A former Metropolitan Police officer who was jailed for instigating an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl has had his sentence tripled.

00:00Che Homersham's original prison sentence of six months has been increased by 12 months
00:07after the Solicitor General Lucy Rigby referred it to the Court of Appeal
00:14under the unduly lenient sentence scheme.
00:17Homersham was originally sentenced at Southwark Crown Court in May
00:23after admitting to abusing his position as a police constable after he attempted to instigate a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl.
00:35He first met the victim who can't be named for legal reasons while responding to a domestic incident involving her mother in North London in December of 2018.
00:48Homersham, who is from Southgate in North London, took the girl's personal details including her telephone number
00:57and called her the following day, saying he needed to take a witness statement.
01:05The former officer then drove the girl to the Harrow viewpoint and asked to kiss her, which she refused.
01:14His inappropriate relationship continues with the teenager over several years, including by making inappropriate advances and sending inappropriate text messages.
01:29Texts to the victim were uncovered when Homersham was arrested for a separate matter in August of 2023.
