00:00The highlights. This time was a game between Zimbabwe and New Zealand played at Hyderabad.
00:06And what a cliffhanger this one turned out to be.
00:09The second closest match ever to be played in any World Cup.
00:13Zimbabwe won the toss and put New Zealand into bat.
00:17I suspect prompted by the fact that recent heavy rains had made the outfield slow and heavy
00:22and shots that deserved four runs usually went for three and two.
00:26We joined the action in the second over with Rawson bowling to Sneddon.
00:34Rawson to Sneddon and he edges him past second slip.
00:43We have a slow motion.
00:46It's high enough.
00:48Can't pass third slip.
00:50Current coming now.
00:54And that is a really good try behind him.
00:56There's a slow motion of that.
01:02And he really moves fast.
01:04Slips.
01:04Even then he manages to keep his balance.
01:08And it's a good throw.
01:10Rawson again.
01:12And Snowball and beautifully caught by Kyle Kost there.
01:16Now that is really an unfortunate incident as far as Zimbabwe is concerned.
01:20Magnificent catch there.
01:28It won't even count to the catch of the match.
01:31It won't even count to the catch of the match.
01:31There is a super young field there.
01:41There is a super young field there.
01:54Now one good damp spots in his cricket but none of the bowlers seem to have hit any yet.
02:12There is a very agile, very, very fine cricketer indeed.
02:32There is a good running between the wickets.
02:34There is a good running between the wickets.
02:35There is a good running between the wickets.
02:37The fine example of how one day cricket should be played.
02:45There again.
02:55Singles have to be taken in a 50-over game.
02:58Oh, let's hit one of the spots that we mentioned earlier.
03:05And that will make the batsman hesitate a bit.
03:09Captain on.
03:09That was first time.
03:11And he's caught him.
03:12Down the leg side.
03:15Right.
03:17Caught Behoti.
03:26Found a bit of feet in there.
03:28And in comes Martin Crowe, whom many people reckon is going to be the batsman of the 90s.
03:48Very strong player, especially on the one side.
03:58Round is to Sleven.
04:06They'll stop there.
04:24Opened up too much.
04:25And not behind it.
04:42The ball may be a bit wet.
04:45And perhaps the ball is finding it a little difficult to grip it.
04:47Martin Crowe.
04:51Martin Crowe.
04:52Come on, come on.
04:53Facing.
04:54He decided to go for his shots.
05:03And so is Sleven.
05:12Try to put the foot down and hit the ball over the top.
05:20It's a close-up view of Sneddon.
05:23As the child comes up to bowl to him.
05:25He's handed out in 26 hours.
05:39For one, he's been coasting along very well at the moment.
05:42That is the sign of a really good player.
06:02If you can go down on one knee to a medium peser and scoop him as if he was an off swimmer.
06:08Look at it.
06:08That is the sign of a fine player.
06:26Well, that was a very good try.
06:29A reflex action.
06:30Got it left hand to it.
06:31But there's no way he's going to hang on to that one.
06:40Arisha there.
06:49He's been bad with.
06:50He looks throwing himself all over the place.
06:53Maybe lacking in experience.
06:56But certainly not lacking in enthusiasm.
07:00That's Arisha.
07:01Looked away.
07:06And he's well-strucked again.
07:08Back around.
07:18It's a strong of his feet that there's no point in bowling to him anywhere near his middle leg or leg stump.
07:29You have to aim at the off or just outside.
07:35Seven goes high up in the air.
07:37Four.
07:38Fifty-four.
07:39Fifty-four.
07:40Fifty-four fine runs there.
07:41The ball goes far too high.
07:42It's not going to carry.
07:4364, 54 fine runs there, the ball goes far too high, it's not going to carry and there's
07:58waller underneath it and he takes it again with hands cup the wrong way around and there's
08:10another fine catch, fine catch all banders, Jones who hadn't settled down yet, Ali Shah
08:27coming in, to go and he's hit him very hard, perfectly legitimate delivery on the off-stump
08:36and he's hit high over square leg
08:43to find six
08:50broken ball just when you were about to let fly, that is certainly a reprieve, there you see it, didn't quite get to it, a reprieve for Zimbabwe,
08:58because the crow was looking very, very good. Deepak Patel, bowling to him, there's Ali Shah, that could be playing in Surat's fold, you know.
09:05Oh, he's got him, that must be out, that must be out, poor Patel. There you see it from the right angle.
09:12He's got him, that must be out, that must be out, poor Patel. There you see it from the right angle.
09:20Not much doubt about that. Came back a bit.
09:27There you see it from the right angle.
09:32Not much doubt about that.
09:37Not much doubt about that. Came back a bit.
09:44Much doubt about that.
09:46Not much doubt about that.
09:58Not much doubt about that.
10:00Here we are.
10:02191.
10:0343.20 is.
10:05Cullen coming in to Jesko.
10:08He's also so strong,
10:10picking up the ball from outside the off-stump,
10:12And look at Patterson, didn't do a fielding there, and 94 for 5, in almost 44 overs,
10:32with 6 overs to go and watch Patterson dive.
10:42He's picking up well, not the middle and half stump, but Brown is waiting for it.
11:00And he's going straight down his throat.
11:06Nice foot off, nice.
11:14Friendly ball to receive.
11:16Track on him and he's hit hard.
11:20And high.
11:22He's really working hard today.
11:36Four more goals to go.
11:40And back to Brown, the same sort of shot as Jeff Cole.
12:04Here Smith is buried pretty well.
12:18One of these New Zealanders seem to be very strong on the onside.
12:24Block coming in.
12:28We go for 2.
12:32And that is the end of New Zealand's innings.
12:40242 for 7.
12:44242 may not seem a large total, but in normal dry circumstances, this would have been more like 280.
12:51The Zimbabwe bowlers stuck to the task well.
12:55And now let's see how their batsmen react to overhauling this total in conditions which are gradually drying out.
13:03The second over of Zimbabwe's inning led into Ali Shah.
13:09Nicely turned.
13:15The field dried out a bit.
13:21Section of the VIPs.
13:25Brown.
13:27Placing Chatfield.
13:29Any edges it and is well caught by Crow there.
13:33Fine catch by Crow.
13:35The ball perhaps moved a bit.
13:37Brown didn't really get behind it.
13:41If it does deviate a little bit, it's a nice low catch.
13:49This will keep up walking.
13:55And that was close, it was extremely close.
14:09He went a long way across the stumps there.
14:13And I don't think that he could have complained too much had he been given out.
14:19But batsman gets the benefit of the doubt.
14:23Ali Shah.
14:25And that should be out.
14:37Yes, it is out.
14:39Ali Shah playing across and around the ball.
14:43And in no way was he not in front.
14:51That would have hit the middle stump I think.
14:53There's two wickets down.
14:55Two good wickets.
14:57Brown and Shah.
14:59Time for three open up to C&As.
15:01That would be entire отдел
15:23We will stop there.
15:25Jackfield dives there. Hortonman making the bowling look easy. Jackfield from this end
15:38to him. And there's a fine hook there. The outfield is still slightly heavy. It's improved
15:49a lot. Kirsten Bowling hit over the top. Bycroft getting into his stride. Willie Watson.
16:07The pitch also eased out quite a lot. It looks like a beautiful batting wicket now. And the
16:31ball paddling along the ground much much faster. That is an ambitious shot. And there's gone
16:49a long way. It looks like a long way. And then Pai Koff getting into the act also. Horton
17:05running. Thinking that the ball might stop. But Pai Koff knows he's hit it hard enough.
17:11Remains in his crease.
17:18Pai Koff kicks in there.
17:24Baba. There he goes. And he stopped and he's sent back. And it's a very, very close thing
17:32indeed. Braceful there. Come in. Coming in. Shoots. Straight into Watson's hands where he's
17:50dropped it. He got his hands to it but disappointed there.
17:57Gimbabwe in lots of trouble at the moment. He seems to. Seems to have almost pushed it out
18:19of his hands actually. He's taken it the other way around but. It is still slightly slippery
18:28outfield. And that's high up in the air. And Bach getting under it and making sure that there's
18:40no collision with his team mate. Number of occasions when. Two fielders go for the same catch.
18:50End up by clashing with each other. One of them has to shout. Mine. Very quickly.
18:57This is the other. This is the other. This is the other. This is the other. This is the other.
19:04Sweep. Sweep that Peter May banned. Both of them from playing.
19:10And that is far more authentic a shot.
19:25Waller in now. Watson bowling. And you guys did. And a fairly straightforward catch. And Zimbabwe
19:37really in lots and lots of trouble now. Very little chance of making up the deficit.
19:47Paterson comes in. Paterson facing Bach. Goes to cut it. Yes you've got an edge to it bounce quite a lot too that ball.
20:15Far too close to the body. To cut the. Pissed on the stumps. And in fact may well have hit the stumps had he not touched it.
20:33And here's Patel. And the reverse sweep this time again. Better timed.
20:45It would be good. To think of three but hopefully getting a little bit tired.
20:55You have to see the ball very early to play the shot. First played as far as I can remember by Mushtaq Muhammad of Pakistan.
21:03It took most of England by surprise.
21:21Fantastic. One doesn't know what to say about that.
21:27Having a rough time. Poor Watson.
21:31No slick but well fielded.
21:35Oh he's really enjoying himself. He's timed that beautifully.
21:51And he's on top of the chamois and there. And there it will stay.
21:59And here's the turn.
22:05Put it on top of the chamois and it will stay.
22:11The trim.
22:13Yeah, then look.
22:15The trim.
22:17The trim.
22:20The trim.
22:23The.
22:24That's a fine sweep and a finer hunger, through the filaments.
22:42He walks in and it's high up in the air, cat field is there and he's dropped it.
22:51Well, a bit of luck there for Horton, but he's played so well, he deserves it.
23:02The only one who's making a real fight back in this match.
23:09The others tended to throw the wicket away, but he's had a bit of luck also, and this
23:14is one part of it.
23:18Watson again, struck high, over mid on, and the outfield now, dry enough for the ball
23:27to travel.
23:28Braceful.
23:29It's a full toss, played, a full toss played by, with a reverse sweep.
23:41Braceful.
23:56Truth job playing well now.
23:58and the situation is desperate and it needs desperate measures
24:08and Horton playing game that is life
24:14he steps away from the next jump, the closer they bowl to him, I can't understand why they don't bowl on the off-stump
24:29I'm a little tired now and who wouldn't be?
24:37again, this is not particularly intelligent bowling here
24:45a nice little Yorker on the off-stump would finish Horton, I'd imagine
24:52but they refused to bowl it
24:54and it's gone a very long way up in the air
24:57and it's beautifully caught by Martin Crowe
25:00that's one of the finest catches I've seen
25:03and a great innings there
25:05that really was a wonderful catch
25:07and in an even better innings
25:09here's a replay
25:11Horton has brought his team back into the game
25:14a game which was virtually dead
25:16half an hour ago or so
25:19and it could really be anybody's game now
25:24especially if Zimbabwe bat intelligently
25:27look at that catch
25:29that'll go as one of the great catches
25:34of all time
25:36nicely full toss
25:43get off with
25:44and has run out
25:45yes
25:46that is a run out
25:47and Zimbabwe in great trouble
25:52Brandy's portfolio
25:53probably pulled the muscle
25:54and the John Tricos
25:58the captain coming in
25:59last man in
26:00he gets another full toss
26:03and then he's in for six
26:15and that means that there's six balls needed
26:18Oh, well, they believe in bowling food tosses around here, and he's in for six, and that
26:26means that there are six balls needed, and six runs to go, and here comes Bok, the last
26:32over, and they go through for a single, five runs in five balls, and there is tension, Bok,
26:39in his second ball, and he's hit it, and they go through, and they go through for two, no,
26:45they settle for one, four balls to go, and four runs to get, three balls to go, sorry,
26:53and four runs to get, and he swings, and they go, and they stop, and they go, and that,
27:01I'm afraid, is a rather sad end to a wonderful effort, a tremendous effort by Zimbabwe, who
27:08were out of the picture, most of the game, but mainly due to Horton, came back to win
27:15this fantastic tie.
27:20In some ways, this match reminded me of the game that India played against Australia at
27:25Madras.
27:26On both these occasions, the middle order failed, and the side which kept its composure went on
27:31to win the match.
27:33Quite rightly, Horton was declared the man of the match, and what a truly astounding innings
27:38he played, bringing a dead game back to life, making a victory almost possible from a virtually
27:45impossible situation.
27:48And even if Zimbabwe lost, they can justifiably appreciate this effort, as indeed the large crowd
27:54did in Hathabad.
