00:00Some think you always have an angel and a devil. Spidey, in the meantime, has got a symbiote on his shoulder.
00:05Here's a look at the Hasbro Marvel's Spider-Man Venom vs. Deluxe Spider-Man.
00:21Kids can imagine unleashing, venomized, web-slinging adventures and battles with their favorite Spider-Man heroes and villains.
00:28I think when he was looking at his paint and asked for a second coat, that's not really what he had in mind.
00:33Still, though, before we get everything dressed up on Spider-Man, let's take the tape measure, shall we, and see how tall the Venom vs. Deluxe Spider-Man stands.
00:40This guy was selling for the same price as the winged Venom that we've already had a look at.
00:44There was also a Miles Morales version of Spider-Man that had some green symbiote strands.
00:49I didn't actually find that one at the time that I shopped for this guy.
00:52Still, if I do get the chance to find that Miles Morales, of course I will be picking him up.
00:57Of course, a review of that will be finding its way onto this channel.
01:01Backing up, though, just a bit, Spider-Man's going to stand at three and three quarters of an inch in height.
01:06That's going to translate, though, to a figure that's nine and a half centimeters tall.
01:10You could really make the valid argument that the black-suited Spider-Man technically is a different body,
01:15because it didn't have any webbing sculpted into the plastic.
01:18Based then on that, you would make no argument that that's the same body, really, as the classic Spider-Man,
01:23except for one notable change.
01:25The one that's in the middle, actually, is doing something that the ones on either side can't say that they can do.
01:30He actually does have gripping hands.
01:32Two gripping hands, for that matter.
01:34Where both Spider-Mans on either side actually had a web-slinging hand and a gripping hand on the other.
01:39He has to have two in order to accommodate the symbiote strands that he's going to have for weapons.
01:43The figure, though, also in the middle, is going to be more than the ones on either side.
01:48Both figures on either side sell for $14.99.
01:51The one in the middle, because it has more of an elaborate armor, sells more for closer to the $25 price.
01:57It's a little bit more expensive, but you can see where the plastic budget went into.
02:01He isn't also the same price as the basic Venom, because the basic Venom would have been selling for that $14.
02:06However, though, he is the exact same price as the Venom that sports his wings.
02:10So I know this is going to be a hard sell.
02:11You're basically taking a figure that's $14, you're tacking on some extra plastic, and then you're charging about $10 more.
02:17Stay with me, we'll kind of look at the armor, and you guys can decide for yourselves.
02:21First, Spider-Man has all this extra armor that goes over top of his body.
02:25So first he gets a torso piece.
02:27Now this is a pretty soft plastic, so you don't have to worry at all about taking Spider-Man's head off first before this goes over top of his torso.
02:34It's got a very familiar Spider-Man symbol on the front that's actually been sculpted in.
02:38I think what's really neat, though, is that if you look on the tops of his shoulders, doesn't it actually look like it's Spidey hands or symbiote hands that are kind of reaching around the top, looking like they just want to envelop Spider-Man's entire body?
02:49I think that's kind of really cool.
02:51There is also a peg on the back of the body that accommodates a Venom head, or the closest thing to a Venom head.
02:56This is actually a little more of a harder plastic, although it's got still a little bit of give to it.
03:01If you look at this, though, there's a rectangle built into the plastic that you basically just take this and snap it onto the torso, just like that.
03:10This makes things a little bit easier, though, once you actually get this on Spider-Man's body.
03:14It stays on well enough.
03:15It doesn't stay on really good if you're playing with this.
03:18If you kind of move Spider-Man around, you kind of will find this falling off frequently.
03:22Spidey's little joined sidekick here, you can see there's Venom's face.
03:27It has no posability at all.
03:28It does have a tongue sticking out.
03:30It's really weird, though, that they chose to sculpt it the way that they did, because it looks like Venom's biting down on his tongue.
03:36Why would they have done that?
03:38Because if you normally look at Venom, any time he has his tongue sticking out, it's because his mouth is open.
03:43The moment you close his mouth like this, why would they have just chosen to have the tongue left off altogether?
03:49I think that's kind of stupid.
03:50I think also for the budget, though, of what went into this, asking collectors to spend the $10 more, I think it would have been interesting had they found a way to incorporate some head articulation, where you can move this back and forth.
04:02And if they had left the tongue off, if it was around that same size as this Venom here, it could have given you the opportunity to untap this one from the peg and replace it with the body here for Venom.
04:14So if you want to use this head sculpt instead of this one, I know this one's a little bit smaller, but it's just weird, though, that it looks like he's biting down on his tongue.
04:23The tongue, by the way, is a softer plastic.
04:25But basically what you're going to do, though, is you're going to take the existing body for Spider-Man.
04:28And you're going to take the torso piece, just fit it over top like that, and then you take yourself Venom's neck and snap it onto the back of his body.
04:36So that gives you this look to Spidey.
04:38Then you get all these, well, I say all these, you get these two extra arm pieces.
04:42I just dropped my Spider-Man.
04:43Let's pick that up right now.
04:45Oh, there we go.
04:46There we go.
04:46It's right over there.
04:47You get also these symbiote strand weapons.
04:50It kind of looks like they're daggers.
04:52I think that they would have worked a little bit better had they been this way.
04:56The way that they attach onto Spider-Man's arm, now I've retrieved the figure, is that this little loop has to clip around his hands.
05:04So you clip it around like that.
05:07Get it all on there.
05:09Why is it having such a hard time?
05:10It's just because I dropped Spider-Man.
05:12Get his hand around that, and then you just clamp this onto his forearm.
05:17Granted, though, it's not the easiest thing to do, but clip this basically around his arm.
05:21I was having an easier time doing this earlier.
05:24Clip this around with his hand, and then clip that basically onto his arm.
05:27Let's see if we fare better on this side here.
05:30So again, you just kind of open up his palm just a little bit.
05:33Get that.
05:34There we go.
05:34Get it around the loop like that, and then snap it onto his arm like that.
05:39So basically, Spider-Man has these long little appendages that stick out from his forearm.
05:45I mean, they don't connect at all.
05:46It really would have been nice if they had found a way to, so it looks like it's a continuation from his shoulder.
05:51By also the way that they've sculpted it, I really would like to find a way to attach it the opposite way.
05:57I mean, it really isn't going to work, but I think that these look a little neater,
06:01because it actually looks like he's doing the devil horns.
06:04Could this not have been a way that they could flip this around?
06:06Because I know you're kind of probably also looking at this, and I guess technically, too.
06:11You could take the hand and fit this around the handle that way, but then there's really nothing that it's going to sit against,
06:16unless you just kind of tuck it along the shoulder like that.
06:19Does that look worse?
06:20Does that look better?
06:21I know it probably looks a little worse.
06:24I actually just think it looks a little neater, though, if they had found a way to sculpt it this way,
06:28so it doesn't look like he's just kind of carrying around.
06:30It really does look like he's got himself a pair of, like, symbiote crutches,
06:34and Spider-Man has to kind of walk away from safety.
06:37Anyways, let's go ahead and just kind of remove everything for right now.
06:40We'll have to come back to this in a second.
06:41I did want to show you guys that this is basically using the same body as the Spider-Man from before,
06:46so we're just going to take all the armor off here.
06:48So if we bring in the original Spider-Man, to look at, really, the two molds,
06:53I would be hard-pressed to say that, really, one is that much different from the other.
06:56Like, the spider symbol on the back is exactly the same.
07:01The coloring of the plastic maybe is just a little bit of a darker red.
07:04Actually, the blue, too, is really a much darker blue than the lighter blue,
07:07and he also has a different symbol on the front.
07:09Now, this symbol was only really printed in,
07:12so it makes things a lot easier that they could just print any really symbol,
07:15any symbol, really, that they want.
07:17This is a much easier-looking spider.
07:19This would be the kind of spider you'd want to make friends with.
07:22This is a kind of spider, though, I'd want to stay clear of.
07:25In fact, actually, I found a spider that looked like this,
07:28although it was about the size of my thumb,
07:30inside my laundry room a couple of days ago.
07:32This thing was giant.
07:35I would like to have said that I would have trapped the spider and let it go,
07:38let it go on its merry little way outside.
07:40It didn't really end up happening that way.
07:42I feel like the spider lunged towards me,
07:44so I had to do the only thing I could have done.
07:46I just stepped on the spider.
07:48Am I jinxing my...
07:49I know that they say spiders bring good luck.
07:51A spider of this size, I don't think it's bringing any good luck to your house.
07:55The thing that's kind of cool, though,
07:56is that Spider-Man's eyes look like he's got his spider senses tingling.
08:00So it makes things a little bit different from one to the other.
08:02So I know you can clearly look at the two figures and know that they're the exact same.
08:06With a little bit of cosmetic changes, though,
08:09this one feels like it's a brand new looking Spider-Man,
08:11even though, again, I know it's the exact same body.
08:13Because it is, though, the exact same body,
08:15he's also going to retain the same levels of poseability.
08:18This Spider-Man does have a ball joint in his head,
08:19so it moves freely up and down.
08:21You can turn, really, the head all the way around.
08:24These arms also, because, again, it's using the same body,
08:27give you a T-pose option.
08:28You can take the arms and rotate them all the way around.
08:31All the way around.
08:32The figure does have a bend in the elbow,
08:33so it allows the forearm to rotate back and forth.
08:36Some sacrifices, though, have to be made.
08:38There's no swiveling, for example, in the hands.
08:40There's nothing you can swivel at all for the waist.
08:42But I don't feel like a figure for this price,
08:44even though, really, it's $10 more.
08:46I don't really think he necessarily needs to have those.
08:48He does have, at least, though, a hinge joint in his legs,
08:51so he can split the legs and do a Van Damme splits.
08:53You can take them and move them forward and move them back.
08:55A little bit of a swivel at the top of the thigh, not much, though.
08:58Single hinge in the knee, lower leg rotation,
09:01and no articulation at all in the ankles.
09:04He does still have peg holes in the bums of his feet,
09:06so it would be probably a good idea to make use of a display stand.
09:10These figures at all don't come and include with any stands.
09:13But if you had yourself a stand, like a McFarlane Toys stand,
09:15you could just basically attach that onto the bums of his feet.
09:18So I pose the question to you, viewing audience,
09:21do you feel like a figure like this is worth the price
09:23that they're selling him for?
09:25Keeping in mind, again, like he's essentially just using
09:27the same body as the classic Spider-Man,
09:29which was selling for $14.
09:32He was selling the same price as the black symbiote suit Spider-Man
09:35because he got somewhat of the same body.
09:37And really, he's also selling for the same price as the basic Venom,
09:41which, if you were looking at the budget,
09:43the budget, I think, they spent probably just as much plastic
09:46to mold Venom as they did for Spider-Man's weapons.
09:50Now, like with all these figures,
09:52they're kind of marketing them as the deluxe figures.
09:54So because of that, they tack on the extra cost.
09:57I mean, this Venom, at least you could make the valid argument
09:59because he has the larger wings.
10:01He's already a big figure to start off with.
10:03Spending $24 for him makes some sense.
10:07Just spending that same amount on this Spider-Man
10:09for really what little we actually get for that.
10:11I don't know.
10:12It's a little more of an uphill battle, I feel,
10:14to market a figure like this,
10:16especially when you have a peg space right above it.
10:19So essentially, when you're walking into a Walmart
10:21where I found these,
10:22the deluxe Venom and the deluxe Spider-Man
10:24were sitting on the shelves.
10:26And then the pegs just above it,
10:27you had the Spider-Man selling for $10 less.
10:30To look at this figure,
10:31to then look at this figure
10:32and see that they're exactly the same.
10:34Having all these extra things,
10:35as cool as they may be,
10:36I don't really feel it justifies
10:38the price difference that they do.
10:40I do actually like that this head sculpt
10:42is an extra piece that attaches onto the back of the armor.
10:45Still, though, it perplexes me
10:47why Hasbro decided to have his mouth closed
10:49when his tongue is sticking out the way that it is.
10:52Oh, it looks like Peter and Brock
10:53are having a difference of opinions.
10:55I'm sure there will be a difference of opinions
10:56when it comes to what the value should be
10:58for a figure of this size.
11:00When you're really looking at a figure like this
11:02on the shelf
11:02and know that it's selling for $24.99
11:04and then looking at a Spider-Man
11:06it's exactly the same above it
11:07for it's selling for down $10 less.
11:10Does it really then look at this
11:11and you just think to yourself
11:13that Hasbro is gouging the prices
11:14when a price for this figure
11:16should have been a little bit closer to $14.
11:18I don't think he should have been $14
11:20because he's getting a little bit more plastic
11:22to his build
11:22but I don't think he should have been $24 either.
11:25Meaning somewhere in the middle
11:26let's say $20.
11:28I think this line should have been broken up
11:30into three size classes.
11:32Your basic figures could have been selling for $14.
11:34Figures that had elaborate armor like this
11:36could have been selling for $19.
11:38And then you get a larger figure like Venom
11:39could have then been selling for $24.
11:41I don't think this guy should have been
11:43in the same price bracket as the Venom
11:45because he's definitely not worth it.
11:47What do you guys though think of the deluxe Spider-Man?
11:50Let me know down below in the comment section.
11:52Enough of an added plastic
11:53that he's worth the price he's being asking for?
11:56Or do you think that Hasbro's charging
11:57way too much for him?
11:59If you guys did also enjoy this video
12:00you can do it a solid throw to like.
12:02You guys want to stick around for more?
12:03So I hope so.
12:04We're kind of wrapping up things right now.
12:06Sad to say for Venom Versus
12:07but there will be more videos coming your way.
12:09So making sure you're coming back to this channel.
12:11As always, thanks for watching.
12:13See you guys next time.
