After 11 years in opposition, Labor says it's ready to finally get out of the passenger's
00:08
seat.
00:09
We need a Labor government to deliver the fresh start that Tasmanians need.
00:13
Dean Winter announcing a freeze on registration increases, which would save the owner of a
00:18
four-cylinder car $15 a year.
00:20
We'll slam the brakes on so we can protect households, make sure that they're able to
00:25
pay the bills.
00:26
And halve registration costs for apprentices, like hairdresser Ellen Felmingham.
00:31
I could simply pay my bills and not have to be stressed out every night before I go to
00:36
bed thinking, wow, how am I going to keep the roof over my head and feed myself tomorrow?
00:40
The Liberals stuck with their health theme, fast-tracking the first stage of upgrades at
00:44
the Mersey Community and North West Regional Hospitals, building new inpatient facilities
00:49
and extra car parking.
00:51
All completed by 2030.
00:55
This is an investment of $174 million.
00:59
He has literally got no new ideas, so he's re-announcing the things that he promised to
01:04
do last year and didn't deliver.
01:06
New polling shows both major parties are struggling to cut through.
01:10
A survey of 1,287 voters by polling firm YouGov has Labor marginally in front at 34%.
01:18
The Liberals at 31%.
01:20
Independents well up from last election at 18%.
01:23
The Greens steady at 13%, with 4% opting for other parties.
01:29
I would see Labor as getting around 14 seats and the Liberals 12 to 13 and then the rest
01:36
spread amongst the Greens and other Independents.
01:38
So what we'll be looking at is a hung parliament with Labor as the largest party.
01:43
Labor's narrow lead, less than the polls, 3.4% margin of error.
01:48
I'd take no notice of the odds or indeed the polls, that's for commentators to make.
01:54
Commentators say the YouGov polling doesn't provide a complete picture as it doesn't take
01:59
the popularity of individual candidates into account.
02:02
But Tasmanians should have a better idea of how the contest is shaping up when other firms
02:07
release their polling in the next week.
