England right back in the game at 58 for two.
26:38Mohamed Azaruddin is the new batsman.
26:40Oh.
26:41That was a very good ball by Foster.
26:52Well up.
26:54But a little bit of nick.
26:58Off the bat.
27:00So Azaruddin is off the mark with an edge.
27:0559 for two.
27:06England just requires some quiet overs, so to speak.
27:13Two or three runs off the over with the saddle core.
27:17Foster to Siddhu, who's 19.
27:27Well, that's a superb bit of footwork by Graham Gooch.
27:31That looked four all the way.
27:33And Neil Foster applauds Gooch.
27:35What a wonderful game he's having.
27:37A brilliant century.
27:40And the look on the face says everything.
27:51Neil Foster's line strays.
27:54Azaruddin milks another four.
27:55And England beginning to look vulnerable here.
28:01Titu is 22 not out, facing Foster.
28:12Oh, what a brilliant catch.
28:14What a magnificent catch by Bill Athie.
28:20Well, you normally look for Athie on the onside at mid-wicket.
28:24But unmistakably, Athie solo to the ground and scooping a superb catch from a positive stroke off the back foot.
28:32So India's third wicket falls now for 73 in the 20th over.
28:37And you can see that a wicket out of nothing, really.
28:41Just a normal length delivery.
28:43It's doing it firmly off the back foot.
28:45Athie diving away to his left and clutching it to his midriff.
28:48But that really was a bonus wicket for England.
28:51Chandran Pandit has been called the reserve keeper.
28:56But in fact, he's an attacking batsman in his own right and a superb fielder.
29:00But he gets his place today because Dilly Bings-Tarker has tummy trouble and was unable to play.
29:09That's a fine shot.
29:11That's four runs.
29:18Well, that was a splendid way to get off the mark.
29:20He's flipped it away from middle and leg.
29:24Eddie Hemmings coming on for his first over of the match, bowling from our end.
29:30Well, it took a chance.
29:48Holt it and middled it.
29:5186 for three.
29:57Oh!
30:00That's the problem of the pitch.
30:04Azradin whipping that one-two mid-wicket.
30:07He actually finished his shot before the ball arrived.
30:09And lucky, really, to put it wide of Athie at wideish mid-arm.
30:20That's in the air.
30:22Dropped it.
30:25Four runs.
30:25An escape there for Azradin and bad luck for Eddie Hemmings.
30:36Not an easy catch against the ball.
30:41Never truly got under it, but there's the applause for the 100 up in 147 balls.
30:46Four more.
30:53Four more.
31:07Good slower ball.
31:08That's straight.
31:09That's out.
31:09Very well bowled by Foster.
31:12A slower ball, which had Pandit playing across it, and a judged LBW.
31:17Greatly disappointing to Pandit, but what relief.
31:21There's no air out there at all.
31:23It's tremendously humid at Bombay, and I always feel that the conditions pay for the home side.
31:28Take a look at that, Jack Bannister.
31:31Yeah, full length, slower ball.
31:32Pitched well up, hitting him straight on the toe.
31:35Going down towards Leg Stump, but umpire Crafter had no doubt at all.
31:40But the danger hasn't passed.
31:42If anything, it's increased.
31:44With this man coming to the wicket, Kapel Dev.
31:48One of the most destructive and selective hitters in international one-day cricket.
31:52One of the few batsmen who can play to all four corners, our front and back foot.
32:01Fortunate again, but to be fair, England had two or three shots like that off the inside edge.
32:07Just missing the stump.
32:09Always like this happening on this wicket, which is slow and on the low side.
32:15Well, England might feel aggrieved at that, and particularly Neil Foster,
32:19that Mike Gaffing had several of these inside edges.
32:22And it's simply because of lack of bounce and the ball coming through very slowly.
32:36We can't do anything about that.
32:39Fost is still a little bit wide, giving aggrieved room.
32:42Slash at it, but a definite edge down to third man for four.
32:47So, defraite as it is to Indian skipper Kapel Dev.
32:52Well, that's one of the points that I know Mickey Stewart's been making to the bowlers.
33:05You've got to get on that off stump and just outside it,
33:07and really England have straight locked down that leg side.
33:10Well, that's a bit quick here.
33:26Oh, and I don't think Asriel was anywhere near there.
33:30Graham Gooch having a free shot at the wicket, but just missing.
33:32Oh, no wonder Kapel's having a conference there,
33:43because Asriel was in which yards out had Graham Gooch hit.
33:49Steading himself took aim from no more than 15 yards.
33:55Well, again to the edge.
34:12Brilliant piece of feeling, though, by John Embry.
34:17Full-length dive.
34:18All right, he's going for a big hit.
34:35Dropping short to six.
34:39Careful, Dev's dropping on his knees.
34:40Well, he really is one of the cleanest strikers of a ball in world cricket.
35:05That's a big hit.
35:06Gatting's under it, and he's caught it.
35:14That's Kapel Dev, caught by Mike Gatting,
35:18of the bowling of Hemmings for 30.
35:21The score, 168 now, with 34 of us gone.
35:28Five wickets down.
35:29Well, one of the great innings there.
35:35Little cameo.
35:3722 balls only, 30 runs, 3-4s.
35:42But all credit, I think, to Eddie Hemmings yet again,
35:45not spearing the ball in when he's being hit,
35:47tossing it up, tempting Kapel for the big one.
35:51He'd move Gatting round,
35:53and there's the answer.
35:54A perfectly judged catch.
35:5610,000 people behind him saying, drop it.
35:58There's the answer.
36:06And that could be four.
36:11Hazardine whipping that away off his toes.
36:1435 overs completed.
36:17And India moving on to 174 for five.
36:22Hazardine then on 49.
36:26John Embry to bowl for him.
36:27And that's 50 for Hazardine.
36:35And that 50 was made off 60 balls with five boundary hits.
36:39I think Mike Gatting's got another problem out there at the moment.
36:41It looks to me that if John Embry might just have either got a bit of cramp
36:44or pulled a muscle in his right side, he's certainly been holding it.
36:58Oh, dear me.
36:59Well, I thought for a minute that had bowled him as he backed away,
37:04and then he flat-batted it straight back at Eddie Emmings.
37:07But Eddie Emmings, unfortunately, couldn't hold on to it.
37:11And that was the wicket that England badly wanted.
37:13Unfortunately, not taken.
37:16And India moving on to 184 for five with Hazardine on 52.
37:22Shastri on six.
37:2438 overs completed.
37:26Oh, that's a fine shot.
37:32John Embry giving Hazard a bit of room there.
37:36Stepping back as it's square on the offside before, Randy.
37:39That's something that John Embry's likely to do.
37:45He's bowling with an injury.
37:50Not bowling quite as freely and just pulling that one down a little bit short.
38:05The 200 comes up.
38:09Ravi Shastri is the man facing.
38:18He's nine not out.
38:19He's been circumspect.
38:23Taking an odd trip down the pitch to see if he fancies one.
38:26Big hit, but not yet.
38:31Now he does.
38:35Four runs.
38:39Nine overs to go.
38:4551 to win.
38:50Oh, that must be out.
38:52And it is.
38:55Absolutely straight.
38:56Hazardine across the line.
38:58And Hemmings bails out England.
39:01Gets the most difficult man out.
39:02He's had him dropped a couple of times.
39:04So Eddie Hemmings thoroughly deserves that cricket.
39:07The score, 204.
39:10The six.
39:11Well, the wrong length to sweep to.
39:13Yorker length on the front foot.
39:16No doubt at all.
39:17Marvellous improvised innings from Hazardine, but sick with himself for the way he got out and at the stage of the match in which he got out.
39:27With seven lovely boundaries.
39:28He's one of the great promising talents in world cricket.
39:35But you're asking for trouble to sweep at that length.
39:38Just hit him on the ankle.
39:39And the run rate now has gone upside ease.
39:426.37 for over.
39:45It's caught in.
39:46Caught and bowled Embry.
39:50Kieran Moray to the flighted Embry delivery.
39:54Lunged into it.
39:55It was caught and bowled with consummate ease by Embry.
39:57And so Kieran Moray goes for nought.
40:03And the seventh cricket now falls for 2.05.
40:08There it is.
40:09Flighted up.
40:10Going for the drive.
40:11Leading edge, in fact.
40:13Looking to play it much wider than that.
40:16Simple stuff for Embry.
40:19Fine catch.
40:27A cracking shot from Shastri.
40:34Four runs.
40:4337 runs.
40:4531 balls.
40:53We've caught him.
40:54Well, that was a very fine bottom edge, I thought.
40:58It looked to me.
40:59We can check on that.
41:01But that was well caught by Downton.
41:04And good straight bowling by Glansman Small.
41:07Indeed.
41:08All but bowled him, really.
41:11Inside edge.
41:12A very faint one.
41:13Not too faint for umpire Tony Crafter.
41:17See how close this goes to the stump after he's nicked it.
41:20Good keeping by Paul Downton there.
41:22Stayed with the ball all the way through.
41:24That's Steve Woodward, the New Zealand umpire.
41:33I think spare a thought to the umpires as well at this stage.
41:37Not just 45,000 here, but the whole of India watching.
41:41It's in the air.
41:47Lamb's caught it.
41:49Beautiful catch by Lamb at deep mid-wicket.
41:52At first I thought he hadn't seen it.
41:54And then he raced in.
41:56And now he demands a standing ovation from the deep mid-wicket crowd.
42:01Chetan Sharma caught Lamb.
42:03Bold Hemmings.
42:04Nought, 219, now for nine.
42:07Well, fitting that the most popular tourist, really, that there's been in years for England
42:11should strike such a vital blow.
42:14Four balls to go for Hemmings to complete.
42:19And what a lovely catch that was by Lamb.
42:22And what a great bowling decision by Gassi.
42:25To leave Hemmings on and not come back with his best bowler, seam bowler anyway, De Freitas.
42:30Well, that's gone high.
42:34Who's calling for it?
42:35Downton.
42:37He's caught it.
42:38And England have won.
42:39And England go to Calcutta to meet Australia in the final.
42:46At the death, it was all left to Ravi Shastri.
42:48He had no confidence in Menendu Singh.
42:51And England have beaten India at Bombay by 35 runs.
42:54So a great blow to strike at the start when Gaviska was bowled by De Freitas for four.
43:02But there were several dashing innings full of exciting strokes by most of the Indian players
43:07led by Aziruddin's 64.
43:11But it was perseverance with Eddie Hemmings that got the final collapse and the ultimate
43:16total of 219.
43:18That included 19 extras, but it was just not enough by India.
43:21Hemmings, by the way, took four for 21 in his last 34 balls.
43:27Mike Atting used six bowlers.
43:29Hemmings took four for 52.
43:31But the most economical being Embry, 10 overs, one for 35.
43:35And a useful performance by Gladstone Smalls, six overs, one for 22.
43:41So the man of the match was pretty obvious.
43:44It was Graham Gooch for that brilliant 115, the third consecutive time he's taken that award
43:49out here.
43:49To bat first, our commentators at Eden Gooch.
