00:03at the beginning of the season, how does it feel?
00:05Yeah, yeah, definitely.
00:07I mean, it's just awesome days of racing out there.
00:09You know, we're riding in some pretty challenging conditions
00:11and for the group to pull off the performance today,
00:13it just feels like we're growing and growing.
00:16So, as a group, we're super pleased with the momentum
00:19we carried out in New York,
00:20but getting to the European League with a win
00:22is something we're really proud of
00:24and looking forward to continuing to build from here.
00:26In that final, you started last,
00:28but you just fought your way all the way back.
00:30What was the key there?
00:31Yeah, a bit disappointed by the start, to be honest.
00:34I thought we had a little bit more time to kill in on that lured end
00:37than we ended up with.
00:39So, it was a bit frustrating to, I suppose,
00:41give away an easy start like that,
00:42but kind of knew what the course we were always going to be
00:45and with our hands, we just had to sail clean
00:47and pick the shifts well, which we did,
00:49and I'm really pleased the way the group did that.
00:52And the leaderboard overall is just getting tighter and tighter.
00:55I think you, yeah, you're right in the hunt at the top,
00:58but is every event going to count to the end, do you think?
01:01Yeah, I assume we're topping it now.
01:03But, yeah, I mean, it's going to be super tight.
01:06I mean, part of the race is to make the top three come the end
01:09and part of the race is to be as good as you can when you do.
01:12So, yeah, we're definitely juggling those two goals
01:14and trying to make sure we really utilise each of these events
01:17to keep pushing forward.
01:18and probably different conditions today than what you'll see in the Middle East.
01:23But, yeah, really pleased with the way we fought.
01:26Thanks, Pete.
01:27Cheers.
01:28Dylan, awesome job making the final after the last couple of events,
01:31but I imagine it's a little bit bittersweet coming in second.
01:34Yeah, certainly, you know, disappointed to not be on that top step
01:37in front of our home crowd having won the fleet racing
01:40and really felt as though we sailed well all weekend, solid starts,
01:43good boat handling, going fast.
01:45But, you know, there's lots of jeopardy in SailGP and that's sometimes the way.
01:48And that final, you know, lots of lead changes throughout.
01:52What was it about today that made it so tough?
01:55Quite shifty and patchy.
01:57I think that last race we had a big out-of-range shift,
01:59which sort of made the course very one-sided,
02:01which was kind of frustrating with limited options.
02:04But we gave it everything and, you know, we thought we might have had a nibble
02:07at the Kiwis at that top gate, but it wasn't, unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough.
02:11And what has changed for you?
02:12You know, the last couple of events were a little bit tough,
02:14but you've really come out firing this weekend.
02:16What's been the difference?
02:17Yeah, the team's really gelled and worked well together
02:19and it feels like we're back to our normal selves.
02:22You know, we had a couple of off-events and this weekend,
02:25we know that's how we can sail.
02:26And if we sail like that for the rest of the year,
02:28we'll be where we need to be in Abu Dhabi.
02:30Now, obviously, you want to be winning events,
02:32but you're definitely in the hunt for that Abu Dhabi final.
02:34That must feel good.
02:35Yeah, I think we've clawed back a little bit on that overall season board
02:38and we're maybe one point out of the top three.
02:40So, yeah, just keep chipping away.
02:42Seb, congratulations on making your first final.
02:44How are you feeling about that?
02:46Yeah, super proud and happy you've made the first final.
02:50I think we deserve it.
02:51We worked really hard as a team and, yeah, we sailed well all weekend
02:54and, yeah, a bit of a shame to end up, you know, having to stop that final.
02:58We had some technical issues, but we had an awesome start also.
03:01So, we showed we were there and, no, I'm looking forward for the rest of the season.
03:05What do you think the difference has been for your team to be able to, you know,
03:08win races, make finals here in Portsmouth?
03:10Yeah, it's a good question.
03:11I think, you know, we're not better than in the last events,
03:14but I think we're just, yeah, putting the process in place
03:17and learning how to work as a team.
03:19And I think that's the difference.
03:20At that level, it's really small details that make a big difference.
03:23and I think we're starting to, yeah, to understand better what's needed to be in the front in SailGP.
03:29And, you know, you had a great start to that final, but something happened.
03:32Can you talk us through what went wrong with the boat?
03:34Yeah, so we started the race, had a great start,
03:36and then we started to have, you know, some control issues.
03:40The board drops were really slow.
03:42Then we lost the jib functions and, in the end, we couldn't move the wing anymore.
03:46So, yeah, we couldn't tackle jibes.
03:48So, yeah, unfortunately, we had to pull out of the race.
03:50But, I mean, it's part of the game and, yeah, we'll have to be back in the final to try and win it.
03:56Tom, obviously, it was a pretty rough day out there for you.
03:59Could maybe talk us through what happened with that incident with Canada?
04:02Yeah, well, we obviously didn't even see Canada.
04:05They're not sort of in our vision. They're three boats apart.
04:09I've just seen the footage now and, for me, I'm still shocked that we got the penalty.
04:15GBI didn't even attempt to jibe.
04:18If they went board down and tried to jibe, we've got to avoid, but they didn't.
04:21They kept their board up and they wanted to go left turn and try to cross.
04:24That's not our fault.
04:26Yeah, so that sort of cost us the finals and, yeah, another baffling decision.
04:34Finishing fourth, obviously, just missing out on that final,
04:37but still well in the hunt for the overall.
04:40Yeah, the overalls look good.
04:41I mean, I'm not happy now, so I'm just being honest.
04:44And I think there was multiple times there where we didn't quite execute like we know we can.
04:50And we felt like we should have been right at the top of the fleet,
04:53not sort of battling for that final spot.
04:56But hats off to the teams that made it.
04:59And, yeah, it was tough conditions and they did the best job.
05:02It looked like everyone was sort of making mistakes out there.
05:04Do you think that's because they normally had any training leading to the weekend?
05:07Yeah, exactly. We keep getting cut in training time.
05:11Even before the race, we don't get time to warm up.
05:16And so it gets harder for us to perform and the races get looser and more incidences happen.
05:22Absolutely. No, we didn't. I think we deserve what we got.
05:27We had some good starts, bad starts.
05:30We did some very good things, but mistakes as well.
05:34So, yeah, got the fifth place, which is the best for the moment in our history.
05:41So, pretty happy for the moment.
05:44Yeah, we're gonna keep on working between events as we did previously after New York.
05:50Of course, New York was not great for us.
05:53Here we did quite better and we can't complain.
05:57So, yeah, we're gonna keep on working as we did before and keep on doing the good job.
06:05It was a hard weekend for us, a lot of ups and downs.
06:08We feel like we made many mistakes.
06:10I mean, we were doing good things, but many mistakes.
06:13And today we had also a big one, a big crash on the second race where we broke our fairings,
06:20our wings stopped working.
06:22And I think we did a good job to make it into the last race and at least get some points.
06:28We fought as we could and, yeah, as I said, up and downs.
06:34But overall, we are happy with how we fought back.
06:38Obviously, a tough day for us.
06:40It was a bit better than yesterday, but it's not where we want to be.
06:43I mean, we want to be fighting with the top teams as we were last season and also earlier this season.
06:47And we're not at the moment.
06:48We're sort of fighting to not be in the lower pack, in the middle of the pack,
06:51and we need to fight our way out of there.
06:53So, yeah, tough race course, but it's more on us.
06:55You can't blame the race course.
06:56Everyone has the same conditions and the same marks to go around.
06:59It's just how they execute that.
07:01We raced a lot better than we did yesterday.
07:04So, in that regard, I think it was a bit better, a lot better.
07:07You know, we had a lot of work to do after the day yesterday,
07:11but we got some good races in there.
07:14The middle one, we were particularly annoyed with the way that that Leward gate panned out.
07:19We felt like we were really quite hard done by as a right-of-way boat,
07:24having to avoid a pretty monumental collision there.
07:28And, yeah, that put a little bit of a downer on our day.
07:31But, yeah, we'll go back and review that.
07:33And I'm sure Craig and his team will have some reviewing to do there as well.
07:38So, yeah, a positive step today, but, yeah, a disappointing weekend.
07:42Yeah, it was, I think you have to take things into perspective.
07:47We had a very good event in New York.
07:50And then coming here, it might have seemed like we had a really bad event,
07:55but I think we need to, like, acknowledge the milestones that we've been through with our team
08:00or the development that we've done.
08:02And it was a quite challenging race course with a very sharp turn on Mark 1.
08:08And it was quite hard for us this week.
08:11I'm very frustrated, I have to be honest.
08:13But, like, now that I had a few moments to chill out, I think we have to keep looking forwards.
08:20Well, yeah, happy to get racing, but it was super strange to get directly on a first reaching
08:32after the docking out at 50 knots with an unconditioning wing.
08:36It's pretty scary.
08:37So, yeah, it was super nice to race, but on the other hand, yeah, it was a different feeling.
08:45Yeah, I mean, in general, it was very special to have this long reach out to the course, which was, in the breeze, quite fun.
08:55We expected today to be a little more breezy even, but, yeah, great conditions.
09:01I think the race course was a little offset, which was a little unfortunate because, in the end, you know, there was no real lanes to overtake much.
09:11You know, and we suffered a bit from that because we didn't start where this event.
09:16Yeah, and today, another day, we had bad luck in the last one.
09:22But apart from that, yeah, happy with the racing itself, not happy with the starts.
09:29And, yeah, looking forward to getting home to the Zasnet home event.
09:34Yeah, a bit of a frustrating day for our team.
09:37We went out there.
09:38We had a really good warm-up, and we were feeling pretty confident.
09:41And then we had an issue with our starboard board, and so we had to get the tech team in, and they tried to diagnose the issue and fix it as fast as possible.
09:49But, unfortunately, that caused us to miss the first two races.
09:53And we made it kind of last-minute for the third race and tried to fight as hard as we could.
09:58But, yeah, overall, pretty frustrating day, but, you know, it could happen to anybody, so you just kind of have to be ready for it.
