Recapping the MLB All-Star Game & the new rule format used

Last night’s All-Star Game was one for the books! From Kyle Schwarber’s clutch swing-off bombs to the National League finally getting a win, this was peak baseball theater. Shan and RJ broke down the historic swing-off ending and why stars like Ohtani and Judge weren’t chosen to participate. The automated strike zone made its debut, sparking plenty of debate and leaving fans wondering whether MLB should make it permanent.

00:00all right so a couple of things that that took place so one of these that that move obviously

00:20uh was a rob manford decision and there was another thing that was a rob manford decision

00:27and that was the automated ball strike system that we had in the all-star game that they implemented

00:34and this is rob manford on the pat mcafee show uh talking about that abs and this is what he hoped

00:42was the precursor to bringing this to the league we're gonna we're gonna use it tonight it's been

00:48using the minor leagues for several years and we tested it with big league guys in spring training

00:52last year we're in a process directed at bringing it to the big leagues next year the great thing

00:58about it that we didn't fully understand you know the rendition on the board afterwards is like a fan

01:10i mean it's weird i was actually out at the u.s open and you know i played a lot of competitive

01:22did play anyways i'm out at the open and all of a sudden i realized there's no linesman there's no

01:28linesman but what had misled me is they're still showing the rendition up on the board and you know

01:33made me realize there is entertainment value in that rendition that we need to take advantage of

01:39so i thought i did think last night that they when they showed um it was very quick it was very

01:46quick when they showed the replay i was like okay i could see how this is cool i could see how this is

01:52cool and again it's gonna have the problem is gonna be you are gonna lose somewhere along the way

01:56strike three of a world series yeah and that's what you're gonna lose and you're gonna lose the

02:01jubilation because the immediacy so we're never gonna go to this just calling every pitch there's oh it's

02:06gonna be a challenge challenge system it's you tap the helmet okay if you're the hitter um you know

02:12you can tap the helmet you tap your head if you're a pitcher whatever and and and what's you know

02:16there's gonna be limits to it you can't have a million challenges there's gonna be limits of this
