00:00footballing wise we know how important party is to us now i i want to believe that
00:04at his age no player at that age will have requested for 300k i'm sure that
00:10aston would have done their due diligence to know that okay now the question is how sure
00:14from asparte's future in football is a contentious debate so far is being involved in some legal
00:20issues and now his future is subject to a fair trial in court we discuss the aftermath of his
00:27departure from arsenal and everything that followed with that my name is available i
00:32bid you welcome to not make gear on guardian tv yes of course you're welcome to a fresh edition
00:42of the nutmeg and today it's a serious debate it involves a former arsenal midfielder thomas party
00:49of course we know is in a legal battle as we speak but then let's uh chronicle the issue
00:57on ground of course part of the bbc we understand that he's been charged with five counts of rape
01:03and one count of sexual assault between 2021 and 2022 this involves three women two counts relating
01:11to one woman three counts of rape in connection with a second woman and another count to a third woman
01:18and the ghanaian has denied the charges and has said he welcomes the opportunity to clear his name
01:25and these charges follow an investigation which started in february 2022 he signed a contract
01:31with arsenal since 2020 but that contract ended and on a monday and of course just four days later
01:40he was charged and of course that has said a lot of debate don't forget arsenal the club that is
01:46represented in the last five years and even within the time of this legal framework
01:51i've declined to comment and that's why we're debating now and of course i've got uh k and organ
01:58more serious conversation than normal and first of all from us party uh we understand this is a legal
02:06case and quite rightly if he's been charged he should be facing a hearing and a fair trial in court
02:14uh yes uh you know it's a very sad one believe me because if you look at party he's such an
02:21instrumental player for us now and uh unfortunately we have this case coming up you know him being
02:26been charged uh to rape and this is not the first time we're having footballers and you know allegations
02:32of rape and all that and then with initial report that um he has been you know battling this illegal
02:39stuff for quite a while now and that arsenal was doing this and all that you know i i feel like
02:44it's wrong from the angle of people thinking that okay arsenal were just like shielding him you
02:51know you know hold that for the let's get some thoughts from organ now organ the most important
02:58question on the show today is from a moral perspective how right was it that arsenal of course
03:08they must have known about this case whether or not he's guilty is a different topic but they must
03:12have known of this for this case has been on since february 2022 the time frame of these rape charges
03:19accusations is between 2021 and 2022 how right morally is it that they allowed this to happen
03:25and then just for this later after his contract ran out he was of course in the middle of this
03:31controversy for the first time publicly all right um so um definitely we know that
03:38that um is under a contract with arsenal and um you are supposed to as a as an organization yes you
03:48are supposed to support at least give support to a particular level to your employees which i feel
03:55that arsenal has done um to an extent we could say that they have done right however it does not mean
04:02that they should not look into the case i remember missing greenwood's um case in marchester united
04:10immediately due to the severity of how the case came out in that time it was um immediately stripped
04:18of training um shoot of a match plane he lost so many rights so many footballing rights as a matter of
04:26fact the way it came it's a peculiar case compared to that of party but the the club back then we knew
04:35many of the fans felt like they were not able to they did not protect missing greenwood so sorry
04:43sorry to cut you organ i'm going to i'm going to react to this question i was going to say that if you
04:47look at the scenario with uh missing greenwood what happened was more than domestic violence and and
04:52their differences because there was there were clips hard there were copy hardware yes i was going
04:58to have we haven't seen anything i was going to go there i was going to go there so the question is
05:04um as as now done well enough to protect exactly that's what that's what i'm coming to when you have an
05:11employee or you have a football player in this context when you have such player allegations against
05:18him charges against him what is the ideal response because i mean in the way as have acted this is
05:26why it's causing a lot of stare a lot of debate this guy right now four days after that contract expired
05:32his football future looks like it's gone it's done and dusted well i would say we shouldn't be in haste
05:40to actually conclude in that regard but what i want to say is let's look at it from this angle
05:45party was never named as the player in the whole of all these things until the charges
05:53again but that's that's also in the uk you wouldn't they wouldn't name what i'm saying is the the met
05:59police you know london metropolitan yeah i don't know i i i wasn't there but they never mentioned there
06:06were allegations there were rumors and i'm sure that aston would have done their due diligence to know that
06:12okay now the question is how sure because organ this is what if if it were something that was
06:16so old they would have like sanctioned him immediately if it's about because we also know
06:21there were reports just before his contract expired that negotiations were yeah his contract extension
06:27let's look at that let's hold that in that in that line let's just hold that in one place and then ask
06:33ourselves whatever from a starting must have been demanding i don't think would have been outrageous
06:40considering the fact that players like jaden sancho marcus rashford on the underperforming
06:45players like jack grealish i need so much more right even if you ask for 300 000 pounds i wouldn't
06:53think he's asking for too much so i don't understand what really happened but it just doesn't seem right
07:00morally from a legal perspective and then looking at the situation morally it just doesn't seem all right
07:08that party just four days after that and then you go back to clips in the past where michael
07:14anteta says he's a leader on and off the pitch is all of that and then we also know the importance of
07:19the player we are talking about as well to arsenal's successive second place finish in the last three
07:25years in the last five years it's been crucial to any kind of success that arsenal has recorded so so
07:31what i would say is this um footballing wise we know how important party is to arsenal and um i i
07:38want to believe that at his age no player at that age he will have requested for 300k um
07:46exactly so it should have been a fair negotiation and i want to believe that is ending i think about
07:51something so increasing it let's say maybe about 50 or let's even say it is possible that a player request
08:00for that high range but the circumstances of what is going on presently i feel like um they've had the
08:09the conversation of yes you you have an issue on ground who will protect you you take this amount
08:16oh no i am not guilty of these charges this is what i deserve this is what i'm going to request for oh if
08:25that is the case run your contracts down because i believe that for every footballing um organization
08:31they start discussing your contract extension not this season where it ends you know okay we really
08:38have to wrap it all right we really have to wrap up so you take your response with this question but
08:43make it very brief okay um what is the future for thomas party um we don't know what happens to him we
08:50don't know whether it's guilty or not at this point in time but what is his future considering
08:55how long the legal case could drive his football career also that on the line what do you think
09:01the future is it's not looking good sincerely it's not um it looks shaky it looks uncertain but at the
09:07same time i i feel like coming in from the angle of maybe as now have done the right thing or not
09:12they have done the right in my regard perspective but have they done it at the right time if you look at
09:18us now there was a change in in uh sporting director edu was there before there were there
09:23might be possibilities that they had a conversation so that speeds you know a lot of things happen
09:30behind this that we are not previewed to absolutely so for party it's quite unfortunate and i actually
09:35you know wish him all the best and i hope that he comes true if he is not guilty well for me i feel
09:40like um yes we can say that they've done the right thing but however you like you said is it at the
09:47right time now i believe that they've exposed him to whatever the uk um metropolitan times are going
09:54to do um now he's not under contract anymore anymore it just feels there is nobody to cover him yeah
10:02and i believe that that shouldn't be now now yes that's the concern but you know sorry before we go
10:08as it stands as well yeah asana has never released an official statement well whether that is that is a
10:14given whether i stayed there that is a given definitely we all know that oh yes so guys
10:19thank you so much i know we could keep on with this debate but then i wish from a spotty whatever
10:25happens if he is not found guilty we wish his football career you know all the best but then
10:30let the law take its full course as well thank you very much for watching this edition of the nutmeg
