The summer holiday is the highlight of the year for every schoolchild across the country, but with money struggles still gripping the UK, it can be hard for families to keep them entertained over a long six weeks without going over budget, we went out into Manchester to ask people for their view.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name's Theo Hewson-Betz and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester
00:04talking to people about the cost of childcare during the holidays and that's because as the summer holidays approaches
00:10families and grandparents who might be trying desperately to stretch their money during the school year
00:15are now faced with the task of keeping kids happy and entertained over the course of a long summer.
00:20I work for a charity so we work with disadvantaged children and a lot of what we do is doing things like that
00:25like going on days out and actually just exposing them to things like the cinema
00:29because like I spoke to a child the other day and like he was 11
00:32and he's only ever been to the cinema once before in his life
00:35because it's just so expensive so a lot of what we do is like
00:38I think there are options like most museums in this country are free
00:42most art galleries like are free and like lots of places like that do run like activities during the summer and stuff.
00:48Your son and his girlfriend they've got a little one and everything that they do like swimming lessons etc
00:55going to the zoo it is a lot of money for them isn't it?
