00:09abusing her husband to pressure him into paying off the substantial debts.

00:16According to a press conference held on Friday by Koh, a 47-year-old businessman from Kajang,

00:21Selangor, and MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong,

00:27Koh explained that his wife, Tan, had connected with a man claiming to be from London, England

00:32on social media earlier this year.

00:34The two quickly developed a romantic relationship.

00:37The scammer, known as Alex Peter, promised to invest RM50 billion in a water theme park

00:42business in Malaysia, and to settle in London after marrying Tan.

00:46He also promised to buy her a private plane to travel the world.

00:58Koh revealed that he had been harassed and threatened by a Ah Long, or loan sharks who

01:03warned him they would kidnap his children.

01:05Despite the family's attempts to advise Tan that she was being scammed, she remained deeply

01:10infatuated.

01:28Tan, who has a history of mental illness, became violent toward Koh when he refused

01:34to provide more money, even physically assaulting him.

01:37Koh also discovered that Tan was engaging in intimate conversations with another individual

01:43claiming to be Dr Winnie Hu.

01:45He learned of the affair earlier this year, and Tan initiated divorce proceedings in June.

01:51They have been separated for six months, and divorce proceedings are ongoing.

01:55Koh filed police reports in September and November regarding his wife's assault and

02:01the harassment from loan sharks.

02:03Chong stated that since January, he has received 10 love scam cases.

02:25He warned that scammers often take months to build trust with their victims before demanding

02:40repayment.
