Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, along with INDIA bloc MPs, led a protest outside Parliament opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Backed by other opposition parties, they demanded transparency in the voter roll revision.
00:00More news coming in. Let's take a look at these developments.
00:04Again, opposition MPs are protesting outside parliament on Bihar electoral revision controversy.
00:12India block again on Adharna.
00:14They're marching from the Prerna's Thal to the Makar Dwar on the issue of electoral roll revision in the state of Bihar,
00:22which has seen the opposition up in arms, placards and sloganeering inside and outside parliament.
00:28Let's take a listen.
00:30What Priyanka Chaturvedi had said.
00:55All right, listen to what Priyanka Gandhi had said on this entire issue.
00:59They should respond to the allegations.
01:17They should provide us with what we're asking for.
01:19Why are they not providing voters' lists?
01:22It should be a transparent, it's a democracy.
01:24All political parties should have access to that information.
01:28So why is it not being provided?
01:30They should respond to the allegations.
01:32They should provide us with what we're asking for.
01:35Why are they not providing voters' lists?
01:37It should be a transparent, it's a democracy.
01:39All political parties should have access to that information.
01:43So why is it not being provided?
01:47Moshmi is getting in more details on that story at this point in time.
01:50Moshmi, the limbo there in parliament continues with things not moving ahead.
01:56The government has said, we aren't discussing this in the House.
01:58But the opposition, of course, is hell-bent, isn't it?
02:03That's right, Sneha.
02:04You can hear the sloganeering that's happening.
02:06This is for the fourth consecutive day that SIR has been raging in the premises of the parliament.
02:15And today the opposition is also marching from, in fact, Gazi statue to Makar Dwar to prove its point that SIR is what they want a discussion on and a commitment from the government.
02:30There, Priyanka Gandhi, you can also hear, saying that why is the record not being provided to the opposition parties.
02:39And the election commission has a lot of answering to do.
02:45You know, the big question here really is, what is the way forward?
02:49What is the way forward, given that the government has said, we aren't discussing this.
02:54The opposition is, in fact, holding a protest.
02:58Once the session begins, I know there would be adjournments, given that there is no, the House has not been able to function, given the sloganeering inside.
03:08See, there is a complete deadlock prevailing on this front, Sneha.
03:11They have been able to iron out the differences as far as Operation Sindhuur is concerned.
03:18But if you look at SIR, the government is simply saying this is not in our ambit.
03:24And if you remember, way back in 2012, the money spent per day was about over 9 crores for the functioning of the parliament.
03:34So clearly, with this logjam prevailing, it is the public excess money that has been lost all through this one week.
03:42Many in the opposition also believe, and though they are not very vocal about it, that you have four weeks of parliament.
03:50The entire one week, we have had no discussions, deliberations or bills being discussed or talked about.
03:59And the entire one-fourth of the time of the monthly session has been watched out in demanding discussion on SIR.
04:08Is that the right way forward?
04:09That's right, Moshmi Bhibadas, we have in fact pictures of the opposition united on the issue of the electoral revision in the state of Bihar.
04:21And Moshmi, the entire India bloc is united.
04:25Trinamul Congress has said that today it is Bihar, tomorrow it could be Bengal, isn't it?
04:29And hence, the entire India bloc is together on this matter.
04:32Absolutely, Sneha, it's been after a long, long while that the India bloc has found one common ground.
04:42Otherwise, earlier, you know, the Samadwadi party, in fact, the Sinamul had been deferring on what the Congress would want to disturb the House on,
04:54or what a pertinent issue was, and we've seen that in the past one year.
05:00But SIR is one issue that touches upon a common cause, and not only in Bengal, but Rahul Gandhi stated it's going to happen in SIR and in the down south.
05:13And that's one reason that we've seen regional startups, you know, rallying to unitedly protest against SIR in the parliament.
05:22And a lot of loud protests are happening.
05:26Today they are marching from Gandhi statue to Makardwara, and perhaps by next week there could be a bigger protest plan at Jantar Mantar.
05:35All right, I'm going to leave it at that for the moment.
05:37Morshmi Singh getting us those details.
05:40He's showing these pictures of our members, in front of parliament, protesting right outside the parliament.
05:46In fact, the session is going to be starting in roughly about 15 minutes from now.
05:51Remember, the House has not been functioning since the very beginning of the Montserrat session.
05:57The House has not been functioning, and the House has not been functioning, and the House has not been functioning.
