00:05:29Hmm. I see you've had a lot of experience cleaning private homes.
00:05:35Yeah, I've done lots of those.
00:05:38Well, an institution such as this one is a very different proposition.
00:05:43It's okay. I've cleaned schools and other large areas before, so I'm used to it.
00:05:48Yes, I've seen that. When I say a different proposition, I mean in terms of the sensitivity of what we do here.
00:05:58Of course.
00:05:59You would mainly be working nights at a time when patients are on lockdown, but many of our patients here have psychological disturbances.
00:06:14So you may find situations where you have to clean up things that you may not be used to cleaning up, if you know what I'm saying.
00:06:22I understand, yeah.
00:06:24Would that bother you?
00:06:25No, not at all. I have some experience.
00:06:29My mother got very ill, and I had to take care of her in every aspect of her lifestyle.
00:06:37So, you know, I had to learn very quickly, and it became routine, so...
00:06:43How is your mother now?
00:06:47Well, she passed away.
00:06:50Oh.
00:06:51I'm sorry to hear that.
00:06:53So, it's important to me that everyone who works here, whether they're a psychiatrist, an orderly, or a cleaner, fully understands what our mission statement at this hospital is.
00:07:10Okay.
00:07:10High Hopes was built only two years ago, and as an institution we have been running for just over a year now, so we're still building our reputation.
00:07:22But I am very clear what I want that reputation to be.
00:07:25That's why I've invested my own money into this institution.
00:07:30We may only just be starting out, but we have a long-term ambition to make this institution one of the foremost centers for mental health treatment in the country.
00:07:42So, what I require from everyone who works here, in whatever capacity, is that they are sensitive to the needs of our patients.
00:07:54Unlike some institutions, here the welfare of our patients comes first.
00:08:01I admire that. I really do.
00:08:03And if I had this job, I wouldn't let you down.
00:08:06I'm sure you wouldn't.
00:08:11I don't!
00:08:12Oh my God! Oh my God! I'm so sorry! I'm sorry!
00:08:16It's quite all right.
00:08:18Please sit down, I can stand.
00:08:20I'm really sorry.
00:08:26Yes, well, thank you for coming in. I'll let you know.
00:08:33Thanks.
00:08:36Hello.
00:08:55Hey, hon.
00:08:56Hey, Nancy.
00:08:57How did things go today?
00:09:00Uh, it was a total fucking disaster.
00:09:03Oh, I'm sure you're just being silly, hon.
00:09:05I know whenever I go to interviews, I always leave thinking it's gone really badly.
00:09:08I'm sure it went better than you thought.
00:09:10I sneezed on the head of the institution.
00:09:14You what?
00:09:16Sneezed on him.
00:09:17It was one of those sneezes that just kind of creeps up on you,
00:09:21and before you know it, he's covered in my snot.
00:09:25God, I'm...
00:09:26I am so sorry, hon.
00:09:28No, it's okay. I know you want to.
00:09:30Yeah.
00:09:36Okay, okay, laugh it up.
00:09:38It's going to be your last chance,
00:09:39because I'm not going for any more interviews.
00:09:43I don't make a good impression, okay?
00:09:45You should have taken my advice and shown a little bit of cleavage.
00:09:48Trust me, you would have gotten the job then.
00:09:50Please, you know that's not my style.
00:09:52I think if I wore heels, I'd fall flat on my face.
00:09:55I'm such a dork.
00:10:00Well, what do you think you're doing then?
00:10:02I don't know.
00:10:04Thanks for not disputing the dork thing, by the way.
00:10:07Sorry, hon.
00:10:08I guess I'll sign welfare to make the rent long term.
00:10:15I don't know, maybe go back to school,
00:10:17get better qualified for something.
00:10:19How about doing something with your writing?
00:10:22You could try to get something published,
00:10:24write a book or something.
00:10:25I don't know, I haven't written since, you know.
00:10:30I know.
00:10:33And it's a total cliche, but time does heal.
00:10:38I'm sure the passion you had for it will come back.
00:10:40Thanks.
00:10:42You want to talk about it?
00:10:44No, no, I think I'm just going to get a big tub of ice cream
00:10:47and slob out in front of the TV.
00:10:50Mmm, comfort eating.
00:10:51If ever there was a time for comfort eating,
00:10:53I think it's the day, okay?
00:10:55I can't argue with that.
00:10:57Okay, well, give me a call tomorrow.
00:10:58We'll go grab a coffee, yeah?
00:11:00Yeah, sure.
00:11:02Okay, bye.
00:11:03Bye.
00:11:03Hello.
00:11:04Hello.
00:11:04Lisa, this is Dr. Mixtra at High Hopes Hospital.
00:11:27Really?
00:11:29Hi.
00:11:30I'm just calling to say it was great to meet you today
00:11:34and I'd like to offer you the job.
00:11:39Are you there?
00:11:43Um...
00:11:43Is this a joke or something?
00:11:46No joke.
00:11:47I'd like to offer you the job.
00:11:51Seriously?
00:11:52Oh my god, I can't believe it.
00:11:58If you could be here at 9am tomorrow for an induction
00:12:00and we will go from there.
00:12:04Thank you so much.
00:12:05I really, really appreciate it
00:12:07and I'm not going to let you down.
00:12:09I know you won't.
00:12:11See you tomorrow.
00:12:12Okay, see you tomorrow.
00:12:13I don't know.
00:12:27Kovna!
00:12:30Can I help you?
00:12:32Um, I'm here for the cleaning induction.
00:12:36Dr. Mixtra said you'd be coming.
00:12:39I'm Delaney.
00:12:41We'll be working together.
00:12:43Cool.
00:12:53I'll fix this
00:12:54and we'll get to it.
00:12:57Okay.
00:13:10This is the storage cupboard.
00:13:12Everything you'll need for each task is here.
00:13:16Each shelf is labelled.
00:13:18Now, the most obvious task we have is vacuuming.
00:13:20This is our vacuum here.
00:13:21It's straightforward.
00:13:22You'll be surprised
00:13:23that although it's powerful,
00:13:25it's very quiet
00:13:26because we're working when everyone's in bed
00:13:28so obviously we don't want to wake them up.
00:13:30It has a telescopic suction tube and a six-stage filter system.
00:13:34So, a lot more powerful than you may be used to.
00:13:36Okay.
00:13:37The mop and bucket is here.
00:13:39We usually use standard bleach to mix with the water so, again, that's straightforward.
00:13:44But there is this specialist stain remover you must use if there are any stains on the floor or carpet.
00:13:50It must be sprayed and left to set for 20 minutes before scrubbing or mopping.
00:13:54But be careful.
00:13:56It's quite powerful.
00:13:57So wash your hands after you use it.
00:13:59One of the worst parts of the job is we have to remove chewing gum from lots of surfaces.
00:14:05You know, they don't just stick it under the table.
00:14:07It ends up everywhere.
00:14:09That's so gross.
00:14:10Yes.
00:14:11I think a lot of the time it's the staff doing it, not the patients.
00:14:15But we have this gum guard,
00:14:17which is a bit complicated,
00:14:18but it's easier than just scraping the gum.
00:14:21The steam is superheated to 180 degrees
00:14:24and delivered at 7.0 bar pressure.
00:14:26You know, it can produce 115 litres of superheated steam per minute.
00:14:32Do you mind if I watch you use it?
00:14:35Just so I don't put holes in the furniture or myself.
00:14:38No problem, no problem.
00:14:39Now here we come to the most dangerous chemical we have.
00:14:43This is concrete cleaner.
00:14:45Very toxic stuff.
00:14:47So you have to wear the face mask and gloves we have here, okay?
00:14:50This is for cleaning and descaling brick, stone, concrete, and for metal, derusting.
00:14:54For concrete, mix it one to four parts water.
00:14:57Brush or spray it on with the equipment here,
00:14:59then leave the set for five to ten minutes.
00:15:02But for those stubborn son of a bitch marks,
00:15:05use this neat.
00:15:06Okay.
00:15:07Now, don't worry if it's a lot to take in.
00:15:10You'll mostly be mopping and hoovering in your first few weeks.
00:15:13That's fine by me.
00:15:14Any questions?
00:15:16Um, no.
00:15:16I think that's all good.
00:15:18Okay, follow me.
00:15:19Okay.
00:15:19This is the main hallway of Ward B.
00:15:29One of two wards you'll be responsible for cleaning each evening.
00:15:33Essentially, the main duties will be empty in the bins,
00:15:35vacuuming the carpeted areas, and mopping the hallways.
00:15:38The patients in here are Category B.
00:15:41They're mainly people who have had nervous breakdowns,
00:15:44and those who are catatonic.
00:15:46They're harmless.
00:15:49Like Mrs. Hardesty here.
00:15:57Hello, Mrs. Hardesty.
00:16:00She hasn't spoken a word in all her time here.
00:16:04The orderly has just left her from the bedroom
00:16:06to the day room
00:16:08and back again
00:16:09every day.
00:16:11Then why did you just
00:16:15talk to her?
00:16:16We still gotta treat them like human beings.
00:16:19Otherwise, they just become like furniture.
00:16:22Then we all lose our humanity.
00:16:25I like to think she can hear me.
00:16:28Even though
00:16:29she won't talk to me.
00:16:33See you later, Mrs. Hardesty.
00:16:36Hmm?
00:16:39Okay.
00:16:41Bye.
00:16:45The patients,
00:16:46they are locked in their room on our night shift.
00:16:48But now and again,
00:16:50they might have an accident we got to clean up.
00:16:52In the daytime,
00:16:54there are often nurses who clean up.
00:16:56But in the night,
00:16:57we may be called to provide fresh linen
00:16:59or to mop up.
00:17:00Not the most pleasant of jobs,
00:17:02but
00:17:02it happens from time to time.
00:17:04I understand.
00:17:06Now here we come to the most
00:17:08difficult part of the job.
00:17:10Cleaning crack isn't the difficult part.
00:17:15Oh no.
00:17:16That's very easy compared to what's behind this door.
00:17:19Hmm.
00:17:20What's behind it?
00:17:22This leads down toward X.
00:17:24Sounds ominous.
00:17:26You could say that.
00:17:28This is where Category A patients are held.
00:17:31The criminal and the insane.
00:17:34Dr. Mixter didn't mention that.
00:17:37Yes, well,
00:17:39these patients are beyond help.
00:17:41So they've become,
00:17:42I don't know,
00:17:44the hospital's secret.
00:17:46Dr. Mixter probably thought he could help them.
00:17:48He can't.
00:17:52The staff,
00:17:53they call this place
00:17:54Blood Row.
00:17:54Cliphole.
00:18:13Oh no.
00:18:13Oh, wass that smell?
00:18:29It always hangs in the air.
00:18:31No matter how much we bleach the floor, there is always that smell of death.
00:18:37Are the patients dangerous?
00:18:39Yes, don't worry about it.
00:18:41You'll never have to interact directly or anything like that.
00:18:44You'll just be mopping the hallway and dusting.
00:18:57That's Jerry Kimball.
00:18:59He was convicted of stabbing a young mother 49 times in front of her two-year-old son,
00:19:06then killing and sexually assaulting a woman
00:19:09before smothering her four-year-old child.
00:19:16He is a dangerous man.
00:19:19Especially towards women.
00:19:21This next patient, he's even worse.
00:19:30Here we have Mr. Dennis Palmer, also known as the Long Island Cannibal.
00:19:38He was abused as a child, so his targets were always pedophiles and rapists.
00:19:44He tracked them down and tortured them.
00:19:46He did parts of their body while they were still alive.
00:19:52That's horrible.
00:19:54The most horrible thing is that a lot of the public thought that, oh, he was the hero.
00:20:01Fancy that, huh?
00:20:05Sadie Krimwinkel.
00:20:06What's her deal?
00:20:10She was a member of a witchcraft cult.
00:20:13They kidnapped six people for a demonic ritual.
00:20:16The fight were killed, but one got away and led police to the cult.
00:20:21She turned her trial into a circus.
00:20:23Talking about lots of crazy stuff.
00:20:26The media enjoyed it, but she got certified insane by the court.
00:20:32She's been around a few institutions since, and now she's here.
00:20:37Some strange stories here.
00:20:40Well, those aren't the strangest.
00:20:42This is our resident, John Doe.
00:20:52And sometimes we have people with amnesia.
00:20:55Often we find out who they are.
00:20:59Not so with this man.
00:21:02Who is he?
00:21:04They first brought him in about six months ago.
00:21:08An orderly found him wandering the grounds.
00:21:10First of all, he was like Mrs. Hardesty upstairs.
00:21:14Catatonic.
00:21:17But soon, he got violent.
00:21:21A young doctor tried to take his vital signs.
00:21:24Patient X here throttled him so hard that he crushed his larynx.
00:21:30It took six orderlies to restrain him.
00:21:34Now they won't even let him out for the hour-a-day exercise.
00:21:37You know, son.
00:21:47We still don't know who he is.
00:21:50God.
00:21:51God has nothing to do with this man.

00:23:05Did you change the garbage in the dayroom?
00:23:07Yeah
00:23:07Good
00:23:09I've got a lightbulb to change upstairs soon
00:23:12in room 12
00:23:13We're making good time
00:23:16Cool
00:23:17You know it's funny
00:23:20I
00:23:21I didn't think I'd get this job
00:23:24The interview didn't go that well
00:23:28Dr. Mixter said
00:23:31you were the only person he interviewed for the job
00:23:33Really?
00:23:35Yeah
00:23:35I'm sure he felt you were right for the job
00:23:38and didn't need to interview anyone else
00:23:39Cool
00:23:40Nice tattoos
00:23:45Yeah
00:23:47I forget I have them sometimes
00:23:49What does the big one mean?
00:23:54Well
00:23:55It represents a lot of wrong turns in my younger years
00:23:58Like what?
00:24:02Like it's none of your fucking business
00:24:04Um
00:24:06I didn't mean to pry
00:24:07It's okay
00:24:09It's okay
00:24:09Let's just say the past is better left there
00:24:12Huh?
00:24:13Fair enough
00:24:14So
00:24:17How was the first night for you?
00:24:21Good
00:24:21Um
00:24:22I saw the girl
00:24:23Uh
00:24:24She's about 13
00:24:25I told her to go back to bed
00:24:27I guess you don't
00:24:29Lock kids up at night, right?
00:24:31You sure you saw a young girl of that age?
00:24:34Yeah
00:24:35Dark hair
00:24:36Dark hair
00:24:36No older than 13
00:24:38Hm
00:24:40Okay
00:24:41What?
00:24:42Well
00:24:43There are no children of that age here
00:24:45What?
00:24:47In fact there are no children of any age in this place
00:24:49I think our youngest patient is about
00:24:5120
00:24:53You're kidding, right?
00:24:56No
00:24:56I'm serious
00:24:58Well
00:24:59Who did I see in the hall?
00:25:03You sure you saw a young girl of that age?
00:25:06I'm positive
00:25:07I'd better tell the orderlies
00:25:12This is no place for a little girl to be
00:25:14Did you find her?
00:25:37No
00:25:38So, you're the one that saw the little girl, huh?
00:25:43Yes
00:25:44You sure you saw a little girl?
00:25:48Of course
00:25:49Hmm
00:25:50I had to take staff off of two wards to search this goddamn place
00:25:56Top to bottom
00:25:58I didn't find a thing
00:26:01That's so strange
00:26:03Big fucking inconvenience is what it was
00:26:08Listen, do me a favor
00:26:12Next time you think you see something
00:26:15Be absolutely certain
00:26:17Before you go running at the jumpsuit over here
00:26:20I don't have time to be running around this place
00:26:24Looking for shit that isn't there
00:26:26Understand?
00:26:31Yep
00:26:32Okay
00:26:33I'm sorry
00:26:35Don't worry about it
00:26:43Better safe than sorry, huh?
00:26:49Okay
00:26:49You can carry on cleaning
00:26:51Lisa, can you do me a favor?
00:27:02Sure
00:27:02Can you empty the rubbish in Dr. Mixter's office?
00:27:05I gotta go check the boiler
00:27:06There's been complaints about the heating not working
00:27:09Yeah, no problem
00:27:10Thanks
00:27:11Dr. Mixter?
00:27:17I'm still a half way
00:27:23There's been complaints about the heating not working
00:27:23So
00:27:24You know
00:27:25What?
00:27:26You know
00:27:27Untertitelung. BR 2018
00:27:57What the hell are you doing in here?
00:28:14Emptying the garbage.
00:28:18Yeah, funny. I don't seem to recall Dr. Mixer leaving his garbage on his desk.
00:28:22It just fell on the floor. I don't know.
00:28:25Yeah, well you know I'm going to have to report this.
00:28:28What? Come on, I didn't see anything.
00:28:32Hey, out of my hands, new girl. Hospital policy.
00:28:36I just got this job and I really need it. Please?
00:28:39Yeah. Maybe we can come to some kind of arrangement.
00:28:47What do you mean?
00:28:52I'm sure that pretty mouth yours is good for something other than lying.
00:28:55You're disgusting.
00:29:01Oh, come on. It's a win-win. I'd love it. You'd love it.
00:29:09You'd better get out of my way or I'm going to report you for sexual harassment.
00:29:18You've been working here for five minutes.
00:29:21Who do you think Dr. Mixer is going to believe?
00:29:24Some fucking cleaner?
00:29:25Or a medical professional.
00:29:29Pemberton.
00:29:31Leave her alone.
00:29:33Hey, she ain't no prisoner here.
00:29:35We're just talking.
00:29:38What's the problem?
00:29:42No problem.
00:29:44Lee, sir, come with me.
00:29:46We've got a job up on Ward B.
00:29:47Okay.
00:29:48Okay.
00:29:48Okay.
00:29:55Are you okay?
00:30:02I'm fine. I'm just a bit creeped out and intimidated, you know?
00:30:07Pemberton.
00:30:08He can be like that.
00:30:10Unfortunately, he works nights also.
00:30:12With that other prick.
00:30:14Hardcastle.
00:30:16They like to throw their weight around.
00:30:18You'll get used to it.
00:30:19People like that shouldn't be in charge of patience.
00:30:25Let's go have a coffee.
00:30:29You like your breaks, don't you?
00:30:32I like the pace myself.
00:30:55Mrs. Hardesty, what are you doing out of bed?
00:31:20Oh, I forgot.
00:31:24You don't talk.
00:31:26Um, stay there.
00:31:28I'm going to go and get an orderly.
00:31:33You are going to die in fear.
00:31:41What did you say?
00:31:48I'm going to get an orderly.
00:31:50I don't like that one.
00:31:56Well, look who it is.
00:31:57Miss Sexual Harassment.
00:31:59Bite me.
00:32:01Hey, what are you laughing at?
00:32:03This one's got a big mouth.
00:32:06First, she's got a search in the hospital for a little girl.
00:32:11And now, she's busting your balls.
00:32:15I don't want any trouble.
00:32:16I just came to tell you, there is a patient out of their room in Ward B.
00:32:21Hey, you won't get any trouble for me, honey.
00:32:24I'm a professional.
00:32:27Unlike this useless bag of bones over here.
00:32:30See you later, sweetie.
00:32:40See you later, sweetie.
00:32:41So where's this patient you saw?
00:33:02She was right here.
00:33:05Who?
00:33:06Mrs. Hardesty.
00:33:10Mrs. Hardesty.
00:33:12Yeah.
00:33:12She even spoke to me.
00:33:16Mrs. Hardesty was just here and she spoke to you.
00:33:19Yes.
00:33:23Look, I know she's catatonic, but she spoke to me, okay?
00:33:29Catatonic ain't the strange thing, sweetheart.
00:33:31What do you mean?
00:33:33Mrs. Hardesty died this morning.
00:33:36But I could have sworn...
00:33:39Why don't you just get back to your cleaning, huh?
00:33:42Lay off the crack pipe.
00:33:45Okay, honey money?
00:33:46Hey, wait!
00:34:05Little girl!
00:34:10Hey!
00:34:11Don't go down there!
00:34:16Open it!
00:34:45Open it!
00:34:45Little girl?
00:35:15Hey, Palmer.
00:35:43Yes?
00:35:44My cock is so hard, Palmer.
00:35:51So hard I can hardly contain it.
00:35:55I'm going to break through this wall and do bad things to you.
00:36:01Very, very bad things.
00:36:04I must advise you, Mr. Kimble, threats will not be well received.
00:36:13I'm touching myself, Palmer.
00:36:16You want to watch?
00:36:18You fucking faggot!
00:36:20Stay out of my psyche, Mr. Kimble, and I will stay out of yours.
00:36:27I know you're out there, girl.
00:36:34You can smell your pussy.
00:36:38I know you're out there, girl.
00:36:39You can smell your pussy.
00:36:45Will you join me in here?
00:36:49Come on.
00:36:50Come on.
00:36:56Come on.
00:36:57Come on.
00:36:59Come on.
00:37:01Come on.
00:37:03Das war's.
00:37:33Musik
00:38:02Musik
00:38:16Musik
00:38:20Okay, next thing is mopping the floor in more decks.
00:38:24Um, couldn't you do that, maybe?
00:38:26Why?
00:38:28What's the matter?
00:38:30It's just, um, I'm not feeling well and I was just wondering if I could take a break.
00:38:36Does Wardex frighten you?
00:38:40Maybe a little.
00:38:42It's normal. It frightens me sometimes.
00:38:47But I have to go up to a patient's room in Warday.
00:38:50Apparently, they've had a little accident.
00:38:54Surely I wouldn't prefer to clean that up.
00:38:56Hmm, maybe not.
00:38:58I know Wardex is a scary place, but you'll get used to it.
00:39:04It's just, I can hear them talking through the doors and it's kinda unnerving.
00:39:12I know.
00:39:14I hear that too when I'm down there.
00:39:16But don't worry.
00:39:18I am.
00:39:20Once you get used to it, things will get a lot easier.
00:39:24I am.
00:39:25When I see my first room on my bed, I would be able to clean it up.
00:39:26I am.
00:39:27I have a lot of confidence in me.
00:39:28But don't worry.
00:39:29I am.
00:39:30It's too late to burn my bed down.
00:39:32I am.
00:39:33When I'm out there.
00:39:34I have to go up your bed.
00:39:35I am.
00:39:36To be the last room.
00:39:37I can see that before I leave the bed.
00:39:39To be the second room.
00:39:42I can hear you out there.
00:40:05I've been talking to your mother, Lisa.
00:40:16She's here with me, Lisa.
00:40:21She's told me all about you.
00:40:25I know you're out there, Lisa.
00:40:30Talk to me.
00:40:32What do you want me to say?
00:40:34Perhaps you can tell me about the summer trips to Key West with your mother.
00:40:42Those were your favourite memories of your mother when they were.
00:40:54Or perhaps you may want to tell me when you sat at your mother's bedside for six long months.
00:41:04Watching on helplessly while cancer ravished her body and sucked the life out of her.
00:41:18How do you know all of this?
00:41:24Because your mother is speaking to me.
00:41:28You're a sick fuck.
00:41:34She has a message for you, Lisa.
00:41:38What the message?
00:41:40What is it?
00:41:42Get out!
00:41:44I'm sorry.
00:41:46I'm sorry.
00:41:50I'm sorry.
00:41:52I'm sorry.
00:41:54My heart is nearby.
00:41:56You're not going to be lying.
00:41:57I'm Jason could be an issue but do you know something like this.
00:42:02I'm not going to worry.
00:42:04Britney.

00:43:41The last thing I want is for you to dread coming to work.
00:43:45I really appreciate it.
00:43:49No problem.
00:44:01What's all the fucking racket Palmer?
00:44:03Sorry to bother you Mr Pemberton, but I wondered if it would be possible to get some medical attention.
00:44:08Well fucking done. How the hell did that happen?
00:44:12Well I believe it was this rather crude weapon that did the damage.
00:44:17Jesus Christ.
00:44:19Put the weapon down and back away from the door.
00:44:22Now put your hands on your fucking head and face the wall now.
00:44:25I'm coming in dipshit.
00:44:26One false fucking move from you and I'll splash those twisted brains of yours all over the wall.
00:44:30Do you understand me?
00:44:31As you wish Mr Pemberton.
00:44:39Now don't fucking move.
00:44:57Don't fucking move!
00:44:58Move!
00:45:15Terribly sorry about this Mr Pemberton.
00:45:17Good evening Mr Pemberton.
00:45:34Good evening Mr Pemberton.
00:45:36Pemberton, where the hell are you what's taken so long?
00:45:59Hemminen, woher du bist? Was dauert so lange?
00:46:04Jesus, Marian Johnson.
00:46:16Oh, shit.
00:46:18We've got a Major Code 6 in Ward X.
00:46:45Come on, let's get it.
00:46:49Go have your work to do.
00:46:52Stay awake.
00:47:03Good evening, gentlemen.
00:47:05I believe we'll be one short at roll call tomorrow morning.
00:47:11You son of a bitch!
00:47:18Good evening, everyone.
00:47:20Good evening.
00:47:24He's a good evening.
00:47:26He's a good morning.
00:47:29Good evening, everyone.
00:47:32Good evening.
00:47:33Was ist das?
00:48:03Was the fuck are you looking at?
00:48:05Nothing, I just, I heard something and I was curious
00:48:08Make sure it stays that way
00:48:13That guy is a fucking menace
00:48:17Deserves everything he gets
00:48:22Look, I don't want you talking to Mixtor about this
00:48:25Or anybody else
00:48:28Understand?
00:48:29I won't say anything
00:48:31Good
00:48:35Don't you have some cleaning to do somewhere?
00:48:37Yeah
00:49:01Hey
00:49:09God, hon, you look like shit
00:49:15Oh, thanks, Ann, come in
00:49:25Night shift's getting to you, huh?
00:49:27Yeah, the whole job's kinda getting to me, my body clock is all out of whack, you know?
00:49:37But, you know, it's not just that
00:49:39There's something seriously wrong with that place
00:49:41Like what?
00:49:43Like what?
00:49:44Well, the orderlies are complete bastards
00:49:45I think they tend to be in places like that
00:49:47The patients are really violent
00:49:49You haven't been hurt by anyone, have you?
00:49:51No, nothing like that
00:49:53I mean, the things they say can be really...
00:49:55But, I don't know, I think maybe I'm just saying things
00:49:57What are you talking about?
00:49:58Either
00:49:59Either
00:50:01Either
00:50:03Either
00:50:04Either
00:50:05Either
00:50:06That place is haunted
00:50:07Or
00:50:08I'm losing my mind
00:50:09Well, I wouldn't be surprised if it was haunted
00:50:10What do you mean?
00:50:11I was telling my dad about your new job
00:50:12Okay
00:50:13I don't know
00:50:14I wouldn't be surprised if it was haunted
00:50:16No, nothing like that
00:50:17I mean, the things they say can be really...
00:50:19But, I don't know
00:50:20I think maybe I'm just seeing things
00:50:21What are you talking about?
00:50:23Either
00:50:25Either
00:50:26That place is haunted
00:50:27Or
00:50:28I'm losing my mind
00:50:29I wouldn't be surprised if it was haunted
00:50:31Oh, I'm losing my mind
00:50:32I wouldn't be surprised if it was haunted
00:50:33What do you mean?
00:50:35I was telling my dad about your new job
00:50:38Okay.
00:50:40You know that the Asylum was only built there a couple of years ago.
00:50:42Yeah.
00:50:44He said that it was built on the site of 112 Ocean Avenue.
00:50:48What's that?
00:50:50You've never heard of it?
00:50:52No.
00:50:54It's a famous house.
00:50:56Infamous, I guess I should say.
00:50:58Some guy shot his entire family there back in the 70s.
00:51:02His parents, brothers, sisters.
00:51:04He wiped out his entire family with a shotgun.
00:51:06And then the next owners of the house only lasted there about a month.
00:51:10They said that they were driven out of the house by evil spirits,
00:51:13and the house became famous all over the world.
00:51:15That's why the most recent owners sold the property.
00:51:18They had gotten tired of media interest and constant tourists.
00:51:22Are you seriously telling me that you have never heard of the Amityville Horror House?
00:51:26I mean, I vaguely remember hearing something about it, but I never took it in.
00:51:32I didn't realize it was on the same land.
00:51:36Yeah, right on the spot where the house was demolished.
00:51:39Do you think that it's haunted?
00:51:41Either that or I have just gone crazy.
00:51:45Well, we know that you're not crazy.
00:51:48You know, perhaps all those stories about hauntings of the house were true.
00:51:53Maybe the house is gone, but the spirits have stuck around.
00:51:56Do you believe in ghosts?
00:51:58Hmm.
00:51:59Never seen one.
00:52:01But I like to think of myself as open-minded.
00:52:04If you say you saw something, I believe you.
00:52:07Thanks, Nats.
00:52:08So what are you gonna do? Are you gonna quit?
00:52:11Well, part of me thinks I should.
00:52:16There's a lot about that place that frightens me, but...
00:52:21I think I've, you know, seen too much.
00:52:26If I were you, I would quit.
00:52:30There's no point working somewhere that frightens you.
00:52:34Well, there is, if you need the money.
00:52:37And I just think now that I should find out more and just get to the bottom of things.
00:52:45Maybe you are crazy.
00:52:48Yeah, maybe a bit crazy.
00:52:51Hair's a bit crazy.
00:52:56Oh, God.
00:53:04Oh!
00:53:21Oh!
00:53:22Oh!
00:53:23Oh!
00:53:27What?
00:53:28Oh!
00:53:32Do you know the history of this place?
00:53:39Well, there's not much history.
00:53:43We've only been open, what, a couple of years?
00:53:45No, the history of the land.
00:53:47You mean what was on the land before the hospital?
00:53:50Yeah.
00:53:51Oh, I know a bit about that.
00:53:55112 Ocean's Avenue.
00:53:58The old Amityville Haunted House.
00:54:00Well, I don't know about it being haunted, but I know about that kid.
00:54:05The kid that killed his family.
00:54:08That's true.
00:54:09I only heard about it from a friend recently.
00:54:14Really? It's a famous case.
00:54:16Why didn't you ever tell me?
00:54:17Well, you seem spooked already, and I didn't want to make it worse.
00:54:22You know why I'm spooked?
00:54:24Yeah, because of those patients on Ward X, yeah?
00:54:27It's not just that, Delaney.
00:54:30I think...
00:54:33You've seen something.
00:54:36Remember the girl that I saw in the hall?
00:54:39I know who she is.
00:54:41She's the daughter of the DeFeo family.
00:54:44She got killed.
00:54:46Have you ever seen her?
00:54:48No.
00:54:53Honestly?
00:54:54To be honest, Lisa, I don't believe in all that ghost stuff.
00:54:58Well, I wasn't a huge believer either, but, you know, I know what I've seen.
00:55:03Look, I believe you've seen something.
00:55:07Some people are more open to those kind of things, but me?
00:55:09Well, I'm closed off to all that.
00:55:13Well, what do you believe in?
00:55:15Do you believe in a God?
00:55:18Serious questions tonight, Lisa.
00:55:19I'm just curious.
00:55:22But why do you ask?
00:55:24I've been thinking.
00:55:25You know, how much evil can exist in a world that's supposed to be guarded by a loving God?
00:55:36Look, I don't believe that God is a bearded man who lives up in the sky.
00:55:44Nor do I believe that the devil is a demon with red horns.
00:55:47I believe that God and Satan are within all of us.
00:55:54But whether we become good or evil, well, it depends, Lisa, on which side of us we feed.
00:56:03What frightens me?
00:56:06What if there is a God, but he's not powerful enough to stop evil?
00:56:15Free will in the hands of a person who feeds the evil inside them.
00:56:19Now that's what frightens me.
00:56:24Dr. McStore must have known what was on this land before he built on it.
00:56:30Of course he did.
00:56:32He bought the land and ordered the demolition of the house himself.
00:56:36Why would he do that if he knew the history?
00:56:39Well, he's not superstitious.
00:56:41He's a doctor.
00:56:42They don't usually believe in those things.
00:56:45Look, Amityville is full of local legends, going back even before the DeFeos.
00:56:51Like who?
00:56:52This story is about the Native Americans getting slaughtered on this land many years ago.
00:57:02Some people, they even believed that the Indian chief possessed that kid.
00:57:08The kid that killed his family.
00:57:10Really?
00:57:11Yeah.
00:57:12I don't think that's true, though.
00:57:16If I've learned anything from the patients on Ward-X,
00:57:19it's that some people have a mind which works in a different way to other people.
00:57:23Those people who do bad things, Lisa,
00:57:26well, they've fed the bad inside them more than the good.
00:57:30It's not possession.
00:57:33It's sickness.
00:57:35Sickness of the soul.
00:57:39I don't know what to believe anymore.
00:57:42Just don't let your imagination run away with you, Lisa.
00:57:46Look, you're a person who feeds the good within you.
00:57:50Don't let this place feed the evil.
00:57:54Okay?
00:57:54Yeah, okay.
00:58:00So, the woman at the library seemed to know quite a bit
00:58:10about the history of Native Americans in a medieval.
00:58:13Yeah, but anything about them being killed on the land?
00:58:16The librarian said the town was very upset
00:58:18when they built the mental institution on the land
00:58:20because they didn't want such an eyesore in a suburban neighborhood
00:58:23and they got a thousand names on a petition.
00:58:25But that doctor that runs the place
00:58:26seemed to have enough money to pay off people in high places.
00:58:29Oh, my God.
00:58:30But is it actually true that they got killed or not?
00:58:33It's in here.
00:58:34Yeah, here it is.
00:58:36In the 18th century, there existed a group of Native Americans
00:58:40in a medieval known as the Sachem tribe,
00:58:42led by Sachem Takaposha, the chief.
00:58:45The tribe had fled Salem in Massachusetts
00:58:47to escape persecution by the Christians
00:58:49who were persecuting members of the tribe
00:58:50because of their witchcraft practices.
00:58:53These practices included a ritualistic human sacrifice
00:58:56of six people, the significance of six being related
00:58:59to the biblical number of man in creation,
00:59:01in order to induce the spirit of their God,
00:59:05the Dark Master,
00:59:06who they believe manifested his powers
00:59:08through his devoted followers, giving them immortality.
00:59:11The hundred strong tribes settled in a medieval
00:59:13but were later chased off the land by local Christians.
00:59:17Sachem accused the Christians
00:59:18of not properly compensating his tribe for the land.
00:59:21A war started,
00:59:22and the Christians hired a hunter
00:59:24called John Underhill from Salem.
00:59:26At the site where 112 Ocean Avenue
00:59:28was later built in a medieval,
00:59:30Underhill killed all of the tribe.
00:59:33The Indians were buried in a mass grave on the site.
00:59:36Before he died, Sachem vowed revenge.
00:59:38According to local legend,
00:59:40Chief Sachem is believed
00:59:41to have subsequently haunted the land.
00:59:44Various parapsychologists and mediums
00:59:46have claimed that Sachem's vengeful spirit
00:59:48influenced the 1974 DeFeo murders
00:59:51at 112 Ocean Avenue
00:59:53and the haunting of the subsequent owners,
00:59:56although such assertions are widely disputed.
00:59:59So, the legend has basis in historical fact.
01:00:03That certainly seems so.
01:00:08You told me the other night
01:00:20that evil is within us all.
01:00:25Isn't it possible
01:00:26that people can be influenced
01:00:29by evil outside of themselves?
01:00:31Are you still thinking about this?
01:00:33Yeah, I am.
01:00:35I worry that you're thinking too much.
01:00:36but this place is getting to you.
01:00:38It's getting to me
01:00:39because something sinister is going on.
01:00:43Not just the patients in Ward X.
01:00:46Haven't you ever noticed that?
01:00:52I might have noticed something.
01:00:55Yeah, well,
01:00:56why have you never said anything
01:00:58or done anything?
01:01:03It's like the honeybee.
01:01:06What does that mean?
01:01:11The honeybee is fine
01:01:13when he's flying from flower to flower.
01:01:17And he thinks that someone's a threat.
01:01:20And he stings them.
01:01:23He might leave a sting,
01:01:25but the person will recover.
01:01:29The bee?
01:01:30He dies.
01:01:36So I ask myself,
01:01:39is it worth it?
01:01:42Is it worth it?
01:01:42Check out this article.
01:01:56What's it say?
01:01:57The Satchim tribe
01:01:58was a tribe of Native American origin
01:02:00that existed in the 18th century.
01:02:02They fled Massachusetts
01:02:03and settled in a medieval
01:02:04where they were eventually murdered
01:02:05over a land dispute.
01:02:07The tribe was renowned
01:02:07for practices in line with witchcraft
01:02:09and worshipped a god
01:02:10called the Dark Master.
01:02:12In 2009,
01:02:13it emerged that a modern cult
01:02:14incarnation of the tribe existed.
01:02:16They've adopted
01:02:17the traditional beliefs
01:02:18of the Satchim tribe,
01:02:18but the modern followers
01:02:19are not required
01:02:20to be of Native American origin.

01:02:25This one?
01:02:25Yeah.
01:02:26Our time is at hand.
01:02:30On November the 13th, 2013,
01:02:33six souls will be sacrificed
01:02:34so that the Dark Master's
01:02:35devoted followers
01:02:36may be blessed with immortality.
01:02:40As non-believers perish on doomsday,
01:02:42the Master's loyal subjects
01:02:44shall live on
01:02:45and be bestowed with great power
01:02:47and responsibility
01:02:48for the direction of the new world.
01:02:51What is this shit?

01:03:00What?
01:03:01What is it?
01:03:02What does it mean, Lisa?
01:03:06Sadie Krenwinkel
01:03:07is a convicted murderer
01:03:08and former member
01:03:09of the Satchim cult,
01:03:11a modern incarnation
01:03:11of a Native American tribe
01:03:13who practiced witchcraft
01:03:14in the 18th century.
01:03:16At her trial in 2010,
01:03:17Krenwinkel outlined the beliefs
01:03:19of the Satchim cult,
01:03:20claiming the human sacrifice
01:03:22of six individuals
01:03:23would have given them immortality.
01:03:24Oh my God.
01:03:27What?
01:03:29Look at the name of the doctor
01:03:30who testified in her trial.
01:03:32What?
01:03:32Look at the name of the doctor
01:03:32who testified in her trial.
01:03:34Sadie?
01:03:46I know what you're doing.
01:03:53I've seen your blog.
01:04:00How are you getting access
01:04:01to the internet?
01:04:02You allowed all that stuff
01:04:12in your cell, huh?
01:04:13The Dark Master is near.
01:04:17It's too late to stop now.
01:04:22The night will behold
01:04:24a great becoming.
01:04:26What are you planning?
01:04:30Are you planning a sacrifice?
01:04:31Oh, good things come to that
01:04:34late.
01:04:36Our time is hard.
01:04:46Come in.
01:05:06Hi, Dr. Mixter.
01:05:08Hello, Lisa.
01:05:09What can I do for you?
01:05:10Um, I was just wondering
01:05:12if I could talk to you
01:05:13about something.
01:05:14It's quite important.
01:05:15Yes, of course.
01:05:16Come in.
01:05:23So, what can I do for you, Lisa?
01:05:26Um, well,
01:05:27what I'm going to say
01:05:29might sound a bit strange,
01:05:31but I really need to tell you.
01:05:35Okay.
01:05:36Go ahead.
01:05:36Are you aware
01:05:38of the history of this place
01:05:39before it was a hospital?
01:05:40To, uh,
01:05:41what are you referring exactly?
01:05:43Um,
01:05:44the DeFeo murders,
01:05:46the house that was here
01:05:47that people said was haunted.
01:05:49Well, I'm aware
01:05:50of the DeFeo murders, yes.
01:05:52The, uh,
01:05:53the hauntings.
01:05:55Wasn't that just
01:05:56a lot of scaremongering
01:05:57by the media?
01:05:58What about the history
01:05:59of the land
01:05:59dating back to the 18th century?
01:06:02No, I can't say that.
01:06:04Well,
01:06:05there were a group
01:06:07of Native Americans
01:06:09called the Satchim Tribe,
01:06:11and they were murdered
01:06:14by a bunch of Christians
01:06:15over a dispute
01:06:16over the land.
01:06:18I'm, uh,
01:06:19sure there's a point
01:06:20to all this.
01:06:21Yes.
01:06:22Um,
01:06:23Sadie Krenwinkel
01:06:24on Word X.
01:06:26She shares the beliefs
01:06:28of the Satchim Tribe.
01:06:30I have reason to believe
01:06:32that she's getting access
01:06:33to the internet
01:06:34and to witchcraft paraphernalia
01:06:36and is planning
01:06:39some sort of human sacrifice
01:06:40tonight
01:06:41to raise the god
01:06:42that she believes in,
01:06:43the Dark Master.
01:06:45I'm serious.
01:06:47You've been reading up
01:06:48on Sadie.
01:06:49Rather outlandish stuff,
01:06:51isn't it, hmm?
01:06:52I can assure you
01:06:54she has no access
01:06:55to the internet
01:06:56or anything else.
01:06:59She has a blog.
01:07:00She signs off
01:07:01as Sister Sadie.
01:07:02Well,
01:07:03that could be anyone
01:07:03called Sadie,
01:07:04couldn't it?
01:07:05Go and check her cell.
01:07:07Lisa,
01:07:10the patients
01:07:11on Word X
01:07:12spend 23 hours
01:07:14a day
01:07:15in their cell.
01:07:16They are let out
01:07:17for an hour's exercise
01:07:18in a small yard
01:07:19guarded by six
01:07:21of our staff.
01:07:23There is no way
01:07:24any of those patients
01:07:25have access
01:07:26to the internet
01:07:26or any paraphernalia.
01:07:30Well,
01:07:30then someone
01:07:31is helping her
01:07:32get access.
01:07:33Someone here.
01:07:35Look,
01:07:35just go down
01:07:36to her cell,
01:07:37talk to her.
01:07:38If I'm wrong,
01:07:39fine.
01:07:40But I had to tell you
01:07:41and I need you
01:07:43to check,
01:07:43please.
01:07:47Hang on a minute.
01:07:50Didn't you testify
01:07:51at her trial?
01:07:53Yes, I did.
01:07:55What are you implying?
01:07:57So you know
01:07:58how dangerous she is.
01:08:00Yes.
01:08:02And I appreciate
01:08:03your concern.
01:08:05One thing you need
01:08:07to understand,
01:08:08Lisa,
01:08:09there are some
01:08:10very disturbed patients
01:08:11in this hospital.
01:08:13We help those
01:08:14who can be helped,
01:08:15but the patients
01:08:16on Word X
01:08:17are beyond help.
01:08:19Their psychological
01:08:20disturbances
01:08:21are too far advanced.
01:08:22Their delusions
01:08:23are too grandiose.
01:08:27I worry
01:08:28that you've been
01:08:28rather taken in
01:08:29by one of those delusions.
01:08:31I know it might
01:08:33seem that way,
01:08:34but please
01:08:35check her blog.
01:08:38You can probably
01:08:39locate the IP address
01:08:40back here to the hospital.
01:08:41Okay.
01:08:43You've come to me
01:08:44with a concern
01:08:44of patient infraction
01:08:45and the potential
01:08:46threat of violence,
01:08:48so I am duty
01:08:49bound to investigate.
01:08:51In fact,
01:08:52I'll order a search
01:08:53immediately.
01:08:54You stay there.
01:08:56I'll be right back.
01:08:57Thank you.
01:09:27What the hell
01:09:32are you doing?
01:09:34This is for
01:09:35your own good,
01:09:37Lisa.
01:09:40Fuck you!
01:09:44We're only
01:09:45trying to help you.
01:09:57Let me out of here,
01:10:11you sick fuck!
01:10:12Now let's talk
01:10:13calmly, Lisa.
01:10:15Otherwise,
01:10:16you will be
01:10:16sedated again.
01:10:21Why are you
01:10:22doing this?
01:10:24You're having
01:10:24paranoid delusions.
01:10:26I'm also aware
01:10:28you've been
01:10:28having disturbing
01:10:29visions.
01:10:31I'm not having
01:10:32delusions.
01:10:32I know what I've
01:10:33seen.
01:10:34You think you'll
01:10:35know.
01:10:37The human brain
01:10:37is a powerful
01:10:39thing, Lisa,
01:10:39and I'm sure
01:10:40you do believe
01:10:41what you've seen.
01:10:42But it's all
01:10:44in your mind.
01:10:46It's not reality.
01:10:48You are a very
01:10:49sick girl
01:10:51and you need
01:10:51treatment.
01:10:52You do this
01:10:56to all your
01:10:56staff, huh?
01:10:58Every time
01:10:58someone speaks
01:10:59up, they get
01:11:00fucking committed.
01:11:01Staff?
01:11:03You were never
01:11:04staff here,
01:11:05Lisa.
01:11:06You're a
01:11:07patient here.

01:11:09been a patient
01:11:10here.
01:11:13You're lying.
01:11:14I know who I am.
01:11:16I'm afraid not,
01:11:18my dear.
01:11:20You've always
01:11:21been with us
01:11:21here.
01:11:23Initially as
01:11:24an outpatient,
01:11:24but now I feel
01:11:27it's time for you
01:11:28to become a
01:11:29full-time resident.
01:11:33I know.
01:11:35It's a lot
01:11:36to process.
01:11:38So I'll leave you
01:11:39to think about it
01:11:40and we'll
01:11:42begin our
01:11:43cancelling
01:11:43sessions tomorrow.
01:11:47Okay.

01:12:16Together.
01:12:18Now,
01:12:20I get to
01:12:20loosen your
01:12:21restraint.
01:12:22Remember though,
01:12:23if you're violent,
01:12:24you will go
01:12:25straight back on.
01:12:26Okay.
01:12:29Is that better?
01:12:30Yeah.

01:12:37Tomorrow,
01:12:37we begin
01:12:38the healing process.
01:12:40Our time
01:12:44is out.
01:13:03The gods do command thee, by thy majesty.
01:13:10Come forward, blessed one.
01:13:12Know your calling.
01:13:15Accept her, humble grandchildren, for your offering is death.
01:13:22You give life.

01:13:27Kill them all.
01:13:33Oh, we did it.
01:13:43We did it, Elliot.
01:13:45Our time is at hand.

01:15:33I don't even want to play with me.
01:15:46Hey, you need to get out of here.
01:15:59Someone's running around with a gun.
01:16:07What?
01:16:16He's not a bad guy.
01:16:19He's a little까봐.
01:16:22I think he's getting out of here.
01:16:24He's got a crack at me.
01:16:27He's going to be jealous of him.
01:16:30I was going to knife him out.
01:16:34He's got one.
01:16:36He's got the ball.
01:16:40He's got a crack at me.
01:16:42Komm schon, schnell!
01:17:12Kurva!
01:17:14Was?
01:17:15Was?
01:17:16A fucking key snapped in the door!
01:17:18Well, do something!
01:17:42It's okay.
01:17:46It's gonna be okay.
01:17:54Come on, don't go.
01:17:56No.
01:17:58Come on.
01:18:00Don't go to me.
01:18:12Oh, my God.
01:18:42Hey, Tom!
01:18:44How it might be.
01:18:46No.
01:18:48Yeah, he didn't know if he's tripled.
01:18:50Hello.
01:18:52I got his character now.
01:18:53I'm so close.
01:18:55It's going down pretty soon.
01:18:56I'm here, Jim.
01:18:58If he'sizing a little he'll work.
01:19:00So, he'll burn him all the way.
01:19:02If he's cutting out, he'll burn him all the way.
01:19:04I don't know.
01:19:06I'm capped a little.
01:19:08You're five!
01:19:10Here, yes, I won but those for you when I went on.

01:20:47I see we've dispensed with the usual pleasantries.
01:20:51Come in, Lisa.
01:20:56You're gonna tell me that I'm the crazy one, huh?
01:20:58That it's all in my head, huh?
01:21:02Well, maybe it is.
01:21:05Maybe it isn't.
01:21:07Get out of my head, you son of a bitch.
01:21:09I know who I am, what I've seen.
01:21:12You're the crazy one.
01:21:13You're the one holding a gun against a respected doctor, my dear.
01:21:18Why are you doing this? Why?
01:21:19You are part of a great becoming.
01:21:22The coming of the Dark Master who blesses all with power and immortality.
01:21:28God, didn't you believe that, do you?
01:21:30Because it sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me.
01:21:33You're no better than those fucking fundamentalists who kill innocent people
01:21:37just because of some shit they've read on an internet holy book.
01:21:40The coming will soon be here.
01:21:42Just one more sacrifice is all we need.
01:21:46Well, then how about I blow your fucking head off?
01:21:49What the fuck are you laughing at?
01:21:54It's all falling into place.
01:21:58Yeah.
01:21:59The cops are coming here.
01:22:01I'm going to tell them everything about your sick, twisted plan.
01:22:07They're going to lock you up and throw away the key.
01:22:10You say so?
01:22:13Tell me, Lisa.
01:22:15How does it feel to know your mother is burning in a bed?
01:22:19Shut up about my mother.
01:22:20You don't know anything about her.
01:22:22I know that you sometimes wonder why you don't cry enough for her.
01:22:27I know that you feel guilty for not doing more for her when she was alive.
01:22:32For getting on with your life and forgetting about her.
01:22:35I haven't forgotten about her.
01:22:36Let's face it, Lisa.
01:22:37You never cared about your mother.
01:22:39You never cared about anyone but yourself.
01:22:42Shut up.
01:22:43Shut up.
01:22:43She is burning in hell knowing that you didn't care.
01:22:54Your mother's a filthy whore, Lisa.
01:22:57And she's rotting in hell.
01:22:59Fuck you.
01:23:00Fuck you.
01:23:13Thanks, Victoria.
01:23:23A year ago, he was a survivor of the mass murder of High Hopes Hospital,
01:23:27where cleaner, Lisa Templeton, ran amok with a rifle,
01:23:30claiming six lives and injuring many others.
01:23:33Dr. Elliot Mixter has written a new book entitled High Hopes, Broken Dreams,
01:23:37which gives us an account of that fateful night,
01:23:39as well as a background into the mind of the murderer.
01:23:42Dr. Mixter, good morning.
01:23:44Good morning, Catherine.
01:23:45How are you?
01:23:45Very well, thank you.
01:23:47So, Doctor, could you tell us a little more about the book?
01:23:49Well, it features a blow-by-blow account of the evening.
01:23:53Obviously, it was a very harrowing experience,
01:23:56and it's been rather therapeutic for me to put down those feelings
01:24:02about what happened in writing.
01:24:04And how has this affected the hospital?
01:24:06Well, we were all left very numb for a long time,
01:24:10and I know certain people in the town felt we should close the institution.
01:24:15But that never occurred to me.
01:24:18People are often brought closer by tragedy,
01:24:22and the staff and I have definitely become closer since that incident,
01:24:27both as colleagues and as friends.
01:24:29That makes for a better institution, in my opinion,
01:24:33and we go from strength to strength.
01:24:36Now, you did mention there that some people wanted the place to close.
01:24:40I know that originally there was some resistance
01:24:42to the institution opening in the first place,
01:24:44given that it was built on the site of the infamous house,
01:24:47where Ronald DeFeo murdered his family in the 70s.
01:24:50People at the time were accused of exploiting the case for their own ends,
01:24:55and now you face similar criticism,
01:24:57especially as we heard last week that you've now sold the movie rights to your book.
01:25:01How do you respond to this criticism?
01:25:05I've heard the accusations,
01:25:07but don't you see, Catherine,
01:25:08I'm helping the memory of those involved live on.
01:25:13Admittedly, some of the victims were criminally insane,
01:25:16but others were loyal staff members with families,
01:25:21and I am determined that they are not forgotten.
01:25:25Each one of those staff members gets their own chapter in my book,
01:25:29so the reader can get a full picture of what wonderful people they were.
01:25:36I have often said that all forms of media,
01:25:40newspaper, books, television, the movies,
01:25:44are a preservation of life.
01:25:46Our physical bodies may die,
01:25:50but our images live on when we are famous.
01:25:55Our work and our passion are preserved.
01:26:00It's like our souls are preserved.
01:26:03Through all these forms of media,
01:26:07we are, in effect,
01:26:09immortal.
01:26:16Sit down, my dear,
01:26:32and have a cup of tea.
01:26:36This might come as a shock
01:26:48It did to me
01:26:51This is not a joke
01:26:56This is not a joke
01:27:00She's gone up in smoke
01:27:04And out,
01:27:06you tell your name
01:27:09Sit down, my dear
01:27:16And have a cup of tea
01:27:18And have a cup of tea
01:27:20Right or wrong
01:27:23Wrong
01:27:24I guess we'll never know
01:27:27I guess we'll never know
01:27:28There was no way
01:27:38She really had to go
01:27:42Truth or not
01:27:44She's gone up in smoke
01:27:46You see me
01:27:46I have a cup of tea
01:27:48I guess we'll never know
01:27:49You see me
01:27:50I guess we're
01:27:50I guess we'll never know
01:27:51You see me
01:27:52You see me
01:27:52You see me
01:27:52I guess we're
01:27:53I guess was
01:27:54You see me
01:27:55Vielen Dank.
