00:00for nearly a decade the garden rescue team have made dreams come true for hundreds of garden
00:09owners across the UK oh wow it's absolutely stunning thank you so much no matter the challenge
00:28it's just coming down a little harder the rain if this weather keeps on as it is we're not going
00:33to have anything to see and no matter the garden I'll tell you what Flo it's a little bit smaller
00:38than I thought we've got the job done that's brilliant but the one question I always get
00:45asked is what happens to the gardens after we leave well now wow are we blooming it it's my
00:55turn to be amazed that's grown into a bar I'm going back it's been a long time yeah to my
01:03favorite garden rescues five years including some of our very first to find out what happened we should
01:19have called it the dimmer after we packed up our spades I'm very excited to see the garden it has
01:25gone huge we've picked the perfect day to show you around the sun is shining the gardens looking
01:32beautiful it's fabulous this time in the Cotswolds hello Charlotte Grigg I see for myself how a blank
01:46canvas has been replaced with a mouth-watering country garden retreat we've had lots and lots
01:51of fun growing potatoes among two I don't know about you but whenever I've grown veg with children
01:58they actually eat those ones yeah catch up with a garden in Birmingham that needed some major TLC
02:07do you still love the garden yeah do you it's just been amazing you know we can't thank the team
02:12enough really it's just for so much and I head to Milton Keynes to discover what's happened to a garden
02:20we transformed six years ago you've done a fantastic job looking after it Charlie this is a dream garden for
02:27us now over the years the garden rescue team been lucky enough to build gardens in some of the prettiest
02:37parts of Britain one of my favorites was in the Cotswolds where the rich brothers and Arat found
02:44themselves four years ago this is Charlotte and Greg's garden in Morton in Marsh in the Cotswolds their
02:52daughter winter their son Albert and shadow the dog now the whole family relocated recently from Dubai to
02:58a beautiful part of the world what they're looking for is to have a country cottage garden one that is
03:05typical of the Cotswold area Charlotte and Greg's garden was a complete blank canvas so this is our
03:12garden we have a lot of green space a beautiful wall that goes all the way around it red brick wall a lot
03:21of grass and it's waiting to come alive the couple had four thousand five hundred pounds to spend and
03:30and had already built a vegetable patch it's been brilliant isn't it yeah it's been a lovely summer
03:36of creating some beautiful fresh produce so Arat proposed a design that moved there grow your own
03:41patch to a more convenient spot so I've brought it nearer to the house and given you a raised bed for
03:47you to be able to have your herbs and vegetables this patio area has been extended so that you've got
03:53enough sitting area for a table and your sofa I love that but those cheeky rich brothers
04:00had a trick up their sleeves we know that you wanted to have a Cotswold country garden somewhere
04:07that have had a nice bit of formality but also some informality through the plants we wanted to create
04:13a bit more of an informal atmosphere so that's why we've got this nice bound gravel on the floor
04:16the gravel leads to the evening bar area so it's going to be an elevated bar you can have some stools
04:23there and it's somewhere you can just relax and enjoy the last little bit of Sun and just have a bar in
04:28our garden it's gonna be so cool and so picking a winner was actually quite straightforward and the
04:35winner is really just just fabulous we're really excited that was the easy part place we've got do a
04:50preparation first and then all hands on oak with nothing to clear from the garden there was plenty
04:59to bring in starting with 500 pounds worth of oak for the bar pergola and raised beds I'm just putting
05:06the basic structure of the bar together as well as some new patio to lay for Kyle the tricky thing
05:17is when when trying to do this is match the existing slabs but the boys have actually done a really nice
05:22job with these and a pergola to get up now the the timbers here have been screwed together keep them nice
05:29and firm but as you can see gruff's just putting in little oak plugs all that's doing is it's going
05:35in the hole of the screw went in but it's just covering the screw head so when you look at it
05:39it looks as if you're using almost a traditional way of building where it's no joints and then the
05:43oak pegs that go through to hold it next the planting started to take shape now Greg and Charlotte
05:51really liked the idea of having quite a romantic almost quite country garden now when you think of
05:58that you think of perhaps roses and lavender so they were the two plants that we definitely wanted
06:03to filter into these planting beds the trees are doing a really important job in this garden they're
06:15controlling it but they're not dominating it inside the pergola we've got an espalliated apple tree lots
06:21of control going on there it's not taking up much space at all but it's really utilizing this warm
06:27south facing wall and finally thanks to loads of perennials grasses and evergreen hedges Greg and
06:35Charlotte's new garden was ready for them to see what had been a vast open space was now more like an
06:46established old country garden three two one open your eyes oh my gosh wow I'm actually speechless oh
06:57oh look at that it's so beautiful thank you oh thank you so much you clever guys it's amazing I'm never short of words I'm never short of words wow from that boring nothingness oh my goodness
07:13that's great I'm wonderful there's let there's so much in the garden oh yeah
07:21yeah lots of plants in the garden things like roses lavender rosemary thank you so much
07:26should we go and have a little I'd love to yeah yeah leave the way guys wonder okay we've got the
07:30wisteria on this side and a rose on that side so you can train it up and around and it'll kind of
07:35cascade down it's a dream come true it was a vision wanting you here and to have it realized today is
07:42it's so beautiful Greg and Charlotte loved the garden four years ago but what I want to know is has the
07:49love blossomed into their dream space hello Charlotte Greg morning good morning Charlie good morning it's a
07:57pleasure to see you welcome to Morton in Marsh yes now I have to say I saw the program and Harry and David
08:04really nailed that Cotswold theme to the garden didn't they oh absolutely we're absolutely thrilled
08:12with it we were taken back at the time and and it's even better now in four years Greg and Charlotte's
08:20garden has undergone a dramatic change when we left the planting in the newly laid patio area was yet to
08:27mature now the beds are blooming back then the newly raised bench patch was just soil now fresh fruit
08:38and veg is popping up for the family to enjoy oh I can see the veg we've got a bit smaller scale this
08:46year but obviously four years of sort of harvesting and production and the children being very involved as
08:52well we've had lots and lots of fun growing potatoes of mange too and tomatoes tomatoes sweet corn yeah
09:01that's fantastic it's really good for the children as well you know they learn about where their food
09:06comes from and grow in it I don't know about you but whenever I've grown veg with children they
09:11actually eat those ones yeah when they're so involved absolutely when we had finished the pergola and
09:20its new surrounding plants were still young now the hedges have flourished along with the new trees
09:26so the pergola is it's a nice space and is that the apple tree espaliered on the wall yes it is and
09:35we've had some lovely harvest from that as well Greg's become it's an expert become quite good at pruning it
09:43it's grown very vigorously though this year so I might need a few tips on that that'll be all that rain
09:48we've had so what you'll need to do this year is you see all those long wispy bits that have come
09:54out yeah you need to summer prune and take those back by two-thirds right okay just take those back
10:01so it keeps the shape and then you build up these fruiting spurs and it it will stop a lot of that
10:06excess growth so it all goes into the fruit rather than into making more branches yes okay that's good
10:13because it looks very green but we need a bit more fruit this season four years ago the planting in
10:20the center of the garden was yet mature now the perennials and grasses have grown so much it feels
10:26more like an established old country garden this has been really exceptional and has just taken
10:33really well it changes every year though some of the plants have kind of come back some don't we found
10:39the grass is really a quite vigorous yeah and so have moved a couple of them out so grasses you know
10:45that once they get going they can really get going so it's quite fine to dig them up and split them
10:50through and as with all sort of herbaceous type plants when you split them through you know you
10:59want to save the younger bits and chuck the older bits because the younger bits are going to be the
11:04nice healthier vigorous plants so you could split them through no problem at all but with your perennials
11:11you find some perennials are shorter lived and some are longer lived yeah that's part of the garden just
11:16developing really so we are so over the moon that we had garden rescue it was an absolute game changer
11:28to us being here and feeling settled here and creating this amazing space we're thrilled we had
11:34garden rescue come and designed the garden and four years on it really has delivered what I love about it
11:41is you've got that formality with the informality and they just contrast and such lovely spaces for
11:49you to use as a family absolutely
11:56good on you well done the garden looks fantastic I hope I've been able to help you out with a couple
12:02of things and keep up the good work oh thank you so much Charlie lovely to see you thank you thank you
12:09very much we appreciate it so much see you another five years okay
12:15I'm loving how Greg and Charlotte's garden turned out
12:22but my next garden revisit was a very different challenge
12:27I'm back in a sunny Milton Keynes where six years ago Vinnie and Renute's garden was transformed
12:33by the rich brothers garden was very plain and patio area was uneven all the slabs were coming off
12:44and the drainage area had damage so it was a risk as well we were hardly using the garden basically it was
12:51like a dead square piece very dull and very boring they both enjoy gardening but a lack of time meant the
13:00couple needed help and that's where Harry David and I came in what would you like from the garden the only
13:08thing which probably we need a lot of color in this garden you is that what you would like more color in
13:14the garden yes because in the interior of my house I have used a lot of colors and color brings happiness
13:21to your life it makes you smile doesn't it I mean I see that you've got lots of seats around the garden
13:26and and places to relax entertainment is key for us we we do lots and lots of barbecue during summer
13:34and we want our friends family to enjoy he is very popular among our friends and family for his barbecue which
13:42we thought we should reflect it uh more seating space and maybe some herbs and vegetables in the
13:49garden oh that would be fantastic actually yeah yeah picking up my own mint if I'm making mojito
13:54oh mojitos that's not really barbecuing mojitos it has to it has to go the food has to go the
14:01drink and the food has to go together we are Hindus and uh Hinduism is all about love peace peace with
14:10nature I think a vibrant garden is a true reflection of what we believe they do also like
14:18the idea of a sort of meditation area oh so a nice lively side of the garden then also a nice relaxing
14:24quiet side of the garden as well that's the one it looks like a pretty large garden and there's not
14:29that much in it so what's the what's the budget budget's three thousand okay it's all right yeah you
14:35know so there's a lot of work there but three grand can go quite far the boys and i wasted no time
14:40coming up with our designs so your patio area down here i've just rearranged it leveled it made it more
14:49usable but the main entertainment area is this new patio further up the garden and then coming down here
14:57an ornate pathway with lots of herbs running through it so as you tread on them you'll get that scent leading
15:04to this area here where you can sit and meditate my design took a more traditional approach while
15:12harry and david's design was more contemporary what we thought would be very necessary in the garden is
15:17to have a larger patioed area at the moment it's really thin small and most of it's trip hazard so
15:24what we'd like to do is remove all of that and then repave it with a nice natural stone but large enough
15:31that you can have a lovely big family table there nice way to incorporate color into the garden also
15:35to provide more seating for when you have people around is to actually put these walls into a garden
15:42there's reasons for the colors we've chosen so this burnt orange burnt yellow is turmeric and then we
15:48want to go for this kind of purpley dark purpley blue is juniper and then it's saffron yeah and then
15:53the plants that we've got running through here are going to be nice and vibrant and colorful as well
15:58you said you like to meditate it creates this lovely spot just sitting amongst the shrubs in this
16:03lovely natural space where you can sit relax and then to enjoy a slightly more tranquil side of the
16:07garden both our designs created spaces to entertain and to relax for vinnie and ranuk choosing between
16:15the two wasn't easy when we saw both designs in fact both designs amazing amazing we both were like
16:25you know we wanted both but there was very little between two designs and in fact
16:30it was very difficult for us yes but a decision had to be made you're making it difficult for us
16:36that yeah i'm gonna tell us i'm really nervous about this but yeah
16:45we picked up rich brothers and not charlie there was very subtle difference in charlie's design the
16:51entertainment area was on the back side of the house and we wanted something which is closer to the
16:58house so that there is cooking happening in the kitchen and you're straight going to the garden and
17:04so the food so maybe we thought we were finding out reasons to choose a design and that was one of
17:09the reasons it was then up to the team to bring david and harry's design to life and with the
17:16entertainment space top of the wish list we needed to get cracking two big problems here are the patio
17:23paving and that grass and i tell you guys that is rock hard all coming up with a huge area of patio and lawn to
17:32dig out it was a back-breaking start to the project but with the new slabs going down
17:42the summer house got a facelift and work began on the rich brothers walls
17:50david and harry and i couldn't wait to get involved too wow look at this hey well the patio looks
17:58incredible the team have done a fantastic job laying this lovely dark limestone and it's a far
18:04cry from what was here before david got to work on his coloured walls tell you what this rendering
18:11job is easier than it looks isn't it wow it's therapeutic isn't it it's almost like baking a cake
18:16i feel we're just putting on the icing i do love a bit of decoration whilst i took inspiration from
18:22some bamboo i found in the garden to concoct an off-plan mini bar for vinnie so to make the bar
18:30look a little bit more uh bar like i'm using vinnie and ranook's bamboo they've got a great big clump of
18:38bamboo in the corner of the garden which is fantastic looks great but of course it's also useful for
18:44getting canes with harry busy making a bespoke table it was time for the planting
18:57it was really key that this garden was full of life and full of color and that's one of the reasons
19:02that we're using this gorgeous rowan or mountain ash now it's a small tree so it's not going to
19:09dominate this space but what it will do is add loads of color we've got things like hazel which has a
19:23lovely golden tone which comes in early we've also got cornice which again has a lovely autumn color and
19:29is really well known for its winter form and color through the stems but you've also got something
19:34like this rose tottering by gently it's lovely soft yellow tone but really this garden is all about
19:40linking in with bold colors of the wall with the beautiful change in color in through the shrubs
19:46with the gravel paths laid for the meditation zone of the garden there was just time for some spiritual
19:52touches before vinnie and renouk got a first look three two one open your eyes
20:01oh my god wow this is
20:10this is that's good then i take it look at that nice
20:13oh my god it's totally cheap yeah it's absolutely amazing we were really shocked and
20:25we didn't expect uh that it's going to turn out to be so beautiful what had been a large empty square
20:33of garden was now a space fit for entertaining and meditation with a large patio complete with bespoke
20:41table and colorful seating walls and a quiet more reflective area with gentle planting and revamped
20:49summer house i have not even imagined that this would be the change oh really i have not imagined i've
20:57seen the pictures i've shown shown us the design and we knew there would be some walls we knew well
21:05there would be a quiet place there oh but charlie's also been really busy she's built a beautiful
21:12mojito bar that's beautiful because she has used in fact bamboos from yeah it's all recycled here
21:18i know i know now where i can find vinnie very very clever yes beautiful that's amazing everything we
21:25wanted and it's it's fantastic i can just sum it up in one word that's fantastic that was six years ago
21:33and i'm keen to see for myself what's changed we are excited to show our garden to charlie but at the
21:40same time we are also nervous because we did not select her design here we go
21:46now i know it wasn't my garden because you chose the rich brothers i'll let you off so far
22:06but i'm very excited to see the garden off we go oh this is exciting oh my goodness
22:15ranook it's changed so much it has look at this meadow oh it's absolutely gorgeous it's so colorful
22:24even though we're what where are we we're sort of mid-july and it's still looking absolutely gorgeous
22:31what looked different back then is even more different now this garden basically it's a
22:38retreat for me when it you know hustle bustle and it's just so peaceful here and i just find it so
22:46good so the whole thing was having a big socializing area but then also somewhere that you could just
22:51chill this is great then which is your favorite part of the garden i would say bar after having
23:01few drinks next day if you want to calm your mind yeah meditation meditation meditation that was over
23:08there yeah now the heart was already there the summer house yes our house was there yeah it wasn't
23:14that color i changed the color we just wanted to camouflage with everything with the gardens so
23:21i can't wait to explore six years ago top of the wish list was a proper entertaining space
23:27and harry and david certainly delivered i'm excited to see how it looks now you still got harry's
23:35bench and seats yeah wasn't this color was it this was natural color okay we painted green painted green
23:42to match with the summer house the summer house right okay i remember when you walked out because
23:49this area here was defined by the walls remind me of the colors again they were juniper uh saffron
23:56turmeric turmeric turmeric and it is all in sync with uh with the nature yeah the colors and it really does
24:04define this socializing area i know socializing was a really big thing for you wasn't it it is
24:11because like the month of august in this space itself in this garden we accumulated about 80 to 90
24:19people so this place was buzzing whenever we have got parties or friends coming over we prefer outside
24:26and our friends also like they say we don't want to sit in we want to go out six years on and the
24:32entertainment area is proving its worth but what about the rest of the garden i mean look at it i said you
24:40know give it a year and this meadow will be up to almost waist height and it is look fantastic and
24:47what i love are the trees in this garden people get very nervous about putting trees in a small garden
24:52but look it's fantastic dappled shade because sometimes you want to sit in the shade the berries
24:58and of course those flower in the spring so for the wildlife and also it's very natural and i love the
25:05way it changes the color with the season and i have to say vinay this is great so you've this dogwood
25:10you've you've crown lifted it so you've got the texture of the stems nice snail there cute little
25:16snail but you've still got the canopy that just adds height and when you add height to a garden like this
25:22it makes the garden feel bigger bigger yes i mean it is amazing come back six years later i mean they have
25:30grown and shot up so much because they were sort of this little height weren't they and look at this
25:36it is like a woodland walk isn't it yeah so which plants do you like here this purple one here right
25:42so this is it's a hardy geranium so it's more of an ornamental but you can actually plant it into the
25:47meadow turf because it will take being chopped down and it flowers and flowers and it's also known as
25:53crane's bill because if you look at the seed head it looks like the bill of a crane a bird yeah so it's
26:01gorgeous isn't it i i like this yeah and the combination of purple and yellow makes it very
26:07special yeah it does looks gorgeous and you've got two different yellows there you've got st john's
26:11wart which is native and then that's the bird's foot trefoil
26:18this is going to my area now i was responsible for this bit of the garden wasn't i
26:23what was originally designed to be the meditation area of the garden
26:27has kept its promise as a place to unwind this garden gives us love peace very close to the nature
26:35and mainly peace of mind actually where's my bar gone we have moved the bar because here we could do
26:45two or three in the bar all right and we have moved to new place where we can have 20 or 30. okay
26:51so the babu is very popular yes i thought you'd got rid of it back then no but it has got a new
26:57color a new color as well yes so i do remember this area was going to be the the quiet zone so
27:02do you use this area for meditation this is my favorite place in the morning i come here i have my
27:08tea and then i do meditation and my breathing exercise like can you listen to the birds chirping
27:14now so the early morning it's even more and it just sets you up for the day doesn't it even when it
27:20rains or when it's cold uh because we go into our summer house there if it's raining open the door
27:27just surrounded by nature huh yeah what could be better absolutely maybe a mojito
27:35six years ago i had a hoop designing a mini bar for finney i can't wait to see how it looks now
27:42well there is the bar i have to say i mean it's looking good lack of mint there finney all mint used for
27:49mojitos okay okay perhaps we can shush that up it's amazing you know that's basically just a palette
27:56that we up cycled but very practical do you use it a lot very practical and it can cater to many people
28:03my bar's certainly getting good use but it could do with a spot of tlc
28:09pop that down there finney oh vinney this rose doesn't look too happy we are struggling with this
28:16rose is it because it is in the shade of the bar it won't be the shade what i can see is the obvious
28:21sort of problem is that the soil has eroded from around the roots so it's struggling like this roots
28:29are exposed come the autumn what i would suggest is that you cut it back hard and just replant it
28:36sort of maybe somewhere else to the side and plant it so that the soil is at this level okay so you can
28:43see these are all the roots and all you need to do with these is just pick off the sort of most
28:47diseased leaves and don't put them in the compost put them in your green bin and dispose of them so
28:54here vinnie have a leaf for the bin back to the bar and some new plants to add to the basics i potted
29:02six years ago right finney here you go i've got some mint to go in here but i thought because you like
29:09your cocktails and you like making them look pretty yes i do so these are scented geraniums so you
29:15squish the leaves oh lemon lemon citrus citrus and this one is the same as well so i'm going to get
29:25you to put them in the pots you can use the petals to dress the drinks with but they're not hardy so
29:31come the winter time you need to move them either very close to the house so they're out of the rain
29:38but protected or you can move them in onto the windowsill to keep them going and you can tip them
29:43back and they're really easy to take cuttings off as well so if you pop those up hopefully you'll keep
29:49those going for many years yes look at that you've done that before yeah so recycling the compost
29:57so remind me vinnie what is in a majita made of mint sugar lemon and of course rum rum so i've got
30:05some mint to replace your other one and the good thing about putting mint in a container
30:11is it keeps it under control because if you plant it in the garden it can really take off
30:16charlie how does this that's that's fine so that's good yeah that's fine you've got a nice
30:22gap between the top of the soil and the top of the pot so that's ideal so that's that one done
30:27now vinnie's gone off to get all the gear ready because he's going to make me a mojito or show me
30:36how to do it so he's getting all his bits and bobs together so i'm gonna plant up the planter with a
30:42few extra things so i want it to be a bit of a surprise for him so we've got some mints this one is
30:49chocolate mint so it's got a more purple tinge to it as part from the mints i've also got apple mint which is
30:55just the most loveliest oh lovely lovely but then i wanted to give him a couple of things that he can
31:03use to dress the cocktails with as well so we've got dianthus they've got the smell of cloves to them
31:10and you can use the petals to dress salads or go in fruit salads or of course in cocktails and you
31:17literally just pluck the petals off and use those and then because vinnie really likes that yellow
31:26orange color i've got him a calendula and you can use the petals again to dress drinks and salads there
31:33you go look at that revitalized and all zhuzhed up ready for ranook and vinay's next party it's just
31:43time for a quick cocktail lesson for me wow this is amazing a lot of colors yeah and a lot of herbs
31:51now yeah so show us your cocktail making skills then vinay so let's try with new herbs pick the tops out
31:58there you go you smell that beautiful it is fantastic fresh as
32:03most important ingredient big slug of white plum wow that's a lot vinay shake it
32:19my new decorative flowers are being put straight to use look at that well my oh my cheers well cheers
32:33vinnie and ranook's garden has been on quite a journey from the square and unloved plot we first took on
32:41to the vibrant entertainment spot and peaceful meditation space we built and now six years later
32:49it's really come into its own i have to say guys i mean i can see why you love the garden it is so
32:56tranquil so much wildlife and the color and the scent you've done a fantastic job looking after it
33:03thank you thank you very much charlie this is a dream garden for us now i've just about got over
33:09the fact that you picked harry and david
33:19across the years we've created many produce growing plots it's incredible look at the chilies
33:25the peppers is that basil what we've done is we've planted a mix of edibles such as strawberries
33:30mint it's everything i need and water-filled retreats for those in need of a sanctuary on a hot
33:37day i can imagine getting my feet up in there yeah i can do that too in which to unwind just look at
33:42everything around here my final garden was created with relaxation and produce in mind
33:50wow lots of paving lots of paint i mean little signs of green life yeah strawberries mint yeah
33:57five years ago ara and i visited sharina and her husband abu in birmingham
34:03they were frustrated by their first ever gardens lack of well garden the garden is just slabs
34:13not very pretty to look at um no interest at all that's one thing we're not proud of our garden at the
34:18moment it is that typical concrete garden you certainly wouldn't be relaxing in this space
34:24since i've come to this country which is roughly 1990 um all the homes i've lived in um did not have
34:31a garden so now we've we have got a garden i just can't get the time to do anything with it
34:40sharina and abu were desperate for help so it's a lovely big garden and somebody's into a bit of
34:46gardening yeah yeah that would be me yeah so um it's just me i like cooking so i enjoy vegetables
34:52and herbs i come from bangladesh and over there we have a lot of fruit trees but more of exotic fruits
35:01so you've got mango papaya um i know birmingham is very exotic but i'm afraid we won't be able to grow
35:08those things but okay there's no reason why we can't have apple cherries maybe peach so fruit
35:15trees are a definite for you then in the garden um yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah maybe a bit of water
35:21features a little bit of water as well you want a little bit of everything don't you yeah the couple
35:27trusted my design to deliver a garden for relaxation and produce with its large and raised veg beds
35:36a pergola to relax in and a water feature
35:43let's try it i created a patio and pergola to dominate the main central space
35:52but the main feature for abu and for me is this raised pond it's great perching height and i know
36:00it's breeze block at the moment but what we're going to do is clad it in the paving to give
36:04quite a modern sleek feel and then this will all be lovely and shady we've gone for these gorgeous
36:12mild steel panels and what i'm going to do is not only have them up on the roof we're having
36:18them on the sides so this will make this area very private and intimate for abu and sharina
36:25while the team worked their magic with the detailing on the pond
36:35harrett and i filled the space with fruit trees and veg
36:39got red apple here cherry here and then we've got damson's over there so just getting the herbs and
36:46some of the veg into the bed i think it was a nice idea to anchor it with the crab apple but we've got
36:52vietnamese coriander as well as just you know our ordinary uh coriander so that that would be a really
36:58nice touch go swimming fishies with fish added to the pond the garden was ready to show sharina and abu
37:08do you want to open your eyes inshallah wow oh my god oh my god it's so amazing oh it looks like a show garden
37:27the once grey concrete garden was now full of produce and life a perfect urban retreat
37:34you've got your raised bed full of vegetables and herbs oh my god i can show off my garden that's
37:46that's all i can we finally got a garden yeah well you've never had a garden i've never had a garden
37:52but what do you think of the pergola i love the fantastic i love it i love the um metal work it's
37:59sort of quite modern but it is modern traditional at the same time that's what i like yeah that's
38:04what we wanted then yeah you're raised fish belt feel like taking a dip in this river
38:10oh my god yes you brought the fish in yeah thank you
38:15that's me today
38:18you know we just don't know how to thank you enough yeah it's it is it just looks amazing
38:24oh my god it looks so good and then we wander on down to the other end of the garden which is all
38:30the orchard fruits we've got a red apple and a damson because i know abu you said
38:36yeah the red and the green fruits yeah five a day
38:44five years on sharina and abu are still in birmingham and their garden has transformed
38:52the young planting has matured and sharina and abu are even more content with their space
38:58do you still love the garden yeah do you i love it yeah i mean we've had it for a couple of years now
39:06and we've just got so much joy out of it haven't we the garden has given us a lot it's been like our
39:12sanctuary when we had the garden done the following year we both were working from home so it was it was
39:21like a godsend it was calming we were able to reflect it's just been amazing
39:34this garden went from concrete car park to urban sanctuary
39:39and now it's grown planting like the apple tree is even more productive than ever it was really
39:46quite small isn't it it's gone quite big and it produces quite a lot of apple more than that we
39:51can eat you can see like a lot on there now but we're gonna have to pick some out so they can get
39:56quite big yeah neighbors will be happy it's got quite a lot of apple this year so they'll be happy
40:01when you take them around yeah yeah garden rescue has started a newfound passion for both of us we're
40:09keen gardeners so every spring every winter we we just keep on top of it and just make sure we
40:15maintain it um and i think that's probably why it's thriving as well we just learnt along the way
40:21but now there's more to this garden than the plants and trees we brought in
40:27abu and sharina have been busy they've introduced their own planting like the acer tree and gooseberry
40:34and then we've got the little daisies we get a lot of color throughout the season
40:39and abu's been busy with the wood the team left behind at the pond area this is your favorite part
40:47of the garden isn't it the pond yeah i i enjoy seeing yeah watch the fish but you can see here
40:53because you built this bench and the bench over there and it's nice for me because then it's nice
40:59enclosed so i can sit here and enjoy the fish we've added in little cozy areas little nooks so it's nice
41:08for us to come out sit down it's inviting and we've still got the fish in the pond and that was a nice
41:14surprise for both of us so they're still there they're still thriving to be fair you do look after
41:19the fish in the pond so so that's your contribution to the garden it is it is abu's introduced shelving
41:27at the potting station too while sharina's added finishing touches to the pergola they were meant
41:37to rust weren't they and we left it for the first year and then i didn't like it so we just painted it
41:44um back to its original color and it looks much better we let it rust on the top which looks nice
41:51so we get a bit of both finding produce as well as peace was the reason the couple initially wanted
41:59their garden rescued and the produce area is thriving so we've got the original crab apple tree
42:07that charlie planted and look you can see so many on there and then we've still got the strawberries
42:12from what charlie left behind so we get a lot of strawberries started doing some spinach as well
42:18haven't you yeah this year we've put some swiss chard in we made a spinach curry it was very nice
42:24actually well that's that's the difference between shop-bought spinach and home-grown spinach yeah we're
42:29always interchanging the vegetable patch so we every year we're doing something new when we pick our own
42:35vegetables i mean you can tell that it tastes better than what you get from the shops because it's just
42:39fresh isn't it bring satisfaction to the cooking and to know that it's come from your own garden
42:51it's just been amazing you know we can't thank the team enough really yeah it's just bought so much
42:58thank you garden rescue it's been great to see the gardens we built looking better than ever
43:05but the joy for me is discovering how the owners have come to love them it's not just a garden that was
43:12built for them it's their garden now
43:34so
43:42you
