00:00What I mean by that is it's an emphasis for us as well.
00:02Just like we emphasize trying to eliminate those negative plays and our execution,
00:09there is a leadership emphasis.
00:11And part of the reason I did what I did with dividing our team up into teams is
00:15there's no, now they're all accountable to each other on that team.
00:20There's a leadership that starts to grow because now each team has a captain and
00:23an alternate, and now you've got more people in leadership spots.
00:27One of the things I think is unique about the process is it allows those guys to
00:33start to find their own voices.
00:34And it's not about an offense versus defense.
00:38It's much more of a holistic team approach to it.
00:42We encourage these guys to spend a lot more time together,
00:44both in the building and out of it.
00:47It's been a focus for us, and I think you can develop leadership.
00:50I don't think leaders are necessarily just walking into a room ready to lead.
00:55I think there's skills you have to learn.
00:57You have to have the communication as a leader.
00:59You have to know your teammates.
01:00We spend a lot more time trying to get to know each other on a level that I
01:04think is going to be beneficial to fostering more leadership for more people.
01:09One of the things I tell our team all the time that I think is really important is
01:12a lot of times you ask people, how do you lead?
01:17And most people say, I'll lead by example.
01:21And my retort to that is there's really no such thing in pro sports.
01:25Leading by example is the expectation.
01:27That's your job.
01:28To be on time, to do what you're supposed to do, to work hard, to study, that's part
01:32of it.
01:33That's in contract.
01:34And so my challenge to our team this year was to do more of the things that require
01:40bringing people with you, making other people better.
01:42So leadership is something that we talk a lot about.
01:45It's a focal point of our off-season.
01:47And the idea is that you develop a team full of leaders.
01:49Everyone has different styles.
01:52But it's something that I think the more people you have that are comfortable in
01:55those roles and understand that it's more about how you interact with people and how
01:59you make people around you better, that part of it I think is something I'm excited about.
02:04How did you divide those four and how do you keep it going that way when you turn to
02:09offense, defense now?
02:10The four what?
02:11The four teams.
02:13Eight teams.
02:14Oh, sorry.
02:14Eight of them.
02:15And do you keep that going when you turn into offense, defense?
02:17Yeah.
02:18It's all, they're still also, you know, the cool part about it is, you know, you can
02:23earn points a lot of different ways.
02:24For example, let's say, defensively, Monty Hooker has an interception.
02:29That's a three-point swing for his team.
02:32But on his team is also the quarterback.
02:34And the quarterback threw the interception, so that's a minus three-point swing.
02:36So really, he's a net zero for his team for that particular play.
02:41But what it does is you see more communication, more conversation, more accountability to
02:49other folks around the team.
02:51And they get to know each other on a different level than maybe just offense and defense.
02:56You know, that's one of the things I think we need to do a better job of is just the
02:59whole team interacting more, you know, not just by position or by side of the ball.
03:04And I think so far it's been a lot of fun.
03:07I think the guys have enjoyed it.
03:08And I think it's also grown those leadership qualities, those accountability to each other
03:13as opposed to, you know, just trying to be the best offense or the best defense that day.
03:17Thanks, Coach.
