00:00Loan sharks are now resorting to using individuals posing as mistresses to mentally harass debtors
00:09and their families in what appears to be a new and disturbing debt collection tactic.
00:15According to MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Sri Michael Chong, this
00:21disturbing trend came to light after a woman lodged a complaint claiming that her family
00:26had been harassed for over a year.
00:28At a press conference at Wisma MCA on Tuesday, Ng, age 32, said a woman claiming to be her
00:35father's mistress had been relentlessly harassing their family since June last year.
00:40The woman alleged that Ng's father, a durian seller who works outstation and rarely returns
00:45home, had borrowed money from her.
00:47She even produced a loan agreement bearing his name and demanded 300,000 ringgit from the
00:52family.
00:53Ng said the woman made a single appearance in July last year when she showed up at her grandmother's
01:00house to demand repair.
01:02each time the woman contacted them, Ng claimed that loan sharks would soon follow, further
01:08escalating the pressure.
01:16Ng also revealed that the family had already repaid 150,000 ringgit to 30 different loan shark groups, allegedly on behalf of her father, whom she described as a habitual borrower.
01:45Ng said the woman is likely collaborating with loan sharks rather than being a genuine mistress.
02:03If that is the mistress and if the father really borrowed the money, I think it's right that the father should take account, should be accounted for, to pay back the money.
02:13Because now also he is not sure, suddenly 300,000, suddenly 100,000, suddenly 200,000, don't know how much, also doesn't know.
02:21So, he hoped the father come back.
02:23So, at least, we don't want to weaponize the mistress, we don't want to weaponize him.
02:29You borrow people's money, you must return.
02:31That is the thing.
02:32So, we hope the father can come forward.
02:34Meanwhile, the family will take it.
02:39This is not a mistress, but she's an alum.
02:43They use the tactic to collect the money, to force the deforter to pay.
02:47The victim, I mean, force the deforter family to pay, where they are actually a victim.
02:54Ang said the family has lodged two police reports over the matter.
02:59Chong also urged families facing similar harassment to immediately report such cases to the authorities,
03:05rather than giving in to intimidation or settling debts they are not responsible for.
