00:01Tonight on the House Hunters. We are on the road. New parents Billy and Bronte
00:08need to up-size. Oh it's big. But with wildly different tastes. It gives me the
00:15will they ever agree on the ride home? You would be lost without me though. You're
00:33pretty erratic. You're pretty crazy. Hey my name's Billy. I'm Bronte and we are on
00:38the House Hunters in the Sutherland Shire. We met at work actually. Bronte's
00:43actually my boss in every aspect of life. What? I don't know. Fell in love at work. We had one
00:53night with a few too many red wines. The rest was history. When we first started
00:58dating Billy told me that his worst nightmare was to marry a girl, have a kid
01:04and just live in the Sutherland Shire and Billy is literally living out his worst
01:08nightmare. I'm quite enjoying it to be fair. Bowie's obviously now our biggest
01:16priority. Thinking about getting a new house, just thinking about space for her.
01:21We've definitely outgrown our apartment. I feel like we've got enough antiques in
01:30the house already, Bill. We are definitely opposite. Billy loves vintage. He loves antiques. Where
01:38are we gonna put that? I just love new, fresh, clean. Grey couch, shells on the wall. Live,
01:47laugh, love, big above the door. Ready? Oh! Please stop. Who's a dickhead? So what's top of the wish list for this conflicted couple?
02:03A patch of grass for Bowie to play would be amazing and I would love a good shower
02:09or a really beautiful bathroom and maybe already quite modern would be ideal for us.
02:14I like the idea of a renter and I will get the job done. Some potential to kind of
02:19grow a garden, some veggies and whatnot. There's light and bright and a bit of
02:24personality about it. 1.3 is our max budget. Obviously we'd love to spend more if
02:30we could but that's the budget the bank's given us and we're gonna try and
02:33make work. Yeah we can't go a dollar over. They're searching in Sydney's
02:42Sutherland Shire, 20 k's from the CBD. Host to friends, family and work. First up a
02:51townhouse in Miranda, less than 10 minutes from their current home in Cronulla. We're
02:57gonna be looking today at a three-bed, two-bath and two-garage space.
03:02I feel like garage space is everything we need in our lives. You and your 10,000
03:10surfboards. What's this one going for? This one's going for 1.3 so you know there might
03:15not be chilli margaritas and cappuccinos. Ooh, look at this.
03:25House number one, the premium townhouse. Ooh, I like it. I don't love it. I just think it's pretty. I feel like it'll be really beautiful inside, really clean and white and nice. No personalities.
03:41Guys, welcome. So good to see you. Billy, how's things? Thanks for coming
03:49down. All right, sweet. Excited? Yeah. Let's do it. So I'm really vibing that this is a Bronte property. It's modern, it's brand new and it's nice, but I know Billy's style. I know that he wants something a little bit eclectic. I've got a good feeling that she's gonna have to get Billy on board.
04:05I'm excited. Modern. It's very modern. White walls everywhere. It's a bit like an institution, isn't it? Sorry, Bronte, but I'm not sure Billy's a fan. Forget that it's white. Look how big the kitchen is. It is big. It'd be good to cook on. Gus is sick. Cool lights. Yeah. No, they're cool. It's ready to move in. It's going to be great for a family. Yeah. No, it's all right. Super modern, super clean, but it's kind of
04:35reminds me of being in a doctor's waiting room. All a bit clinical. I'm excited to see the bedrooms. Okay, there's carpet. Carpet is so good for Bowie. Yeah, it'd be good for her to be able to run around. So it's just two bedroom downstairs. There's one bedroom upstairs, two downstairs. Yeah, okay, cool. Would that be weird to be on a different level to like Bowie downstairs? It'd be good for sleep. All right, guys, come and have a look at the bathroom.
05:05Big shower. Oh, yes. Look, it's a rainfall shower. Look. Bougie. We could both go on to y'all. I love the shower.
05:15It has the clean, renovated, beautiful bathrooms. Such an important space. I'm very excited about that. Can you press this mirror? What is this? That is an LED mirror.
05:25Oh, wow. She's modern. I like that. I don't love it. It's definitely not my style of bathroom, but I understand it's your style.
05:35Okay. This would be our bedroom. All right. A lot of storage, but same thing. It's just all white. We've like, not even handles. It's just as much personality ripped from it as possible.
05:49That's a bit harsh, Billy. I really like it. And it sounds like Bronte certainly won over. Remember, we don't need to renovate. It's new.
05:58Yeah, it's easier with family. It feels fresh. It feels clean.
06:02I am a feeling person, though, and I'm not sure if I'm getting... This is my new bedroom.
06:08If it's too beige for you, that says something.
06:10Out of the beige, then, and into the green. Let's hope outside gives them both the feels.
06:20It's small, but it's sweet.
06:22Yeah. I would like a bit more if there was some natural timber. Like, we could have a bit of a deck out here and, like, a bit more personality.
06:28I feel like a little bit of grass will be nice for Bowie. That's definitely something we've been looking for.
06:33Yeah. No, that would be cool.
06:34And we've got to remember that not all places even have backyards.
06:37Yeah. I like that it would get the sun here, so you would have potential to grow veggies out here, too.
06:41I think this property ticks a lot of the boxes that I'm looking for. It has the outdoor living space. It has the clean, renovated, beautiful bathrooms. It's got a big kitchen.
06:53I don't love it. I'd rather have a bit of a more personality, a bit of colour. I feel like it's a bit of a carbon copy of every kind of other apartment just off the plan.
07:02But it's got a lot of natural light, and we could move straight in, which is definitely cool.
07:08At the next house...
07:09Sick!
07:10I wouldn't sleep in him.
07:11Can Billy and Bronte find common ground?
07:14We'd need to do the floorboards.
07:16Matter of opinion.
07:17Or has the train left the station?
07:20Who needs an alarm clock?
07:27My brother used to live there, actually. Her and Cato.
07:29Oh, no way! Really?
07:32In Sydney's Sutherland Shire, new parents Billy and Bronte are searching for a bigger home with their $1.3 million budget.
07:39But when it comes to property, they're chalk and cheese.
07:44Bronte wants a modern home with a sparkling bathroom and a lawn for baby Bowie to play on.
07:51Whereas Billy wants a fixer-upper with potential for a veggie patch and lots of vintage character.
07:59So today we're going to go look at a two-bedroom, one-bathroom, one-car spot.
08:10Yeah.
08:11Maybe a little bit smaller than what we'd been thinking about.
08:15It's so close to where we live now.
08:17Like, so close to all of our friends, so close to the beach.
08:20If it's closer to the coast, I would happily compromise.
08:24So the price of this one is 1.1, which is kind of well within our budget.
08:32Gives us a little bit more breathing space, I think.
08:34Yeah.
08:35Here we are.
08:36House number two, the compact townhouse.
08:47It's like a little rainforest.
08:48Yeah.
08:48It's really tucked away, hey.
08:50Like, there's so much greenery.
08:52My favourite buyers.
08:54So today we have a beautiful two-bedroom villa.
08:59On the outside, I'm liking it.
09:01It's got a bit more personality already.
09:02It's a bit eclectic, got a bit of personality.
09:04Should we go and check it out?
09:05Yeah, let's do it.
09:08Come on in.
09:10This place is sick.
09:12Straight away, a good feeling.
09:13I like the floorboards.
09:14They're a little bit weathered.
09:15Got some sun damage.
09:16That character's a big tick for Billy.
09:19I was just about to say that you'd need to do the floorboards.
09:25But a big cross for Bronte.
09:27It's not a worn-in look.
09:28It's like a needs-a-redo kind of look.
09:32Matter of opinion.
09:35So far, Bronte isn't sharing Billy's enthusiasm.
09:39Can the master bedroom win her over?
09:43Whoa.
09:46Sick.
09:47It's like a studio apartment.
09:48In itself.
09:50I really like the painted brick, too.
09:52Bit of texture.
09:53I feel like it gives it a level of warmth.
09:55That first bedroom, definitely my style.
09:58Definitely probably not as much Bronte style.
10:00This is actually a garage that they've converted into a studio,
10:04living room, or the master bedroom.
10:07This would make it the third bedroom.
10:09How do you feel about that?
10:11I wouldn't sleep in here, personally.
10:12I feel like it might need a little bit of renovations.
10:18Like, maybe the carpet, like, come up.
10:21So, inside hasn't exactly got Bronte's heart racing.
10:28Can outside do any better?
10:30Oh!
10:31Okay!
10:31This is sick.
10:34I really like what they've done with this.
10:35This is cool.
10:36I don't love AstroTurf.
10:37You hate AstroTurf.
10:38I don't like it.
10:39It pisses you off.
10:40It gives me the s***.
10:41Billy, you're on to a winner here.
10:44Ease up on the AstroTurf, mate.
10:48Oh, this is nice.
10:50It is quite a narrow backyard, though.
10:52Like, it's not massive.
10:54But at least it's handy for public transport.
11:00Right on time.
11:00Who needs an alarm clock?
11:03I think it is a little bit close to the train station.
11:05I think it'd be one of those things you notice for about a week
11:07and then you just not notice anymore.
11:09You get over it.
11:15Check out the bathroom.
11:17Yeah, I'm excited to see the bathroom.
11:18Oh, it's bigger than I thought.
11:19Oh, there's a bath.
11:21Yeah, we could actually give Bowie baths, which would be really nice.
11:25That's a positive.
11:26The shower.
11:27The shower's actually quite large.
11:28Like, if you change over a few of the fixtures,
11:30you could really modernise that, like, a little bit more for you as well.
11:36All right, last...
11:37Whoa!
11:38Little room.
11:39Wow, I get now why they made the garage.
11:42I understand, too.
11:43The main bedroom.
11:44Quite small.
11:45I think, like, this definitely hits a lot of boxes.
11:47It's, like, it's under budget.
11:49I feel like it's got a lot of quirks
11:51and a lot of things that definitely feel like a lot of us.
11:54It does have a backyard,
11:55which obviously there's things that we would want to change,
11:57but we would have the money and the budget to change that.
11:59I'm just a little bit worried about
12:01whether or not we'd have to then move again in a few years' time,
12:04just due to that same concern about space.
12:06So...
12:06Yeah.
12:06I'm on the fence.
12:08I do like it, but it's not that big,
12:09so I feel like I'm confused.
12:13Can the confusion clear in the final house?
12:17Oh, I love an en suite.
12:18Oh, no.
12:20Or will the bathrooms prove too much for Bronte?
12:24I'm not going to shower in there.
12:25Bronte and Billy are on their way to see the final house
12:38on the list of potential new family homes
12:40in Sydney's Sutherland Shire,
12:42close to work and where they both grew up.
12:46This time, they're in Caringbah,
12:48less than 10 minutes from Cronulla Beach.
12:50So we're going to see a house today.
12:53It's around the 1.3 range, so it's pushing it,
12:56but it is one garage, one car space, three bedroom.
13:01Three bedrooms.
13:02Two baths.
13:03Has a courtyard too.
13:06We'd be able to walk to work each morning,
13:07which would be cool.
13:09At least we'd have to never worry about being late to work.
13:11I'm sure I'd still give it a good nudge.
13:14It'd be being this close.
13:16Cute houses around here.
13:17It's got kind of like a nice family feel.
13:19We're pretty much in the dead centre
13:21of my parents to your parents.
13:22Oh, my God.
13:23Great babysitting opportunities.
13:27Okay, I think this is the block.
13:29It's quite big.
13:30Yeah.
13:31I like all the red brick.
13:35House number three, the tidy townhouse.
13:39It's massive, hey?
13:40Heaps bigger than I thought.
13:41It's really big.
13:42There's heaps you could do with the garden here too.
13:45Loki!
13:45Billy!
13:46How are you, mate?
13:46Great to see you.
13:47Good to see you again.
13:48Mwah!
13:49Let's go have a look, guys.
13:53Oh, it's big.
13:55Yeah, it is big.
13:57It's definitely more your style in terms of the modern white look.
14:01I don't love the floorboards.
14:03I think they're a bit light and bright.
14:04I prefer the dark, kind of antique-y floorboards.
14:07I like them.
14:08I think it makes it feel really spacious.
14:11So, both are happy with the amount of space.
14:14But while the modern styling's a big tick for Bronte, it's a no-no for Billy.
14:19There's a bit of work that we would have to invest, and this is at the top end of the 1.3,
14:23so we'd have to see if we didn't have the money to do that stuff.
14:26I like the balancerate.
14:30Oh, my God, Billy, look at this.
14:32Whoa.
14:34She's big.
14:37Sick.
14:37Who else is going to have this in their house?
14:39Not us.
14:41Billy, you can't be serious.
14:43I'm loving the chandelier.
14:45Oh, God.
14:46I think this is the main bedroom.
14:49Wow, big bedroom.
14:53Oh, I love an en suite.
14:56Oh, no.
14:57Yeah, I don't know.
14:58Oh, yuck.
15:00Yeah, the bathroom's weird.
15:03I don't like the tiles.
15:04I would just shut this door and pretend it doesn't exist.
15:08I hate the bathroom.
15:11Besides the bit of mould.
15:12It actually kind of smells.
15:14This bathroom needs to be stripped.
15:15You want to take a sledgehammer here
15:17and your white spray gun, don't you?
15:20This one's clearly not hitting
15:22Bronte's bathroom bling wish list.
15:26But there's always the family bathroom
15:29for relaxing and letting the day's stress just melt away.
15:33More grammar.
15:35I'm not loving the bathrooms.
15:39Damn, I wish they were just a little bit more modern.
15:42Ew.
15:43I clearly spoke far too soon.
15:46It's kind of a downfall for me at the moment.
15:48It needs so much bleach.
15:51I'm afraid of the bathroom.
15:55Oh.
15:58Bathroom.
15:59I need some work.
16:00That was kind of straight off.
16:00I'm not going to shower in there.
16:07With both bathrooms needing a major reno
16:10and this house at the top of their budget,
16:13the future costs might see this place out of the running.
16:17Oh.
16:19That's broken.
16:21Whoa.
16:23Wow.
16:23It's big.
16:26There's a bit of gardening work needs to do,
16:27but there's definitely lots of potential to get it done.
16:29Yeah.
16:30I guess it's a lot of space for Bowie.
16:32That's what she needs.
16:33I was kind of hoping it would be grass.
16:35Just out here.
16:37Come and have a look at this.
16:38Ah, yes!
16:40Oh, grass is greener on the other side.
16:42That grass is a massive tick for baby Bowie.
16:46This is cool.
16:47This is really cool.
16:48Yeah.
16:49I feel like he would get really nice sunlight.
16:52And we could have a swing in the tree for Bowie.
16:54With the rug down.
16:55I've always wanted a patch of grass.
16:58It's definitely ticking a lot of boxes.
17:01There's definitely some things that are worrying us as well, though.
17:03Like, it's definitely more your style.
17:05Definitely quite white and modern.
17:07Definitely some work that needs to happen in there.
17:09Yeah.
17:10So I'd be worried about spending at the top end
17:12of our budget not having the money to do that.
17:14Yeah, these properties left me kind of confused.
17:16I feel like it's spacious, it's light,
17:19the bedrooms are really big,
17:21and the fact that the bathrooms need renovations
17:23and, like, a bit of TLC outdoors.
17:25It just depends if we can even afford to do it
17:27and if we can live without those renovations done.
17:29Yeah, for sure.
17:30More you, if you're going to shower or not.
17:32Well, I guess I'll have to shower.
17:34There's a hose.
17:37What do you think?
17:38Time to decide.
17:39I loved it.
17:40In terms of me personally, it's not, like, 100%.
17:41Which one will become Billy and Bronte's family home?
17:46I don't know.
17:46I'm feeling more confused than I probably did before.
17:53In Sydney's Sutherland Shire,
17:55Bronte and Billy want to buy a larger home
17:58for their growing family.
17:59But can they agree on which one?
18:01Oh, it's a tough one.
18:05I don't know.
18:05This one's a really tough decision.
18:06I feel really torn about it.
18:07Yeah.
18:08Bronte wants a modern place
18:10with a lawn for daughter Bowie's playtime,
18:12while Billy wants a character do-er-upper
18:15with potential for a veggie patch.
18:19All right, let's discuss the premium townhouse.
18:23What do you think?
18:25I loved it.
18:26We want space?
18:28Yeah.
18:28Tick.
18:29Garden?
18:30Tick.
18:31Colour?
18:32Ah.
18:33Personality?
18:33Ah.
18:35Obviously, I loved the bathrooms.
18:37Clean, fresh.
18:39I do like that it has a backyard.
18:40That's cool.
18:41It'd be safe for Bowie out there.
18:42Mm-hmm.
18:43In terms of the move-in, it's easy for Bowie.
18:45Like, we could move in and live there straight away.
18:47In terms of me personally, it's not, like, 100%,
18:49but in terms of Bowie, it makes a lot of sense too.
18:51All right, let's talk about the compact townhouse.
18:55That felt like us even rocking up,
18:57like, bricks on the outside, some plants, some trees.
19:00Yeah, I did love the greenery.
19:01We love the location.
19:02It's right near the beach.
19:04Cool backyard.
19:06The main bedroom was converted from the garage,
19:08but that means that there is no garage,
19:10which means no storage.
19:12Yeah, we'd have to work around that.
19:14It was pretty close to the train track.
19:15Yeah.
19:16I didn't find the trains too annoying.
19:18I didn't think they were too loud.
19:19I'd sleep through anything.
19:21This one is at the lower end of our budget.
19:23It's at 1.1,
19:24so there is room to kind of really personalise and make it us.
19:28I think we would be saving money, yes,
19:30but I don't believe that it would be a forever home.
19:32I feel like we would be moving quite soon to gain that space.
19:36Tidy townhouse.
19:37I think it has the courtyard and the backyard
19:39that we've been looking for.
19:40Yeah.
19:41It's got the space.
19:42Space, definitely.
19:43The interior is definitely more you,
19:45the white walls and the floorboards.
19:46Although...
19:47I just feel like if we were to go with this house,
19:50the bathrooms is something that I would love to renovate,
19:52and I worry that spending...
19:54We're not going to have any money.
19:55Spending 1.3 is going to leave us really tight.
19:58Just have to cop it for Bowie to give her that more space,
20:01to give her that backyard and that actual grass patch,
20:04as well as that whole courtyard area.
20:07Looking at the three places,
20:08they're all so different and tick different boxes
20:10for both of us because we're so different.
20:12We're never going to get all those boxes ticked,
20:14so, I don't know, I'm feeling more confused
20:16than I probably did before.
20:19Well, Billy, it's make-up-your-mind time.
20:23Will Bronte get her hands on a turnkey modern home
20:26with Luxe Bathroom?
20:29Or will Billy get to put his stamp on the brick-fixer-upper
20:32with the cash left over after purchase?
20:37Or will Bronte take one for the team
20:39and shower at the Tidy Townhouse
20:41so the family can spread out in a bigger home?
20:45Yay!
20:47We bought a home!
20:50I can't believe we own this place.
20:51God, there's so much stuff.
20:53We bought the Tidy Townhouse.
20:55I feel like it had a lot of what we were looking for in a property.
20:58Yeah, it has the potential, it has the space for our family to grow.
21:02There's a bit of work that needs to happen, but we're in no rush.
21:06God, there's just so many containers
21:07and we don't even have a wardrobe.
21:09The house was listed for 1.3 and we paid 1.3.
21:13On the dot, which is good because we had no more money.
21:15Yeah, no money.
21:16So that's where we were cut off.
21:18Bowie, are you going to help us unpack?
21:20We compromised a little bit
