Merchant City Festival. Friday 18 - Sunday 20 July 2025
Bringing arts, circus, dance, live music and more to the streets and venues of Merchant City, during Fair Fortnight.
The event begins at midday Friday with live music and storytelling at the Social Hub on Trongate, with ceilidh dancing lessons before a mass ceilidh on Brunswick Street from 4.45pm to 5.30pm. The Social Hub stage will play host to folk acts and sessions from 12 noon to 8pm. There will also be performances in the Ramshorn Graveyard.
The Hip Replacement Disco returns at The Old Fruitmarket at 7pm, with carriages at midnight. The Tron Theatre plays host to the St. Teneu Poetry Competition Awards from 7.30pm. Surge Festival Street Theatre will be held across the area on Saturday and Sunday, with performances including ‘Charlotte Brontë: Senseless Trash’, hosted by ‘Charlotte’ herself and featuring the sounds of Beyoncé; ‘Baby Gareth and the Norbert Nannies’, featuring a giant baby; and ‘Alien Aquatic’, which could appear at any time, which imagines what would happen if ocean plastic mutated into living creatures.
