The Merchant City Festival takes place as part of Glasgow 850 celebrations

Street performances, dance acts and live music at Merchant City festival.

00:00The Merchant City Festival took place at the weekend, celebrating 850 years of Glasgow.

00:06There was street theatre, live music, circus acts, dance acts, market stalls,

00:11hosting local traders alongside street food vendors and family activities.

00:15The streets were closed off to allow the events to take place.

00:18There was a stage at the Social Hub and Dockyard Social organised the food vans.

00:22It was a successful weekend all around and was busy from Friday to Sunday.

00:26The sun did come out for much of it.

00:28A Mass Cayley even took place, which was quite the spectacle.

00:32So there are celebratory events on all year for the city's special anniversary.

00:36Next month, we'll see Piping Live take place in various Southside locations,

00:41the world's biggest week for bagpipes, involving concerts, workshops, talks and come and try sessions.

00:47There's the Govanhill International Festival and Carnival as part of the Irish Roots Project.

00:52This celebrates the significant contribution the Irish community has made

00:56to the social, cultural and economic history of Glasgow.

01:00There will be talks by local historians and artists, a heritage trail, Irish language and singing lessons.

01:06And then from October to November, the annual Glasgow will be taking place,

01:10which will include an 850 birthday party.

01:13Glasgow Ladies Beer Society is also working with multiple local independent breweries

01:18to release special edition beers, proceeds of which will be donated to a charity.
