Kyle Crabbs discusses the recent announcement of Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis undergoing season ending shoulder surgery and talks about the potential impact this could have on the backup QB market
Transcript
00:00Quarterback Will Levis officially out for the year in a development that could turn the summer quarterback market on its ear.
00:10I'm Kyle Krabs with A to Z Sports and Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis is officially down for the count in 2025.
00:17He's elected to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery on his throwing shoulder from an injury that he suffered early in 2024.
00:25Now, it's an unceremonious end to Levis' season, but it does set the Titans up to give the number one overall pick, Cam Ward, firmly the reins without having to veil any quarterback competitions throughout the course of training camp.
00:38But it does potentially put the Titans into the backup quarterback market.
00:43There's not a lot of names available on free agency that really grab your attention.
00:47The top name's probably Carson Wentz.
00:49Teddy Bridgewater came out of retirement last year to sign with Detroit.
00:53That's potentially another name from the veteran's standpoint.
00:57But you look across some of these other quarterback rooms across the league and you see some overpopulated rooms that could potentially have the right name for a team that wants to get something for a player that they might otherwise cut.
01:10And Tennessee will have to decide if names like Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle really wet their whistle as far as what their backup quarterback situation is going to look like.
01:20But you could potentially see a name like Jameis Winston, who signed a two-year, $8 million contract available for someone.
01:27Not to say he's the right fit for Tennessee, but remember, the Giants signed Russell Wilson as well and then maneuvered the NFL draft and drafted Jackson Dart.
01:36Makes Jameis Winston's presence in the quarterback room probably a little bit redundant.
01:40The same could go for Kenny Pickett in Cleveland.
01:43Kenny was traded for the second time in as many marches, going from Philadelphia to Cleveland to play what was scheduled to be the last year of his rookie contract.
01:53But then the Cleveland Browns drafted two quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL draft to go along with Joe Flacco, who is probably looking at the inside track to serve as the starter.
02:03So the question is, are the Browns going to carry four quarterbacks?
02:07Are the Giants going to potentially carry four quarterbacks?
02:10And if the answer is no, and the Titans or somebody else doesn't like what their backup quarterback situation looks like, could you potentially see somebody move?
02:19Tennessee introducing themselves into the backup quarterback conversation at this point after this development with Levis could potentially help create a little bit of extra demand
02:28and potentially have us see a backup quarterback traded at some point between now and cutdowns at the end of training camp.
