Tennessee Titans DT Jeffery Simmons said that he still feels strong and anchored despite losing around 20 lbs. Big Jeff had a strong offseason as far as body rebuild, and has never been this lean in his entire professional career. Simmons is really excited for what is to come with this team and the new leadership behind it.

00:00I feel great man, I think everybody's been waiting on this moment.
00:05OTAs and many count what it was, but I've been saying that all day, football is officially back.
00:12It felt great to be back on the field, moving around with everybody.
00:15I'm sure y'all saw what we started out with on the defensive side, them down 40 up-downs.
00:20But, you know, that's just the mentality, you know, from what I saw from the guys,
00:26like, that's what we want on this defense, the mentality.
00:29We've got to bring that mentality back, no matter who we're playing against,
00:33no matter who we're lining up against.
00:34Right now, it's all our own teammates, but we've got to have that mentality
00:38that we're going to do it anyway.
00:40I'm going to say it's shit.
00:41I mean, it's football.
00:42You know, everything, when you step on that field, everything should be personal.
00:45I think at the end of the day, when you, well, this is my, I played sixth season,
00:50and my first three years I made the playoffs.
00:52Not making the playoffs sucks.
00:54But that should be personal.
00:55You know, we should come in, and our main focus right now is being better.
00:59But when that season starts, we want to, the first goal is win the division.
01:03And we have to make sure we're taking care of our division to be able to make the
01:07playoff and, you know, go to the big dance.
01:09So I think every time you step on the field, it's personal.
01:12Every morning I wake up, it's personal for me.
01:15Like, I want to be better than I was yesterday.
01:17And not personal against nobody on my team or in the league, it's for me.
01:20I think that's probably what, I'm not speaking for him, but that's kind of how I would look
01:24at it.
01:25You know, if personal is for guys who come in, who maybe got some contract year or whatever
01:30it may be.
01:31So, you know, I think you may need to ask him that on what he mean when he say personal.
01:35But for me, every day I wake up, I try to treat things as personal and attack every day.
01:40I was even, like, I came back a little lighter than I wanted to early on in this minicamp.
01:45But, you know, my goal just this last couple of weeks was to put body mass on, muscle mass.
01:51And I think that's what I did.
01:53So it's not even about the strength for me.
01:56I know I'm a strong person, a strong man, I would say.
01:58And when I'm out there, even then going minicamp, and I was 297, I'm in there holding on the
02:04double team against Peter.
02:06And, you know, then you go on the other side, you got JC, but he's 350.
02:10Like, you're going against a guy like that.
02:12Like, you know, that's how you test your strength, and I didn't feel like I lost any of it.
02:16So, and right now I just feel like I'm better, I'm stronger than I was in minicamp.
02:21What are the things that have been a priority during the afternoon?
02:23Most definitely, man.
02:24I think when you, when you play in this game, and for me, I'm going on year seven, and I
02:29have mentors like my uncle who played 10 years, and you talk about the longevity of
02:34your career, you talk about injury-free.
02:36I think that's where it starts at, taking care of your body.
02:38You know, me being heavy wasn't healthy, no matter if it's just an elbow or whatever
02:43it may be.
02:44You know, inflammation, I end up hiding nutritionist, you know, do blood work, and you find out you
02:48have so much inflammation in your body.
02:50It's like, where is this coming from?
02:51So, when you clean up, I cleaned up my diet, I cleaned up everything, and just more healthy,
02:55I think that's what really took place.
02:58And, you know, the training is going to take care of itself.
03:00I've been playing football since I was five.
03:01So, just to be able to do that, a healthier me, I think that's what really feels great.
03:07And you got guys like J.C. who, you know, wasn't proud of his rookie year.
03:12You hear him talking about it, and, you know, he's talking about him cutting weight and see
03:15him out there moving so much better.
03:17I think that was God's priority to make sure they come into this season.
03:21Like I said, no one wants that feeling of last year.
03:23So, when you got guys committed to doing the small things, like taking care of their body,
03:29like after today, it was hot as hell.
03:30It's first day, up, downs, first day going against each other in five weeks.
03:35Go take care of your body.
03:36Put the right thing to your body, and I think that's what's going to be the most important
03:39thing, because a connected team, a team who stays healthy, that's the team who wins championships.
