The Minister for Legal Migration has admitted she is "concerned" about rising tensions in communities amid ongoing protests. It comes as eight police officers were injured following a demonstration in Epping last Thursday. Seema Malhotra said the government plans on investing "billions" as part of the plan for change to bring investment to "the most deprived parts of our country".

00:00I'm concerned about the tensions that we have seen and I think this is part of a wider story
00:05about how we make sure that we diffuse those tensions, increase community cohesion and work
00:10with communities where there are concerns. What we saw this week was the Deputy Prime Minister
00:17also outlining the results of a year-long piece of work, looking at what is causing dissatisfaction
00:24and also lack of confidence that people might have in their communities and in their services.
00:28And that comes on the back of seeing the economy decline, it comes on the back of seeing public services decline
00:34and also resources being pulled away from our communities. People saying that they don't see police on their streets
00:40seeing that we've also got rising lack of attendance at our schools. That's why what we've got to do
00:47is to listen and to work with our communities and it is why as a result of that work and ongoing listening
00:53that we are going to be looking at investing billions as part of the neighbourhood plan, as part of our plan for change
00:59to make sure that we're working with communities, listening to their voices and bringing the investment
01:03in some of the most deprived areas of our country where we've seen the greatest tensions.
