00:00We've just heard from Commissioner Donna Adams they're not yet releasing the
00:07identity of the police officer who sadly was killed today but they did say that
00:12he was a 57 year old constable a 25 year veteran of the force and that he was
00:17attending a house at North Motton near Olverston in Tasmania's northwest to
00:22issue a warrant to repossess the house at the house sorry he was in attendance
00:26with special operations group officers as well as a senior sergeant but the
00:31special operations group officers they were hanging back at the end of the
00:35driveway and he was just attending the house with the senior sergeant and the
00:40special operations group attendance was a routine frontline response and they
00:44were saying that no one was expecting and anything like this to occur
00:48Commissioner Adams said many of the questions the media had will form part of
00:53their investigation but here's more of what she had to say I stand united with
00:58the Police Association president Mr Shane Tilley as all Tasmanian police officers
01:05stand together in shock and in grief as we try to process what's happened this
01:11morning the safety of our officers is our number one priority and to see an officer
01:18tragically killed in these circumstances is truly shocking
01:23yeah so obviously hearing from Commissioner Adams there with just the
01:30the grief the sense of loss and tragedy palpable as she referred to Shane Tilley
01:35he spoke about something like this never having happened in his career and it's
01:40hard to tell potentially when the last fatal incident involving a Tasmania police
01:45officer was so the the mood on the ground here in Tasmania today is just one of
01:50grief shock and tragic loss
