00:00In Tasmania, health and housing are always big issues in election campaigns.
00:08Tasmania spends about a third of its budget on health,
00:11and yet there are still thousands of people waiting for elective surgery
00:16and tens of thousands of people waiting to see a specialist through the public hospital system.
00:22And housing, like the rest of the country,
00:25it's become increasingly difficult for people to buy or rent a home.
00:30There are now 5,000 people, 5,000 households waiting for social housing in Tasmania.
00:37So health and housing come up pretty much every Tasmanian election.
00:41But this election we're also hearing a lot about the proposed AFL stadium at Macquarie Point.
00:49The ABC's Your Say page has been flooded with people wanting to talk on this topic.
00:54Some people are opposed. They say that Tasmania can't afford a new stadium.
00:59Other people support it, saying that health and housing are basically bottomless pits
01:04and that we need some reason to keep young people in the state.
01:09But there are a variety of issues that people will be thinking about when they cast their votes tomorrow.
01:17Here's a little bit of what some Tasmanians have had to say.
01:21Well, I'm a healthcare worker so health is certainly an issue.
01:25And I would have to say that the state of the budget is also an issue.
01:30I'd like to see a breakdown of their potential roles or potential deliveries and how they're going to fund it.
01:38Our health mostly, yeah.
01:41Yeah, it's been, we've been needing a lot of improvements to the health system I would say.
01:46I think it's always helpful if you see how they're going to help financially support families.
01:51Yeah, just especially because the younger families are struggling with the price increases and yeah, that'd be good to see.
02:01I think the stadium's a big one for me. I think that it's just a pretty sort of, it just strikes me as a pretty bad deal more than anything else.
02:10Like I love the idea of a stadium, I really love the idea of a team, but it just doesn't seem like the numbers add up.
02:16Definitely stopping native vlogging. I think that's well overdue and I feel like each election we go and protest for it and then nothing happens.
02:26So Fiona, what do you think is the most likely outcome after the election?
02:33Well Lorna, the polls are predicting another minority government for Tasmania.
02:38We went into this election campaign with the Liberals on 14 seats, Labor on 10.
02:43So both would need to pick up quite a number of seats in order to win a majority in a 35 seat parliament.
02:50Add to that the polls are also suggesting that the vote for independence is up.
02:54So whoever is in a position to form government after Saturday might need to do some fairly complicated negotiations with a crossbench,
03:05given too that both major parties support an AFL stadium at Macquarie Point,
03:11whereas the Greens and many of the independent candidates don't.
03:15So potentially some fairly complicated negotiations to do after Saturday's election, Lorna.
03:22Fiona, thank you very much for that and of course complete comprehensive coverage here on the ABC.
