Sir James Cleverly has returned to the Conservative frontbench as Kemi Badenoch announced changes to her shadow cabinet. Addressing the reshuffle during a visit to a housing site, Ms Badenoch said Mr Cleverly is "a very experienced member of the parliamentary party" who agrees with her position on the ECHR. "I wouldn't bring someone into the shadow cabinet if they didn't agree with me," she added. Report by Kennedyl. 00:00Well, James Cleverley is a very, very experienced member of the Parliamentary Party.
00:05We had, at Arga, sadly, have to step down for health reasons,
00:11and that meant having an opportunity to put people in different roles
00:15where I think they'll do a fantastic job,
00:18and James is one of those people who I think will do a fantastic job.
00:20James and I have always had the same position on the ECHR,
00:25and that is that if we need to leave, then we should leave,
00:27but it's not a silver bullet.
00:28And that's why we have a commission on this very issue,
00:32which we'll be reporting at Party Conference.
00:34So I wouldn't bring someone into the Shadow Cabinet if they didn't agree with me.
00:38James Cleverley is someone I've known for many, many years,
00:40right back to when we were on the London Assembly.
