Man dies after being tasered by police in a Perth backyard

A man has died after suffering a medical episode minutes after being tasered by police in Perth’s north-east overnight. An internal police investigation into the death has begun.

00:00An alleged home invasion gone wrong.

00:05Police responding to reports of a man acting erratically.

00:09The man had entered a house occupied by people not known to him

00:12and had smashed multiple windows at the property.

00:15Police say they received reports of a disturbance not long after midnight.

00:19Officers attended a home on Priestly Street in Embleton

00:23and located the man in the backyard.

00:26Officers attempted to negotiate with the man who continued to behave in an aggressive manner

00:31and was not compliant with police instructions.

00:34As a result, police say the man was tasered and shortly after suffered a medical episode.

00:39He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he later died.

00:43Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones during this difficult time.

00:56as well as paramedics and medical staff.

00:59Because the man was in police custody before he died,

01:02officers will complete an internal investigation into his death
