Tennessee Titans rookie WR Elic Ayomanor spoke to the media following today's minicamp practice. Ayomanor says that he models a huge part of his route running and game off Calvin Ridley, so being able to work directly with him has been a blessing for him.

00:00I mean, I guess you just take what the defense gives you.
00:04Maybe today they were giving us a little field, so that's where we're working.
00:07But that's not to say that we can't work outside the numbers as well.
00:09Whatever the defense gives you, that's where you should be taking.
00:12And so we're completing the ball, that's a good time, I would ask you.
00:15What do you do from the time this mid-camp ends until training camp begins?
00:19And I guess probably want to relax, but you know that you got to get geared up?
00:24Yeah, I guess so we have rookies get off on June 20th.
00:28And so I'm going to have an apartment out here after that, we're in a hotel right now.
00:31And I'm just going to stay out here and work with the strength staff,
00:35try to get some sessions in with Cam and all the other offensive guys.
00:40Yeah, I mean, you just keep working, right?
00:41You have to build as a rookie, you don't really know anything yet.
00:45Like you don't know anything, so you got to keep going every single day.
00:48Some of the vets, they have a really good sense for what they need to do and
00:51they might need to take some off there.
00:52But for us, we're just going to keep going.
00:55You talk about vets, having a guy like Ridley.
00:58How much does the sense of urgency he practiced, like how much has that rubbed off of you?
01:02It's kind of made you like, hey man, I got to go get into it.
01:05Yeah, I think the way he runs the routes is his body language is always vertical, right?
01:13Yeah.
01:14And that's something that you have to intentionally practice every day.
01:17So every time I go back and watch the film after practice, I see that.
01:20And then I look at myself and I got to say, am I doing the same thing?
01:23And so every day, hopefully I can say, hey, Rid's doing this.
01:27I'm right there with him, doing the same thing.
01:28So yeah, it's been great.
01:29And then last week, I said to you, you sell the nine on every single route you run.
01:34Why do you think that is?
01:34Is that what it is?
01:35That's exactly why it is.
01:36Because, I mean, you probably heard it in, if you were watching our indie drills, he was
01:40saying something to me during the first part of it, because sometimes in the beginning
01:44of practice, I got to get that cue.
01:46So I'm like, oh, every time I got to keep, so yeah, yeah.
01:50A couple of big grabs today.
01:51How much does your confidence keep growing each time that you make a catch that maybe
01:55feels like you're back at Stanford again?
01:57Yeah, I mean, it's honestly been a smooth transition.
02:00Like, I feel like I just keep doing what I think that I, and I know that I can do.
02:05But obviously making plays is going to give you extra confidence.
02:07But I think to make the play, you just got to prepare.
02:10And so for me, it's all based on, did I prepare what for this day?
02:13And I think every day that I've been here, I've been putting my all into preparing for
02:16the practice that's coming up.
02:18How's the sessions with Cam?
02:19Are you among those guys getting here bright and early?
02:22Perhaps, perhaps.
02:23How helpful is it to kind of, to help stay on track?
02:26Or, you mentioned, your rookies, you don't, you're still learning what you don't know yet.
02:31I think the biggest thing for me is, hey, like, how can I get on the same page with how
02:35Cam sees the field?
02:37Because we might have, we installed with the offense, all right, now we're all on a similar
02:40page.
02:41But sometimes, on the fly, things change.
02:46And to be on the same page with how your quarterback sees it allows you to make plays, but it might
02:50be a little bit off script, you know what I'm saying?
02:53What do you do?
02:54Exactly.
02:55What do you do in the time you guys are in the building for coaching?
03:00It's a combination of things, whatever you need that day.
03:03So, like, if they were maybe were late on the script last night, we'll go over the script.
03:06Hey, what do we got?
03:07We're here, this is from Cam, right?
03:10And if we're all getting squared on the script, we might watch some game film, just so we can
03:14see how, when things get off script, hey, what do I want you to do on screen with you?
03:18Hey, like, how do I want you to, if the middle field is open and we got a vendor, do I want
03:22you to look now or look later?
03:23Just stuff like that.
03:24And that game film was from Titans last season?
03:26Yeah, yeah, we watched all the games from last season, just to get a feel for it.
03:31Because obviously we know the playbook now, so when we had the cut-up up, we can be able
03:34to know the plays.
03:35So, yeah, we've been through all that stuff.
03:37Are you rooting for the Oilers in the finals?
03:39Yeah, I mean, naturally, right?
03:41But I'm from Southern Alberta, so I would be a Flames fan by default.
03:45But when I was growing up, I watched Patrick Kane, so I'm a Blackhaw fan.
03:49I wouldn't have guessed that.
03:50Yeah, yeah, right.
03:51So you played hockey until you were how old?
03:5312, 13, around there.
03:56Is that just kind of where you're from?
03:58That's just kind of what everyone...
03:59Yeah, I mean, you start when you're like four years old, and then everybody wants to
04:03go to the NHL, right?
04:05I'd say that's just the sport you play, yeah.
04:08From a scouting standpoint, one of the only knocks on you was just kind of some random
04:12drops.
04:13Do you feel like that's fair, and are you doing anything to change the way that you
04:17approach catching the ball at the next level?
04:20I think you're constantly trying to improve on any deficits that you have.
04:27So I'd be lying to you if I told you that I wasn't trying to work on every single aspect
04:30of my game that I recognize as a weakness.
04:33So it's a constant thing that you've got to come in.
04:35Like I said, you've got to prepare like it's a final test every other day.
04:38And so I work on it every single day.
04:40Everything.
