00:00Ocho is up with us early.
00:02He said, Sean, I'm late.
00:03You know that you're up early routinely when it's 619
00:07and your first thing you text is, I'm late.
00:09Yeah, sorry, I'm late.
00:10Yeah, that's true, though.
00:10Ocho's here at 6 a.m. every day.
00:12Did you mention the ace of the staff, Mr. Brandon Lee Walter,
00:16a.k.a. great value Tom Glavitt?
00:18I'm telling you right now, if the Astros were to be heading into,
00:22maybe not a wild card series, but maybe if it went two out of three,
00:26Brandon Walter is your third best starter right now.
00:28Yes.
00:28He's starting playoff games for you right now.
00:30If this is what you look like pitching-wise going into the postseason,
00:34he is starting playoff games for you without question, I think.
00:37Yeah, and you could look at it from either side, right?
00:40On the one end, that's a little bit concerning given the experience
00:43and just the no-name nature of it.
00:47But also, if you're like us, like the people that are listening to this show
00:50and like you and I who watch every Astros game
00:52and watch every Brandon Walter start, you're kind of like, you know what?
00:55I am actually okay with that guy based off of what I've seen.
00:58So, I'm a Brandon Walter guy.
01:01I'm actually a fan of all of the, let's call them minor league pitchers
01:05that they've had kind of come in and fill in the spot for the injured guys
01:10between Brandon Walter, Colton Gordon.
01:12All these guys have had their issues, but at the same time,
01:14you kind of understand it.
01:16I've got far less of a problem with these guys themselves
01:19as I do just the situation in and of itself that I can't, none of us can control.
01:24It just kind of is what it is.
01:26Shout out to John Lopez.
01:27But like, just the fact that they're in this position is what I object to
01:30more than what they've actually given us.
01:32I am a Brandon Walter guy for sure.
01:33I put Gusto in the same bucket with those.
01:36I know he was on the team to come out of camp in the bullpen,
01:38but he's been, you know, he's had to start a bunch of games this year.
01:41You weren't expecting that.
01:42Or has to come out there and relieve Lance, whatever he's scuffling,
01:47because now it's his long reliever role.
01:50Now I get to one or the other.
01:52Or even last, I say last night, yesterday, it was wild watching the broadcast
01:57yesterday towards the end of the game, and Callis and Blum are sitting there
02:00talking about, and rightfully so, talking about, like, man,
02:04Abreu might have to finish this game.
02:06They're up 11-3.
02:07They've just got nobody else.
02:09And they mentioned that Gusto might be available.
02:13He's never pitched two days in a row before, so do you worry about what kind
02:17of impact that has on his arm?
02:18Eventually, obviously, they didn't.
02:20They brought him in.
02:20But, yeah, like, it sounded weird in an 11-3 game,
02:23but they're kind of having to figure some things out because they've been so
02:26taxed on the bullpen.
02:27And that's where, boy, Lance has got to – I mean, if you're going to throw Lance
02:31McCullers out there every five or six days, he's got to give you more than two
02:35and two-thirds innings.
02:36A good Lance start can't be five innings with 101 pitches.
02:41Right.
02:41I mean, but this is even when he's been good.
02:43This is kind of – he's never been an economical pitcher.
02:45Yeah.
02:46You know?
02:46And now he's not economical or necessarily effective, which really, at some point –
02:53That combination.
02:54And I don't know if we're at this point now, and maybe we're there,
02:58maybe we're just getting there, but at some point we're going to have to have
03:00the conversation of, is this guy hurting you more than he's helping?
03:03Because, you know, when he was coming back or in the beginning of the year,
03:06it was like, hey, luxury Lance, it's a plus.
03:08Then when he gets back, it's, hey, you need this guy.
03:11He's your third best guy at this point.
03:13And now –
03:13And he started pitching that way for a brief spell.
03:16For a brief spell, exactly.
03:17It kind of teased you a little bit with – and I even said it on the air.
03:21I was like, man, it's amazing how Lance McCullers continues to reinvent himself
03:25by force because he has to with all the injuries that he's had.
03:28He's had to reinvent himself as a pitcher and a credit to him for doing that.
03:31But now that's not looking so great.
03:33So at some point there's going to be a conversation,
03:35or it could be a conversation of what is Lance McCullers,
03:38what is the best place of the best use of him, if any at all.
